Opis:
Flotation optimal conditions and mechanism of regulator lime, isopentyl xanthate and butyl xanthate on pyrrhotite were investigated by flotation test, contact angle, zeta potential and infrared spectroscopic analysis. It is found that there is a certain relationship between the regulator lime and the collector isopentyl xanthate. The results of flotation indicate that lime can indeed inhibit pyrrhotite, and isopentyl xanthate can decrease the depression effect of lime on pyrrhotite in low alkalinity. The results of adsorption mechanism of lime and isopentyl xanthate show that after lime adsorbed on the pyrrhotite surface, Ca 2+inhibit the adsorption of collector with the form of Ca(OH) 2 precipitates. Compared with butyl xanthate, isopentyl xanthate could reduce the generation of hydrophilic Ca(OH) 2 and generate less hydrophilic CaCO3 as well to decrease the negative effect of gold-bearing pyrrhotite flotation depressed by lime.

Opis:
Numerous minerals found in nature contain silica, including quartz, cristobalite, opal, etc. They have the same chemical composition but different crystal structures, and this phenomenon is called “polymorphism” in mineralogy. For these polymorphic and multi-like minerals, in the flotation process, will it directly or indirectly affect the flotation effect. Based on this, this study mainly explores the difference between crystalline SiO2 and amorphous SiO2 in flotation. In this study, two crystal forms of SiO2 were subjected to flotation and adsorption capacity tests. FTIR, other test techniques, the chemical calculation of the flotation solution, and the theoretical calculation of the DLVO can all be used to provide an explanation. Finally, in the flotation experiment, the feedbacks of the two minerals to the change of the pH value of the pulp and the change of the concentration of the reagent are different. Through the comprehensive analysis of the adsorption capacity test and semi-quantitative calculation of the infrared spectrum, the adsorption capacity of crystalline SiO2 to drugs is about 23% higher than amorphous SiO2. Furthermore, during the flotation process, the amorphous SiO2 particles will agglomerate together and entrain into the foam through, resulting in concentrate pollution. So amorphous SiO2 will undoubtedly increase the difficulty of flotation.

Opis:
In this work, the effect of magnetite with different particle sizes on the flotation performance of both coarse and fine hematite particles were investigated by using sodium oleate as a collector. The results showed that the magnetite particles with different particle sizes showed a negative effect on hematite (-106+45 μm) recovery, but the addition of magnetite with the same particle sizes as hematite during the direct flotation of -45 μm hematite was beneficial to improve the recovery of micro-fine hematite and the Fe grade of concentrate. The finer the magnetite particle was, the more obvious the agglomeration effect of hematite was. Therefore, the beneficial effect could be achieved by adjusting the particle sizes of particles. Moreover, sodium oleate was beneficial to promote the agglomeration of micro-fine magnetite and hematite. The results from the microscopic analysis, laser particle size analysis, and EDLVO calculation proved that there was an effective aggregation between fine magnetite and fine hematite particles, which increased the apparent size of hematite particles and the probability of the mineral particles adhering to bubbles, thus improving the hematite recovery.

Opis:
For a low grade dolomite type fluorite ore in the Hebei province, it was observed that the depressant CK102, a mixture of sulfuric acid, sodium silicate and aluminum sulfate, can effectively inhibit the gangue mineral dolomite in the flotation of fluorite. However, the inhibition mechanism of the depressant is still unclear. In this paper, the flotation separation performance and underlying mechanism of CK102 inhibiting dolomite were investigated through mineral flotation tests, adsorption measurements, infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The flotation results showed that the inhibition effect of CK102 on dolomite flotation was much more remarkable than that of fluorite flotation under optimum conditions. Adsorption measurements revealed that there was competitive adsorption between the depressant and collector and that the adsorption of the depressant CK102 prevented the collector modified sodium oleate from adsorbing onto the surface of minerals. The FT-IR and XPS results showed that the co-oxygen cross-linked component of the depressant CK102 chemisorbed on the surface of dolomite; the CaSiO3 precipitation was generated from the reaction of CK102 with Ca2+ groups on the surface of the dolomite; Al2MgO8Si2 precipitation was also generated from Mg2+ reacting with the sodium silicate and aluminum sulfate of CK102. The above adsorptions and reactions enhanced the hydrophilicity of the dolomite surface and the dolomite was effectively depressed.

Opis:
Gravity separation is the primary method used to beneficiate Ta-Nb-bearing minerals, however, it performs poorly in low-grade and fine-grained ores. A comparative study of gravity separation products (concentrate, middlings, and tailings) reveals the factors affecting the separation behavior of Ta-Nb-bearing minerals in the process combined with a spiral chute and shaking table from the perspective of mineralogy. The results reveal that columbite-tantalite is the principal Ta-Nb-bearing mineral. As the grinding time increases, the grade of Ta and Nb in concentrate increases significantly. The grain size of columbite-tantalite in the concentrate is the coarsest, followed by that in the middlings, and the finest in the tailings, which are mainly distributed in the range of -150+38 μm, -75+20 μm, and -38 μm, respectively. The liberation degree of columbite-tantalite in the concentrate and tailings is positively correlated with grinding time, while that in the middlings is negatively correlated with grinding time. The density of columbite-tantalite-bearing particles in concentrate is mainly distributed above 3 or even 4, due to the high liberation degree of the columbite-tantalite in the concentrate, as well as the high amount of rich intergrowth associated with heavy minerals. The density of Ta-Nb-bearing mineral particles in the middlings and tailings is predominantly distributed in D<3, owing to columbite-tantalite mainly associated with lighter gangue minerals such as quartz, albite, and orthoclase. It demonstrates that the liberation degree is not the most essential factor in determining columbite-tantalite separation behavior in the gravity field, and the mineralogical characteristics of columbite-tantalite including grain size, association relationship, and particle density, may be more important. The results of this investigation can provide theoretical support for the strengthening separation of low-grade tantalum-niobium ore.

Opis:
Red mud is a kind of solid waste produced during alumina extraction from bauxite. To extraction valuable iron from red mud, the technology of adding sodium sulfate-segregation roasting-magnetic separation to treat red mud was developed. During the paper, the effects of various process parameters on the extraction of iron by segregation roasting-magnetic separation were studied, and the phase transformation behavior and microstructure of iron are explored. Repeated test results showed that magnetic concentrate (mass percent), TFe of 80.29 % and overall iron recovery of 92.08 %was obtained. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) results indicated that after the segregation roasting, the hematite was transformed into a new metal phase consisting mainly of metallic iron and magnetite. The addition of sodium sulfate during the segregation roasting can obviously improve the efficiency of segregation roasting-magnetic separation for iron extraction.

Opis:
In this paper, sodium oleate, polyacrylamide, soluble starch and sodium carboxymethyl cellulose were used as flocculants to study the flocculation and sedimentation behavior of microfine ilmenite. Sedimentation test shows that sodium oleate and polyacrylamide have good flocculation effect on ultrafine ilmenite. The flocculation rate of ilmenite can be further improved by the combination of sodium oleate and polyacrylamide. It was found that both flocculants could generate chemical adsorption with ilmenite surface, and they all react with $Fe^{3+}$ on ilmenite surface. However, sodium oleate reacts with $Fe^{3+}$ to form a water-insoluble iron oleate precipitate which coats the surface of the ilmenite and hinders the action of polyacrylamide and the remaining $Fe^{3+}$. This problem can be avoided by adding polyacrylamide followed by sodium oleate, and the flotation recovery can be increased significantly.
