Opis:
Talc has many applications in various branches of industry. This material is an inert one with a naturally hydrophobic surface. Talc agglomeration is within the wide interest of pharmaceutical industry. Oil agglomeration experiments of talc were carried out to find out and assess the significance of experimental factors. Central composite design (CCD) was used to estimate the importance and interrelation of the agglomeration process parameters. Four experimental factors have been evaluated, i.e. concentration of cationic surfactant and oil, agitation intensity as well as time of the process. The median size of agglomerates (D50) and the polydispersity span (PDI) were used as the process responses. Logarithmic transformations of the responses provide better description of the model, than untransformed responses, with the reduced cubic model for D50 and quadratic model for PDI. This was supported by the Box-Cox plots. It was shown that there were many statistically important factors, including the concentration of cationic surfactant and stirring rate for D50, concentration of oil and stirring rate for PDI, as well as various interactions, up to third order for D50. Optimal conditions for minimum values of reagent amounts as well as mixing time and intensity for the maximum size of agglomerates but of rather narrow size distribution were found.

Opis:
In this study conditions for flotation of low rank coal (lignite of Tuncbilek, Turkey) were investigated in detail. The experiments were performed using the 3-variable 2-level (23) full factorial experimental design with four base point replicates, and the results were analyzed by the regression model, Fischer test (F-test) and Halbich’s upgrading curve for the responses of ash content (or combustible matter grade) and the combustible matter recovery. The results obtained from the analysis indicated that while every factor considerably affected the combustible matter recovery, both collector (kerosene) and frother (AF65) significantly influenced the ash contents of the carbonaceous matter products. The only effective mutual interaction influencing recovery was caused by the kerosene-aeration interaction, while the interaction of kerosene-aeration and kerosene-AF65 and interactions of all factors (kerosene-AF65-aeration) were significant for the ash content of the products. Basing on the grade–recovery Halbich upgrading curve, regression model and a criterion for optimum of flotation results, it was found that a coal product with combustible matter grade of 91.09% and 71% combustible matter recovery can be obtained provided that it is processed at the higher level of kerosene (3 kg/Mg), higher level of frother AF65 (40 ppm) and lower aeration rate level of (0.16 cm/s).

Opis:
The gold extraction from Malaysian mesothermal lode gold ore through the cyanidation method was performed. The effect of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and lead nitrate Pb(NO3)2 were investigated on the percentage of gold recovery. The statistical analysis method using a response surface design-central composite design was applied to find the optimum condition for gold extraction. The studied parameters were NaCN concentration (300-500 ppm), H2O2 concentration (205-410 ppm), and Pb(NO3)2 concentration (50-150 ppm). It was found that increasing the amount of NaCN and H2O2 as well as decreasing the amount of Pb(NO3)2 in the studied range, increased the gold recovery. The analysis of variance suggested the linear model for the gold extraction with the optimum condition at 467.3 ppm NaCN, 94.96 ppm Pb(NO3)2, and 340 ppm H2O2. The gold extracted from the ore at the optimum condition was 88.97% as compared to 62.02% from conventional cyanidation. The characterization study of the gold ore indicated that the finely gold particles interlocked in the aluminosilicate phase (grain size of ~10.0 μm). The Van’t Hoff differential method justified that the cyanidation was of second order with a specific reaction rate of 0.0501/hour.
