Opis:
The growing demand for the reduction of anthropogenic CO2 emissions has stimulated the development of CO2 capture methods. One of the best capture methods comprises the calcium looping process, which incorporates calcium-based sorbents during the calcination and carbonation cycles. Czatkowice limestone may be considered to be a prospective chemical sorbent for the calcium looping process because of its formation characteristics. This paper addresses the thermogravimetric studies conducted under varying conditions of temperature and various concentrations of CO2 during the carbonation cycles. Moreover, a kinetic analysis of the carbonation stage was performed for the calcined sample at varying temperatures. The kinetic parameters for calcination and diffusion were determined. In addition, there was an increase in the concentration of CO2 with an increased carbonation conversion. The research results demonstrate that in further cycles of carbonation/calcination, the calcium sorbent reaches a higher rate of carbonation conversion with increased levels of CO2

Opis:
A new CaCO3-SiO2 composite with core-shell structure was successfully prepared by mechano-chemistry method (MCM). SEM and FTIR indicated that SiO2 particles were homogeneously immobilized on the surface of CaCO3. The well dispersion of this CaCO3-SiO2 composite into silicone rubber can not only reduce the usage amount of SiO2, but also improve the mechanical properties of silicone rubber. By the calculation, the theoretical numbers of the SiO2 particles is about 10 times as large as that of CaCO3 particles in the CaCO3-SiO2 composite. Mixing CaCO3-SiO2 composite in silicone rubber can enhance the breaking strength of the silicone rubber about 18% as high as that when mixing the pure SiO2. And the elongation at break is about 14% less than that of adding the pure SiO2 sample.

Opis:
Many studies have been carried out in the direction of improvement of the effectiveness of commonly utilized phosphate corrosion inhibitors. For this purpose various types of modifications are realized, e.g. introduction of different cations to the pigment composition or replacement of phosphate anions with others. In the presented work, anticorrosive pigments containing calcium hydrogen phosphate, and/or calcium hydroxyphosphate, and calcium molybdate were obtained. The phase and chemical composition and the oil absorption number of those materials were determined. The anticorrosive properties were investigated by an electrochemical noise method. The obtained results were compared with previously published studies concerning pigments containing (NH4)3Al2(PO4)3 and/or AlPO4, and CaMoO4. It was found that the pigment containing only calcium molybdate(VI) is not an effective corrosion inhibitor. However, the pigments comprising a mixture of CaHPO4 and CaMoO4 exhibited good anticorrosive properties and they were characterized by higher effectiveness in the corrosion protection than compared materials.

In this work the La2O3/CeO2 (33 mol % of La) and CaO/CeO2 (33 mol % of Ca) catalysts were prepared by the impregnation method and characterized by XRD and CO2-TPD. The catalytic properties of the catalysts were tested in the OCM process at 1073 K using the methane/oxygen mixture of the mole ratio 3.7 or 2.5 additionally containing CO2 and helium balance. It was found that in the presence of both catalysts an addition of CO2 enhances the selectivity to the ethylene and ethane and it does not have Any negative infl uence on methane conversion. In the case of the CaO/CeO2 catalyst the promoting effect of CO2 was the highest. When the partial pressure of CO2 equals to 39 kPa the increase in selectivity from 36 to 41% was noted while the conversion of methane equal to 19.4-19.7 %.

Sorption studies were carried out to investigate removal of 2.4-dichlorophenol (2.4-DCP) from aqueous solution in a fluidized bed by two types of adsorbent mixtures: BC (Bamboo char plus Calcium sulphate), and HBC (Hydroxyapatite plus Bamboo char plus Calcium sulphate); both manufactured in ball shape. The main material bamboo char was characterized by FTIR, DTA and SEM. The adsorption experiments were conducted in a fluidized bed circulation column. Adsorption, isotherms and kinetic studies were established under 180 min operating process time, at differentinitial 2.4-DCP solution concentrations ranging from 5–10 mg/L, and at different flow rates ranging from 0.25–0.75 L/min. The data obtained fitted well for both the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models; indicating favorable condition of monolayer adsorption. The kinetics of both adsorbents complies with the pseudo second-order kinetic model. BC was proven a new effective composite and low cost adsorbent which can be applied in the field of wastewater treatment, and it can also play an important role in industry water treatment.

The composite containing nanosilver uniformly deposited on matrix composed of CaHPO4  x 2H2 O (brushite, ca 89 mass %), CaHPO4  (monteonite, ca 9.5 mass%), and Ag3 PO4  (0.5 mas%) was obtained by addition of calcium nitrate and silver nitrate aqueous solution at 30:1 Ca:Ag molar ratio into excess of (NH4 )2 PO4  solution at pH 5.0 – 5.5. The isolated solid was characterized by STEM, XRD, and LDI mass spectrometry. It has been found that nanosilver was uniformly distributed within composite as <10 nm diameter sized nanoparticles. Determination of silver by AAS showed that 60% of silver is present as Ag(0) nanoparticles, the present as matrix Ag3 PO4  as identified by XRD method. The composite showed strong growth inhibition in E. coli and P. aeruginosa strains, and moderate towards S. aureus. The C. albicans cells were the most resistant to the tested material, although still composite was moderately cytostatic for the yeast.

