Opis:
The selective hydrogenation of cinnamaldehyde has been studied using palladium catalysts based on epoxy resin cured with ionic liquids. Characterization of palladium catalysts has involved the following methods: IR spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), AAS spectroscopy and time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (TOF-SIMS). The investigated catalysts showed high stability and good recycling efficiency what makes them useful for a prolonged use. The factors influencing the selectivity of the supported catalysts were discussed.

Opis:
The adsorption of pentafl uorobenzene on nine ionic liquid-based silicas was investigated using solid phase extraction. The effects of several variables such as the type of ionic liquid groups, adsorption time, temperatures and water ratio in the solution system were experimentally evaluated. The imidazole-chloride ionic liquid group based silica exhibited the highest adsorption efficiency under the optimized conditions of 5 min adsorption at 30°C in water/methanol (30:70, vol%) solution. In addition, the effects of pH, as well as type and concentrations of chloride salts were investigated. At pH values other than neutral and high salt concentration, the adsorption efficiency was reduced. Finally, the relative standard deviation of less than 5.8% over a 5-day period showed a high precision for the nine tested sorbents.

Opis:
Six new chiral pyrolidinium salts with chiral substituent at quaternary nitrogen atom were synthesized with high overall yields from (-)-menthol as cheap chiral precursor and were identified by NMR and HRMS spectroscopy. It was shown that anion type had the effect on chemical shift of protons adjacent to quaternary nitrogen atom and physical properties of these salts. Salts with NTf2  or NPf2  were in a liquid state at room temperature and characterized with the highest thermal stability among others. Furthermore, chiral ionic liquid with NTf2  anion was used as solvent in Diels-Alder reaction and gave higher yield and stereoselectivity than in ionic liquids with achiral cations. Synthesized chiral salts have the potential as chiral solvents in synthesis and auxiliaries in analytical methods to improve chiral recognition.

Opis:
This work reports on the use of the amino acid ionic liquids (AAILs) which have been used as catalysts in Knoevenagel condensation of various aldehydes with malononitrile. For research we use tetrabutylammonium ionic liquids based on eight natural amino acids. The reaction was carried out in an aqueous medium. Using water as solvent provided efficient and simple method of isolation of pure product with high yield. Moreover, amino acid ionic liquid dissolved in water could be reused many times without any loss of its catalytic activity. The influence of the anion was studied. Moreover the effect of technological parameters such as: the temperature, the catalyst content, and the reaction time on yield of reaction were investigated.

Opis:
The presence of naphthenic acids (NAs) in crude oil is the major cause of corrosion in the refineries and its processing equipment. The goal of this study is to reduce the total acid number (TAN) of NAs by treating them with subcritical methanol in the presence of acidic ionic liquid (AIL) catalysts. Experiments were carried out in an autoclave batch reactor and the effect of different reaction parameters was investigated. It was observed that TAN reduction was positively dependent on the temperature and concentration of the AIL whereas excess of methanol has a negative effect. Approximately 90% TAN reduction was achieved under the optimized reaction conditions using [BMIM]HSO4  as catalyst. It was also perceived from the experimental results that the AILs with longer alkyl chain exhibited higher catalytic activity. The activity and stability of AIL showed that they can be promising catalyst to esterify NAs under subcritical methanol.

Acidic ionic liquids based on trihexyltetradecylphosphonium chloride . P 6.6.6.14 Cl and six different metal chlorides (YCl 3 , YbCl 3 , MgCl 2 , ZnCl 2 , CuCl 2 , InCl 3 ) were prepared. The molar fraction of metal chloride (X MClx ) used for the formation of acidic ionic liquids with P 6.6.6.14 Cl was changed in the range from 0.3 to 0.5. The high catalytic activity in the Diels-Alder reaction of cyclopentadiene and various ż,s-unsaturated carbonyl compounds showed ionic liquids at X MClx.0.4. In general, the highest product yields and endo:exo ratios were achieved in the acidic ionic liquids formed from MgCl 2 , YCl 3 and YbCl 3 . Thermogravimetric analysis suggested that the prepared ionic liquids were thermally stable up to nearly 400‹C. Additionally, they could be reused with only little loss of catalytic activity after the 4th recycle.

Extraction of several chloro compounds from water has been examined. As the extracting liquid the 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate [BMIM][PF6], which is common hydrophobic ionic liquid, was used. Additionally, extraction of selected chlorinated compounds from tert-butylmethylether (MTBE) was investigated. The obtained results show the usefulness of [BMIM][PF6] to remove the organic impurities from water, particularly at the concentration range inappropriate for biological purification plants.

A comparative study of Diels-Alder reaction between cyclopentadiene and dimethyl maleate in catalytic system is reported. The catalytic system was formed from ionic liquid which was made of N-hexylpyridinium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide and magnesium trifluoromethanesulfonate. The yields, TONs, TOFs and endo:exo ratios were calculated. The optimal catalyst concentration was found in order to obtain the mixture of endo, exo isomers with the highest yields. Moreover recycling of the catalytic system consisting of Mg(OTf)2 (2 mol%) and ionic liquid was performed. The distillation was noticed to be a better product removal method than extraction by organic solvent, taking into consideration both the TON and TOF values.

Opis:
The extraction of palladium(II) from hydrochloric acid solutions of various concentrations in the presence of different amounts of sodium chloride with phosphonium ionic liquid CyphosŽIL101 in toluene was investigated. The extraction of Pd(II) is very effective. The percentage extraction of Pd(II) from 0.1 mol dm-3 HCl solution amounts to 97% with CyphosŽIL101. Both the increase in HCl concentration and the presence of NaCl have a negative influence on the extraction. The extent of extraction from 0.1 mol dm-3 HCl solution in the presence of 0.5 mol dm-3 NaCl is about 80% and from 3 mol dm-3 HCl is lower and amounts to 56%. The extraction of Pd(II) from aqueous 0.1 mol dm-3 HCl and from 0.1 mol dm-3 HCl in the presence of 0.5 mol dm-3 NaCl with this phosphonium ionic liquid is rapid and the equilibrium is achieved after 1 - 2 minutes. The extraction of Pd(II) from aqueous 3 mol dm -3 HCl is slower and the equilibrium is achieved after 5 - 6 minutes.

Opis:
The application of the three-phase fluidization technology in wastewater treatment and other biochemical processes has been regularly addressed in the past decades. For the design and development of the threephase fluidized bed reactors, knowledge of the hydrodynamic parameter such as gas holdup is essential and hence in this paper an attempt has been made to study the effect of fundamental and operating variables on gas holdup. On the basis of the experimental results, a unified correlation has been developed to predict gas holdup in the fluidized bed using the Newtonian and the non-Newtonian liquids. The experimental results showed good agreement with those predicted according to the developed correlation.
