Opis:
The article aims to analyze the identity transformations and the integration processes of immigrant’s children in Barcelona. It is based on the empirical data collected during the field research in 2012 and 2013. The capital of Catalonia is the place of coexistence of Catalonian and Spanish influences, mixed up with other cultural elements coming from foreign immigrants communities. Therefore, it is an interesting area of formation of different types of polyvalent identities. The growing presence of descendants of immigrants leads to transformations of the idea of “being Catalan”. New Catalans, consequently changing the socio-cultural environment of the region, are concurrently influenced both by the communities (familiar, religious, national ones) of their parents country of origin and by the receiving society. This dualism may cause crisis, insecurity and the feeling of deprivation. Yet, the hybrid identity may also stimulate creativity and function as incentive to overcome the traditional boundaries set by national culture. It has been shown in the article, through the examples of immigrants’ children involved in social, educational, journalistic or cultural activities.

Opis:
The dispute over whether there exists a Silesian nation, Silesian nationality or whether Silesians are an ethnic group, has flared up in Poland, but mainly in the Silesian Voivodeship, on a surprisingly large scale. This rather fresh controversy, growing since the turn of the 80s and 90s of the last century, i.e. since the beginning of the transformation processes in Poland, takes place in public discussions and in the media, and its finale – in the courts. Some believe that the basis is the Silesians’ disappointment with the way the region has been transformed, through a destructive rather than creative restructuring, through closure of coal mines and steel mills, all of which has resulted in citizens’ impoverishment, in sudden outbreak of unemployment, and in the lack of any program or strategy for the region. The 1990s saw the appearance of an idea of recognizing the Silesian national distinctiveness, founded on a wave of renaissance of Silesian cultural identity. Loud became demands of reviving the idea of autonomy of the Silesian province, and the fight for recognition of Silesian nationality as a different social and political entity. The Silesians, convinced of the marginalization of indigenous people as well as of injustices and wrongs inflicted by the Polish authorities after World War II, in various ways, including the political and judicial ones, are attempting to gain the status of a national minority or, as in recent times, an ethnic one. It is hard not to agree with the thesis that these efforts fit in with the idea of multiculturalism, which – being an indicator of the level of democratization of all spheres of life – has accelerated the revival of regional identity in a large part of the population of Silesia and provided them with the ideological basis to articulate their needs, expectations and aspirations.

The aim of the article is to confront the theory of cultural capital and social capital from the social reality in the border regions of the three countries: Poland, Hungary and Ukraine, with particular emphasis on the role played by young people in these societies. This confrontation will include both a theoretical reflection, focusing on the problem of the application of the theory of cultural and social capital to describe societies of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, and also the results of empirical studies carried out among high school students in Poland, Hungary and Ukraine. The specific objective of the article is to analyze the concept of cultural capital and social capital as a factor of identity and social position and political youth Poland, Hungary and Ukraine, for example, the youngest generation.

Opis:
The dynamics of changes in the modern world require continuous updating of analyses concerning the nature of social relations and the processes occurring therein. This paper constitutes an attempt to outline analysis of processes occurring in the family system under variable social conditions. One modern challenge researchers face is conducting research (including research of the family system) under inter- and multi-cultural conditions. This necessitates accounting for the following variables over the course of research: nature of the location where entities function, their cultural, ethnic, religious or national diversity, the fact of participation in migration phenomena, globalization trends and multiple social identities of social units or groups. The author has made both the theoretical background and specific examples of dilemmas that the author encounters in counseling practice the core of analysis, in the context of undertaken diagnostic and therapeutic measures. The situation of a mixed couple with high cultural, ethnic, religious or national diversity, dilemmas related to the dual identity of children from mixed married couples, preservation of the family system participating in migratory processes (including return migration) as well as work with immigrant families seem to be good exemplifications of the inter-cultural dilemmas encountered in the context of counseling. This is intended to increase awareness of increasingly common problems in society and social units, and simultaneously to create conditions for multi-cultural societies accounting for globalization processes that can currently be observed.

Opis:
Florian Znaniecki – a representative of humanistic sociology – claims in his works that a nation is a product of civilization, a cultural group, organized on the principle of leadership. As a spiritual community it can exist independently of the territory and state organization, it is historically variable, its existence is determined by culture that encompasses the entire work of a nation, all material- technical, intellectual, artistic and aesthetic products as well as a language and other symbols as means of communication, all patterns of behaviour and actions, values and ideals (freedom, justice, honor) and standards arising from them. National culture, customs, religious worship, beliefs and ideals of national historical tradition are shared values and national groups are potentially available to all members of the group. “The principle of separateness” of a nation as a cultural group is shared culture. In democratic conditions of the Third Republic of Poland circumstances for the functioning and development of various types of societies based on the criteria of identity were created. In accordance with F. Znaniecki’s intention, national and ethnic groups can develop national culture or pursue shared cultural ideals. The article is an attempt to answer the question: "To what extent are the ideas of F. Znaniecki’s national society implemented in the Third Republic of Poland?" Referring to the literature, the author presents the ideas of F. Znaniecki’s national society, selected institutions and national organizations operating in the Third Republic of Poland.