Utilization of brewery wastes is one of the solutions for the production of the fodder supplements containing biogenic nutrients. The condition of such application is to meet the requirements included in the regulations regarding animal feeding, particularly removing a bitter taste. The aim of the performed investigations was the removal of bitter acids from the post-extraction hop waste using the calcium oxide addition. For the examination hop wastes obtained as a by-product from the CO2 plant extraction in supercritical conditions, were applied. Physicochemical properties of the waste samples collected for the investigations were determined by applying the available standard analytical techniques. The analyses of the determination of bitter acids were carried out by the high performance liquid chromatography method. During the experiments very good effects of bitter acids removal from hop wastes, were obtained by using CaO suspensions in water. The investigations on the influence of the CaO concentration in suspension on the efficiency of bitter acids removal indicate the possibility of applying suspensions by 2 wt% for this purpose.

In this work, a modified random pore model was developed to study the kinetics of the carbonation reaction of CaO. Pore size distributions of the CaO pellets were measured by nitrogen adsorption and mercury porosimetry methods. The experiments were carried out in a thermogravimeter at different isothermal temperatures and CO2 partial pressures. A fractional concentration dependency function showed the best accuracy for predicting the intrinsic rate of reaction. The activation energy was determined as 11 kcal/mole between 550–700°C. The effect of product layer formation was also taken into account by using the variable product layer diffusivity. Also, the model was successfully predicted the natural lime carbonation reaction data extracted from the literature.

Anticorrosive epoxy and polyurethane coatings were compounded using zinc-free nanosized phosphates of strontium (SP) or strontium and aluminum (SAP). For comparison, a nanosized calcium aluminum ammonium phosphate (CAP) and a microsized zinc phosphate (ZP) were tested. Results of salts spray and cyclic corrosion tests revealed better anticorrosive properties of the SAP-based coatings in relation to the samples with the other Zn-free fillers or ZP. Electrochemical noise tests of uncoated steel in aqueous suspensions of the phosphates exhibited similar corrosion inhibition efficiency of the Sr-based phosphates and ZP, and worse anticorrosive features of CAP. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy did not show better protective properties of ZP-based coatings than the samples with the Zn-free fillers.

Calcium and zinc salts of dimer fatty acids (DFA-Ca and DFA-Zn) were synthesized using direct neutralization and metathesis technologies, respectively. The adduct of maleic anhydride and methyl eleostearate (MAME) was also converted to the corresponding zinc soap (C22TA-Zn) and calcium soap (C22TA-Ca) by the two different synthetic routes. Mixed Ca/Zn salts between DFA-Ca and DFA-Zn, and between C22TA-Zn and C22TA-Ca were used as thermal stabilizers for poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC). The PVC thermal stability was determined using Congo red test, discoloration test, torque rheological analysis and TGA. Dynamic mechanical properties were also tested. Results indicated that the DFA-Ca/DFA-Zn thermal stabilizer from direct neutralization technology was found to be superior to that of the metathesis product. The C22TA-Ca/C22TA-Zn thermal stabilizer from direct neutralization method had overall superior thermal stability, and displayed modulus and glass transition comparable to that of metathesis product. Direct neutralization method was more excellent and convenient than metathesis technology.

A method for the measurement of urea conversion into the adduct form, which is based on the difference in solubility of free urea and the adduct bound urea CaSO4ź4CO(NH2)2 in n-butanol, was developed. Mixing the reagents in the presence of physical water produced the best results. High urea conversion into the adduct form, over 85%, in the prepared samples indicates that this method can be successfully used to get CaSO4ź4CO(NH2)2 adduct.

The results of a research related to the physico – chemical properties of the mixture of bone – waste and their ingredients have been presented. The mixtures was made up from waste: bovine bones, pork bones, bone sludge and bone meal. The content of the individual waste in the mixtures was selected on the basis of the heat of the combustion of the mixture and the amount of the waste produced in a meat processing plant. The heat of the combustion has been determined by the calorimeter, the content of phosphorus by spectrophotometric method, calcium by titration and phase composition by X – ray diffraction. The investigations confirmed that pork bones have the highest heat of the combustion 17 MJ/kg because of a big amount of fats. The analyzed waste has contained on average 16.5 wt % phosphorus and above 30 wt % calcium. X – ray diffraction method has proved that in bone waste one phase – hydroxyapatite occurs.

A single-factor field experiment was carried out at the Cultivar Evaluation Station in Szczecin-Dąbie in 2008-2010. In the experiment, the compost produced with municipal sewage sludge by the GWDA method was used and high-calcium brown coal ash at a dose corresponding. A test plant was Virginia fanpetals (Sida hermaphodrita Rusby). The obtained results show that Virginia fanpetals biomass contained on average the most nitrogen (3.72 gźkg-1 d.m.), calcium (6.03 gźkg-1 d.m.) and sulphur (1.24 gźkg-1 d.m.) in 2008, while the most potassium (4.39 gźkg-1 d.m.) in 2010. Significantly more phosphorus, magnesium and sulphur was contained by Virginia fanpetals biomass from the objects where municipal sewage sludge compost had been applied without and with addition of high-calcium brown coal ash when compared to calcium carbonate or high-calcium brown coal ash being introduced into soil at the beginning of study. Differences in average nitrogen, potassium and calcium contents in the test plant biomass from particular fertilisation objects were not significant. The macroelements uptake by Virginia fanpetals biomass depended on the yield size and the content of chemical elements under discussion in it.
