Opis:
Red mud is a kind of solid waste produced during alumina extraction from bauxite. To extraction valuable iron from red mud, the technology of adding sodium sulfate-segregation roasting-magnetic separation to treat red mud was developed. During the paper, the effects of various process parameters on the extraction of iron by segregation roasting-magnetic separation were studied, and the phase transformation behavior and microstructure of iron are explored. Repeated test results showed that magnetic concentrate (mass percent), TFe of 80.29 % and overall iron recovery of 92.08 %was obtained. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) results indicated that after the segregation roasting, the hematite was transformed into a new metal phase consisting mainly of metallic iron and magnetite. The addition of sodium sulfate during the segregation roasting can obviously improve the efficiency of segregation roasting-magnetic separation for iron extraction.

Opis:
In this paper, sodium oleate, polyacrylamide, soluble starch and sodium carboxymethyl cellulose were used as flocculants to study the flocculation and sedimentation behavior of microfine ilmenite. Sedimentation test shows that sodium oleate and polyacrylamide have good flocculation effect on ultrafine ilmenite. The flocculation rate of ilmenite can be further improved by the combination of sodium oleate and polyacrylamide. It was found that both flocculants could generate chemical adsorption with ilmenite surface, and they all react with $Fe^{3+}$ on ilmenite surface. However, sodium oleate reacts with $Fe^{3+}$ to form a water-insoluble iron oleate precipitate which coats the surface of the ilmenite and hinders the action of polyacrylamide and the remaining $Fe^{3+}$. This problem can be avoided by adding polyacrylamide followed by sodium oleate, and the flotation recovery can be increased significantly.

Opis:
In this study the effects and mechanism of lead ions influence on wolframite flotation with benzohydroxamic acid (BHA) were studied through micro-flotation, adsorption experiments, zeta potential measurements, logarithmic concentration diagram, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. It was observed that lead ions could significantly enhance the recovery of wolframite in flotation and adsorption density of collector BHA onto the wolframite surface. The results showed that Pb existed in the forms of lead ion, monohydric lead, and lead hydroxide at the water-wolframite interface respectively, at three pH ranges. They increased the zeta potential of wolframite. However, the zeta potential of wolframite was still negative, resulting in repulsive electrostatic force to anionic collector BHA. Combining with XPS spectra, it revealed the chemisorption of BHA onto the wolframite surface. In addition, PbO or Pb(OH)2 was observed on the wolframite surface due to the reaction between lead ions and wolframite. These reaction products increased the adsorption site of BHA on the wolframite surface because Pb-hydroxamate was found on the wolframite surface.

Opis:
In order to investigate the impact of density on the classification behavior of particles in the static classifier of Vertical Spindle Mill, the sensitivity of overflow yield to the increase of air amount for narrowly sized pyrite, carborundum, quartz and coal samples were compared in a lab-scale classifier, respectively. Response surface methodology is used to analyze the combined effect of size and density on the classification. Wide size classification was also conducted and results show that both the yield and R90 of overflow increase with the decreasing of density, and the growth of air amount would also lead them to rise. The Whiten’s model was applied to illustrate the influence of density on the sharpness of classification, corrected cut size and fishhook effect. Results show that material with a lower density would have a higher fishhook effect parameter, classification sharpness and corrected cut size. The increase of air amount would result in a more evident fishhook effect for the high density material. Based on the Whiten’s model, a new classification efficiency model with the addition of particle density in various forms was established. This new model could describe the classification efficiency of materials with different density in the identical experiment conditions.

Opis:
Reverse flotation of collophanite at natural pH could significantly decrease the cost of pH regulators. In this study, isooctyl polyoxyethylene ether phosphate (AEP) was tested as a new surfactant in the reverse flotation of collophanite. Micro-flotation tests were conducted, and the adsorption mechanism of the new collector was analysed using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and zeta potential analyses. The results of the flotation tests demonstrated that AEP could enable dolomite to float under natural pH (pH=7.2) and showed profound selectivity towards dolomite as opposed to fluorapatite. Based on the zeta potential and XPS results, the adsorption phenomena are mainly attributed to calcium active sites on both mineral surfaces. Dolomite possesses more magnesium active sites than fluorapatite, which tend to reinforce the interaction effect between AEP and dolomite. Furthermore, when compared to CO32- ions on the dolomite surface, PO43- ions on the fluorapatite surface tend to exhibit a stronger hindrance to the adsorption of AEP on the fluorapatite surface. This is attributed to their larger volumes and more charges on their surfaces, thereby causing a floatability difference between the two minerals.
