The aim of this study was to analyse the steam gasification process of ‘Janina’ coal with and without Na-, K- and Ca-catalysts. The catalysts were physically mixed with the coal due to the simplicity of this method, short time of execution and certainty that the amount of catalyst is exactly as the adopted one. The isothermal measurements were performed at 800, 900 and 950°C and a pressure of 1 MPa using thermovolumetric method. The obtained results enabled assessment of the effect of analysed catalysts on the process at various temperatures by determination of: i) carbon conversion degree; ii) yield and composition of the resulting gas; and iii) kinetics of formation reactions of main gas components – CO and H2. The addition of catalysts, as well as an increase in operating temperature, had a positive effect on the coal gasification process – reactions rates increased, and the process time was reduced.

Opis:
The paper indicates coal mines as the source of permanent emission of low-concentrated gases, which have increased the greenhouse effect. This paper proposes the catalytic oxidation of methane as the solution to the problem of methane utilization when its concentration in the air is insufficient for flame combustion. The studies which have been conducted for many years enabled finding the active oxide and metallic catalytic systems for the reaction of methane oxidation. For the utilization of gases with low-concentrated methane, using the low-temperature catalysts, especially palladium catalysts, seems to he economically well-justified. Depending on technological solutions it can be considered as the method for methane utilization or as an environmentally friendly way for the generation of electric and thermal energy.

In this work, the application of the thiol-functionalized epoxy resin encapsulated on magnetic core as supports for palladium catalysts is reported. The study focuses on obtaining of heterogeneous catalysts which can be separated by magnetic field. Palladium complex catalyst [PdCl2(PhCN)2] has been heterogenized by anchoring to these supports via ligand exchange reaction. The characterization of polymeric supports and heterogenized palladium catalysts has involved research methods like time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (TOF-SIMS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and nitrogen BET surface area measurements. The activity and stability during long-term use of the investigated catalytic systems were tested in a Heck and hydrogenation reaction. The influence of the type of thiols used as epoxy hardeners and the morphology of the supports on the catalytic properties of epoxy-supported palladium catalysts was discussed.

The synthesis methods of the following titanium-silicalite catalysts: TS-1, Ti-Beta and Ti-MWW were presented. The results of the analyses of the catalysts by XRD, SEM and IR, UV-vis methods were also shown. A brief description of the catalytic performances of these catalysts in the oxidation process of olefins, alkenes, alcohols and aromatic compounds was presented.

Opis:
Structural and textural properties of nickel-molybdenum catalysts supported on four various type of zeolites of different chemical composition and porous structure have been studied by the methods of IR, XRD and the low-temperature sorption of nitrogen. The catalysts have been obtained by the two-stage impregnation of the supports with the solutions of nickel and molybdenum salts by the method of incipient wetness. The catalysts have been shown to preserve the structure characteristic of the appropriate zeolite supports.

Opis:
Transition metal catalysts (mainly: iron, cobalt and nickel) on various supports are successfully used in a largescale production of carbon nanotubes (CNTs), but after the synthesis it is necessary to perform very aggressive purification treatments that cause damages of CNTs and are not always effective. In this work a preparation of unsupported catalysts and their application to the multi-walled carbon nanotubes synthesis is presented. Iron, cobalt and bimetallic iron-cobalt catalysts were obtained by co-precipitation of iron and cobalt ions followed by solid state reactions. Although metal particles were not supported on the hard-to-reduce oxides, these catalysts showed nanometric dimensions. The catalysts were used for the growth of multi-walled carbon nanotubes by the chemical vapor deposition method. The syntheses were conducted under ethylene - argon atmosphere at 700°C. The obtained catalysts and carbon materials after the synthesis were characterized using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction method (XRD), Raman spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis (TG). The effect of the kind of catalyst on the properties of the obtained carbon material has been described.

Opis:
A study on the synthesis of esters of fatty acids of natural origin (oleic acid from rapeseed oil) and branched synthetic isostearic acid with commercially available alcohols C8-C9 i.e. 2-ethylhexanol (2-EH) and 3,5,5-trimethylhexanol (TMH) in the presence of selected heterogeneous catalysts containing active sulfonic groups has been made. The catalysts were obtained using ready available amorphous silicas with different textural characteristics. The influence of catalyst porosity on the catalytic properties in the esterification of fatty acids has been investigated. The effect of the synthesis temperature has also been studied. The results were compared with the results of esterification with the use of acidic ion exchange resins. It was shown that catalysts obtained on the basis of amorphous silicas are good and reusable catalysts for the esterification of fatty acids with higher alcohols.

