Opis:
The main objective of this study was to analyse the development of dry anaerobic digestion process of OFMSW in batch reactors under two temperature ranges, thermophilic (55°C) and mesophilic (35°C). The experimental results lead to the conclusion that the thermophilic range has a greater rate of hydrolysis and is therefore more effective to degrade wastes, shortening the overall operating time. For example, the hydrolytic step in the thermophilic (T) process lasted an average of 8 days versus 14 days in the mesophilic (M) range. The methanogenic phase lasted for 18 and 29 days in the T and M processes, respectively. The mesophilic range showed higher removal of the organic effluent but with greater uptime requirements. Moreover, the thermophilic range showed greater productivities than the mesophilic range, and the productivities were approximately doubled in terms of the produced biogas from a given amount of consumed organic matter.

Opis:
A laboratory experiment of two-stage mesophilic, low-dry mass, anaerobic digestion was carried out, focused on verifying the benefit of processing the biscuit meal EKPO-EB instead of triticale silage Agostino (GPS) and corn silage LG3266 in a regular batch for the agricultural biogas station in Pustějov. While anaerobic digestion of ensilages is largely difficult due to the content of lignocellulose, biscuit meal provides a high yield of biogas or methane, respectively, thanks to its high content of simple saccharides and lipids. When the original GPS (or the replacement EKPO-EB, respectively) represented 0.81% of weight of the daily input mixture dose for the first stage, the rise in volumetric methane production was 20% which is significant. The biscuit meal EKPO-EB decomposes almost completely in the first stage. Later, when the EKPO-EB represented 1.63% of weight of the daily input mixture dose for the first stage, the rise in volumetric methane production was 54% in the first stage and 16% in the second stage.

The Anaerobic Digestion Model no 1 (ADM1) has been implemented to simulate batch fermentation. The pH changes and inhibition of the fermentation have been studied. The model has been used to investigate the effects of substrate composition and concentration as well as the composition of the microorganism population on the course of fermentation. The overload of a reactor has been discussed.

Opis:
A laboratory physical model of a new type of anaerobic fermenter for “dry” and “wet” anaerobic digestion consisting of silage bags was designed. In the model, the experiment based on high-solids discontinuous anaerobic co-fermentation of agricultural substrates was carried out. It was verified that a horizontal fermenter constructed from silage bags is a suitable type of equipment for the production of biogas. The biogas production peaked at 4th day and was completed by 18th day. Within 18 days of discontinuous high-solids process (18.5-20.0 wt. %TS) the intensity of biogas production reached 1.18 mN3. m-3 . d-1, or 0.0012 mN3. kg-1 . d-1, and the specific methane production 0.01 mN3. kg-1, or 0.07 mN3. kgVS-1. After conversion of the modeling process to a semi-continuous low-solids mode (3.5-5. 5 wt. %TS) during the daily dosage of 87 wt % mixture of biscuit meal EKPO-EB with 13 wt % CaO, the intensity of biogas production reached the value 2.42 mN3 . m-3 . d-1, or 0.0105 mN3 . kg-1 . d-1. The fermentation bag appears to be a more efficient device in the semi-continuous “low-solids” Laboratory model: “(2 inches)”.

Opis:
The paper summarizes the results from twenty model tests of continuous one-stage mesophilic anaerobic co-digestion of cattle slurry (90 wt. %) and various biowastes (10 wt. %). Digestion was conducted in 0.06 m3 reactors with hydraulic retention times ranging from 60 to 98 days during the research period 2007-2010. Methane production intensity and specific methane production are discussed. The highest methane production intensity (0.85 mN3.m-3.d-1) was from a mixture of 63 wt. % of total solids from biscuit meal EKPO - EB and from 37 wt. % of total solids from cattle slurry. The highest specific methane production from 1 kg of added organic compounds (0.67 mN3.kgVSp-1) was given by a mixture containing 61 wt. % of total solids using spring barley Aksamit (milled grain) and 39 wt. % of total solids from cattle slurry. The highest substrate-specific methane production (0.92 mN3.kgVSp-1) was from milled grains of winter rye Aventino.
