Opis:
The purpose of this study is to estimate the wave height at the front face of breakwater (Refracted breakwater and Straight breakwater), when dredging like the submarine pit is performed in the distant offshore from outer breakwater. The wave field of the problem is considered to be two dimensional planes and the configuration of the pit region is designated by a single horizontal long-rectangular system. The numerical approach uses the Green function based on the boundary integral approach. The results of the present numerical works are illustrated by applying the normal and inclined incidence. It is shown that in the case of normal incidence, the ratio of wave height reduction at the front face of both types of breakwaters is approximately more than 20% due to the effect of the submarine pit on the sea bed. Furthermore, regardless of the type of breakwater and the difference in incident wave angles, the ratio of wave height was shown to be reduced.

Opis:
Rectangular and circular pontoons are one of the most widely cross-sections used as floating breakwaters (FB). Although, there are several articles on comparison of behavior of rectangular and circular floating breakwaters however, the Authors try to show some details of difference between these two types where they have not been addressed before. To do so, transmission coefficient (Ct), as a measure of merit, of similar rectangular and circular sections is numerically compared. A computer code is developed for two-dimensional hydrodynamic analysis of floating breakwater based on diffraction theory in frequency domain in regular waves with any configuration of mooring line. The numerical method is the finite element method and validated by comparing with experimental and numerical results. Three types of rectangular sections are defined equivalent to circular section and a numerical comparison is made between 100 similar sections. The Ct versus wave frequency has been considered in detail and three new points called LMinF, LMaxF and LMaxCt are introduced. It has been shown that LMinF and LMaxF of circular section are greater and LMaxCt is much smaller than equivalent rectangular section. The LMaxCt of both sections are very dependent to new nondimensional parameter B/D (Breadth/Draft). Although, rectangular sections are more common for floating breakwater, however the results of this study show that possibility of using circular sections must be also considered.

Opis:
Ground liquefaction and deformation is one of the important causes that damage engineering structures. Chinese current code for seismic design of breakwater is based on the single-level seismic design method as well as code for port and water-way engineering. However, this code can not exactly reflect the seismic performance of breakwater structures which experience different seismic intensities. In this paper, the author used a finite difference software, namely, FLAC3D, to analyze the state and compute seismic responses of breakwater structure. The breakwater foundation’s pore pressure ratio and displacement due to different earthquake have been studied. And the result show that: Smaller earthquakes have little influence on serviceability of the foundation, and severe earthquakes can liquefy some parts of the foundation; In the latter case , obvious changes of pores and foundation displaces can be found. Particularly, when seismic peak acceleration reachs 0.2g, Liquefaction appears in the foundation and mainly concentrated in the upper right side of the structure. In addition, the survey of ultra-hole pressure and displacement values of sand layers of the breakwater, manifests when the ultra pore pressure near 1.0, displacement and overturning structure is relatively large, resulting in varying degrees of damage to the structure. This paper’s research can provide theoretical and designable reference for similar engineering structures.

Opis:
The Genaveh commercial port was placed on the agenda of the Iranian PMO (ports and maritime organization) to consider economic, commercial and residential development in Bushehr province and specifically in Genaveh city. In order to increase the water capacity of the port, it is necessary to build a new harbour basin for exploitation and commercial purposes at a depth of 5 to 6 meters by extending the existing jetties arms in front of the port. This research aims to investigate the harbour basin’s tranquillity for providing vessels with safe berthing. For this purpose, three modules, namely the flow model (FM), spectral wave (SW) and Boussinesq waves model (BW) from the MIKE 21 software package, were utilized. According to the monitoring data, which is provided by the Iranian PMO, the harbour basin’s tranquillity based on the prevailing wave directions was investigated. Based on the diffraction graph in the harbour basin, the results showed that, according to the percentage of permissible diffraction recommended by different valid regulations, there is a need to modify the geometry of the breakwater arms to increase the harbour basin’s tranquillity at the port in the development plan.
