Opis:
Supported liquids membranes are very promising products. They have been intensively inves-tigated in last two decades and widely used in many technologies especially in gas separation and purifi-cation processes. A key aspect in obtaining satisfying effectiveness and long membrane lifetime is a proper choice of ionic liquid and polymeric or ceramic support. Properties of both affect the processes of obtaining useful supported ionic liquid membranes. In comparison to polymeric membranes, ceramic ones are slightly thicker, however they are thermally and mechanically more stable. Our research was aimed at sintering fine glass particles of 500 to 45 μm in size in order to prepare porous membranes which can be used as supports for liquid membranes. Dextrin and borax were used as pore-making agents. The membranes, as disks 35 mm in diameter and 3 mm of thickness, were prepared. The porosity was determined using absorption method. It was found, that the porosity could be controlled by changing the applied pressure from 1 to 5 MPa, particle size distribution, sintering temperature, type and amount of pore-enhancing agents.

The selective removal of cobalt(II) from aqueous chloride solutions containing nickel(II) and lithium(I) was studied. The facilitated transport of metal ions through polymer inclusion membranes (PIMs) with trihexyl(tetradecyl)phosphonium thiosalicylate [PR4][TS] under various conditions was analyzed. In order to optimize the separation process, several factors such as the ion carrier concentration in the membrane as well as of the effect of the concentration of the acids in the source/receiving phases were investigated. The results show that PIM containing 25% CTA as the polymer support, 40% NPOE as the plasticizer and 35% [PR4][TS] allow the selective recovery of more than 90% of cobalt(II) from 6 mol/dm3 hydrochloric acid into 0.5 mol/dm3 sulfuric acid.

Opis:
Investigation of selective removal of Pb(II) and Cu(II) from acidic nitrate aqueous solutions using transport across polymer inclusion membranes PIMs was performed. The sulphur analogus of phosphinic acids, i.e. bis(2,4,4-trimethylpentyl)monothiophosphinic acid (1) and tert-butyl(phenyl)- phosphinothioic acid (2) as well as their mixture were incorporated into polymer inclusion membranes composed of cellulose triacetate as a support and o-nitrophenyl octyl ether as a plasticizer. In the experi-ments the transport of Cu(II) across PIM with 1 was rapid and complete, however the lead(II) removal increased with increased membrane saturation. Selective transport of Cu(II) over Pb(II) through PIMs with binary carrier system (1 + 2) was observed; the selectivity order was: Cu(II) >> Pb(II). At tempera-ture of 50C the selectivity coefficient Cu(II)/Pb(II) for membrane with binary carriers was the highest and was equal to 758.

The competitive transport of equimolar mixtures of Ag(I) and Cu(II) ions from aqueous source phase (cMe = 0.001 mol/dm3) across polymer inclusion membranes PIMs with N-(diethylthiophosphoryl)aza[18]crown-6 as ion carriers, was studied. The influence of pH of source phase and metal concentration on an efficiency of silver(I) transport through polymer inclusion membranes containing cellulose triacetate as the support and o-nitrophenyl pentyl ether as the plasticizer was studied. The transport selectivity order for the PIM with N-(diethylthiophosphoryl)-aza[18]crown-6 was: Ag(I) >> Cu(II). The metal cations transport rate can be explained by size and nature of substituent in lariat ether molecule, which prefer formation of Ag(I) complex in the membrane phase.

Opis:
This paper presents an application of three phosphonium ionic liquids for removal of Pd(II) ions from aqueous chloride solutions with liquid-liquid extraction and transport across polymer inclusion membranes (PIM). Trihexyl(tetradecyl)phosphonium chloride and bromide (Cyphos IL 101 and 102) and bis-(2,4,4-trimethylpentyl)phosphinate (Cyphos IL 104) were investigated as carriers of Pd(II) from aqueous chloride media. Extraction of Pd(II) with Cyphos IL 102 has not been previously described in the literature. Cyphos IL 102 used for the first time as metal ion carrier, efficiently extracts palladium(II) ions both with liquid-liquid extraction and PIM. NaCl concentration does not affect Pd(II) extraction with Cyphos IL 102, while increasing HCl content in the feed aqueous phase causes decrease in extraction efficiency. Stripping of Pd(II) with 0.5 M NH4OH is efficient (84 to 90%) and the organic phase after stripping could be reused for extraction. For PIM transport the highest values of the normalized initial flux are obtained for CTA membrane containing Cyphos IL 101 and a receiving phase: mixture 0.1 thiourea + 0.5 M HCl. It is indicated that initial flux does not determine the final result of the transport through the membranes because from the separation point of view, the most important is a complete transport of the solute to the receiving phase, described by the Pd(II) recovery factor.

Opis:
The demand for cobalt has increased significantly in recent years due to its use in a wide variety of products and processes. Cobalt and nickel often accompany each other in nature and close physicochemical properties of both metals make their separation a complicated practical problem. Organophosphorous extractants have been widely used to separate cobalt from nickel. This paper presents the preliminary results obtained for separation of cobalt from nickel using Cyanex 272 containing supported liquid membranes prepared by a novel ultrasound-assisted method. The results show that this novel supported liquid membrane preparation method leads to higher separation factors than those described in the literature under similar separation conditions.