Opis:
Ni-Al2O3 catalysts prepared by solution combustion method for syngas methanation were enhanced by employing various heating rate and different solvent. The catalytic properties were tested in syngas methanation. The result indicates that both of heating rate and solvent remarkably affect Ni particle size, which is a key factor to the catalytic activity of Ni-Al2O3 catalysts for syngas methanation. Moreover, the relationship between Ni particle size and the production rate of methane per unit mass was correlated. The optimal Ni-Al2O3 catalyst prepared in ethanol at 2°C/min, achieves a maximum production rate of methane at the mean size of 20.8 nm.

Opis:
The activity of Pd/Al2O3 catalysts increases when Pd content is increased from 1% to 2%. Among these catalysts, 2%Pd/Al2O3 shows the highest methane combustion activity. In a reduced form, the catalyst displays a higher activity than in the oxidized form. 24-hour ageing at 600oC to 800oC lowers the catalytic activity of 2%Pd/Al2O3 due to Pd crystallite sintering. After 110-hour oxidation of 1% methane in air over 2%Pd/Al2O3, conversion decreases from 100% to 88%. Upon reduction with hydrogen (performed after 24-hour ageing at 700oC and 110-hour methane oxidation), the 2%Pd/Al2O3 catalyst regains its initial activity. The high activity of Pd catalysts renders them suitable for methane removal from coal mine ventilation air at high gas fl ow velocities and temperatures lower than 600oC.

The results of the research studies concerning the reaction rate of SO2 oxidation on the vanadium catalysts have been described. A carrier of the active phase - silica has been regenerated from spent vanadium mass by leaching with H2SO4 solution. The dependence of the oxidation reaction rate on the method of treating a catalyst carrier as well as the composition of an active phase of the new catalyst systems has been also presented.

Opis:
Coke deposit is produced from ethylene on the surface of the platinum and platinum-tin catalysts supported on two various AI2O3, SiO2 and SiO2-Al2O3. The coke amount and the structure depend on the type and the amount of the components introduced onto the catalyst support and on the type of the support. It has been found that the surface area of the support has no significant effect on the type of species in the coke deposit. The analysis of the FT-IR spectra has shown the presence of different species on the surface of the catalysts, including carboxyl groups, pseudo-graphite (polyaromatic) structures, polyphenylene groups, acetyl groups, carbonyl groups of acetone and formate type, enol species.

In this work, catalytic activity and stability of Cu/Y5 and Cu/ZSM5 zeolites in phenol oxidation with hydrogen peroxide were examined. The catalyst samples were prepared by the ion exchange method of the protonic form of commercial zeolites. The catalysts were characterized by the powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), AAS, while the adsorption techniques were used to measure the specific surface area. The thermal programmed desorption of NH3 (NH3-TPD) was used for measuring the total number of acid sites formed on the surface of zeolites. Catalytic performance of the prepared samples was monitored in terms of phenol, hydrogen peroxide and total organic carbon (TOC) conversion, by-product distribution and a degree of copper leached into the aqueous solution. It was found that the activity of Cu/Y5 catalyst was generally higher than that of Cu/ZSM5 and that unlike Cu/ZSM5, Cu/Y5 catalyzed phenol oxidation more completely.

This work presents the studies on the oxidation of limonene with hydrogen peroxide and tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) in the presence of : TS-2, Ti-Beta, Ti-MCM-41 and Ti-MWW catalysts, at the autogenic pressure and atmospheric pressure. The examination were performed at the following conditions: the temperature of 140°C (studies in the autoclave) and 80°C (studies in glass reactor), the molar ratio of limonene/oxidant (H2O2 or WNTB) = 1:1, the methanol concentration 80 wt%, the catalyst content 3 wt%, the reaction time 3 h and the intensity of stirring 500 rpm. The analysis of the results showed that in process not only 1,2-epoxylimonene was formed but also: 1,2-epoxylimonene diol, carveol, carvone and perillyl alcohol but for 1,2-epoxylimonene obtaining the better method was the method at the autogenic pressure and in the presence of TBHP.

The selective hydrogenation of cinnamaldehyde has been studied using palladium catalysts based on epoxy resin cured with ionic liquids. Characterization of palladium catalysts has involved the following methods: IR spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), AAS spectroscopy and time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (TOF-SIMS). The investigated catalysts showed high stability and good recycling efficiency what makes them useful for a prolonged use. The factors influencing the selectivity of the supported catalysts were discussed.

Opis:
Nitrogen oxide conversion to nitrogen over Pt/Al2O3, Pd/Al2O3, Rh/Al2O3 catalysts was investigated. The results of the catalytic activity investigations, with the iso-x method, showed that NO reduction by methane occurs at a reasonable rate at the temperature range 200-500°C. Alumina-supported Pd, Pt and Rh catalysts have been compared for the selective reduction of NO to N2. All the catalysts showed good activity in NO reduction by methane, giving around 80 - 90% N2 production. At moderate temperatures Pt is the most active catalyst for the removal of NO.
