Opis:
The aim of the study was to show epistatic effects of genes responsible for inheritance of important morphological traits in winter rye populations. Furthermore, the thesis that the environment plays very important role in epistatic effects in winter rye populations was verified. The study showed very significant epistasis for inheritance of the important yield components in 1985-1999 years. It was confirmed that epistasis increased or reduced values of the traits under study. It was also showed that epistasis depended on investigated varieties and environments (year of the study). The method described by Comstock and Robinson (1952), and Kearsey and Jinks (1968) consisting in crossing of selected populations with three different testers: T1 (SMH-49), T2 (SMH-75) and T3 (hybrid T1 × T2) was used. The obtained F1 hybrids were sown in 3-replications every year (1985-1999). The epistatic effects were estimated according to formula; Ji = L1i + L2i – 2L3i, where Ji is the epistatic effects of i-th variety, L1i, L2i, 2L3i are the mean values of characters for the hybrids obtained from the crossing between i-th variety and tester. The study concerned following traits: plant height, heading date, length of ear and uppermost internode of ear, grain yield per ear, grain number per ear, 1000-grain yield, grain yield per plot, test weight, falling number, protein content, resistance to brown rust and powdery mildew. Relationships between epistatic effects for selected traits and precipitation and temperature coefficient were evaluated according to Spearman coefficient of correlation.

Opis:
Combining ability of the varieties and strains of the naked-grain oat  was evaluated on the basis of the following traits: number of days to first heading, plant height and grain yield per plot. Six hundred and thirty nine strains of naked-grain oats were included involving F4-F8 generations over 5 years. Those strains were the progeny of 25 crossbreeding combinations of 9 testers with 13 varieties. The analysis of the variance in a hierarchic scheme showed highly significant values of the mean squares for years, testers, varieties and combinations for all the traits. The values of combining ability for testers, varieties and combinations of naked-grain oat were calculated. The results enabled to distinguish a group of naked-grain oat varieties, which effectively transferred the desirable traits to progeny: heading, shorter straw and high yield. The promising combinations for early heading were: Konradin × (Fl. nova × Swan mutant), and Caesar × (Płatek × Swan mutant), and for a higher grain yield Adam × Maro.

Opis:
The aim of this study was to evaluate the yield variability of spring barley families grown at the Nagradowice Plant Breeding Station of Poznan Plant Breeding against other families studied in years 2017‒2018 in Team Breeding Experiments. Research material included 250 spring barley families cultivated in 2017 and 2018 in 6 locations. Selection of spring barley families for preliminary experiments was based on synthesis of results obtained in inter-plant experiments established in 2016 and 2017 in 5 locations. Combined (due to location) analysis of variance for experimental data was performed for each year and each series of experiments separately. Best Weighted Linear Unbiased Estimators (BWLUE) for the effects of individual sources of variation were included in ANOVA model. Significant effect of location on mean yield was observed in each research year and each series of experiments. Crucial differences were also observed between tested varieties and breeding lines. Moreover, significant interaction between locations and varieties or breeding families was also observed. Self-organising map (SOM) was applied to develop multivariable characteristic of tested families and cultivars of spring barley. Analyses results, i.e. ranking of BWLUE effects as well as SOM segmentation revealed seven breading lines from Breeding Station Nagradowice, which may be considered for further breeding process.
