Opis:
Fatigue is one of the main failure modes in marine structures, and it is caused by the strong cyclic characteristics of the loads they support. This failure mode is amplified in areas of high stress concentration, such as at the intersection of primary and secondary elements. In this paper, a two-phase study is proposed that compares numerical and experimental results using a digital image correlation technique. The described procedure establishes selection, design, and scantling criteria and provides recommendations for the design of the transverse structure using specimens with different geometries. These geometries correspond to different designs for the transverse primary structure that use a longitudinal secondary stiffener with variable thickness and longitudinal spacing to transverse in a dynamic and quasi-static regime. The stress state for this regime is calculated based on the biaxiality indication concept, which uses the fatigue phenomenon (safety factor and sensitivity curves) and fracture mechanics (parameters of the Paris crack propagation law, correlation value, and law of variation of the stress intensity factor).

Periodic stress with Cartesian components given in the form of Fourier series is consideŹred. To account for the mean stress effect the generalised Soderberg criterion for ductile materials is employed. An equivalent stress with synchronous components is defined by means of the equivalence conditions based on the average strain energy of distortion. The fatigue "safe-life" design criterion is formulated which covers the conditions of both static strength and fatigue safety and includes material constants that have simple physical inŹterpretation, can be determined by uniaxial tests, are related directly to the applied loads and can reflect material anisotropy.

Periodic stress with Cartesian components given in the form of Fourier series is considered. To account for the mean stress effect the modified Soderberg's formula is employed. An equivalent stress with synchronous components is defined. The design criterion for a finite fatigue life of metal elements is formulated. It covers the conditions of both static strength and fatigue safety in the high-cycle regime and includes material constants which have simple physical interpretation, can be determined by uniaxial tests, are related directly to the applied loads, and can reflect material anisotropy.

Random stress with Cartesian components of known statistical moments of their mean values and power spectral densities of stochastic stress processes is considered. To accoŹunt for the mean stress effect the generalised Soderberg criterion for ductile materials is employed. An equivalent stress with periodic (in the mean-square sense) components is defined by means of the equivalence conditions based on the average strain distortion energy. Opis:
After Vosikovsky (1975), the corrosion fatigue crack growth rate (CFCGR) characteristics have been divided into three regions. The region-III rates are very close to mechanical fatigue crack growth rates. CFCGR formulae, including the long-crack length effect (in region I only), the loading frequency effect (in region II only), and the saltwater temperature effect, have been proposed. It has been assumed that CFCGR is proportional to f –k, where f is the loading frequency and k is a constant. The averaged k-value for all steels of yield stress (YS) below 500 MPa, usually with ferrite-pearlite microstructures, is higher than that for YS > 500 MPa, usually with quenched and tempered microstructures. The temperature effect does not appear in region I below room temperature. In the remaining cases, that is, in region I for elevated temperatures and in region II for both low and elevated temperatures, the CFCGR increases with increasing temperature. Under a potential of –0.8 V, a long-crack-length effect, qualitatively similar to analogous effect for free corrosion conditions, appears.
