Opis:
A cyclonic-static micro-bubble flotation column (FCSMC) has been widely used in mineral separation. FCSMC includes countercurrent, cyclone and jet flow mineralization zones in a single column. In this study, the energy feature of the three different zones was compared. The turbulent flow was evaluated in terms of the turbulent kinetic energy (k) and the turbulent dissipation rate (ε). An appropriate computing model was determined by comparing the flow field value measured by PIV with the results of the Fluent numerical simulation. Jet flow separation exhibited the maximum k and ε values among the three columns, whereas counter-current separation displayed the minimum values. The high circulating volumetric flowrate means great energy input and turbulent intensity. The higher turbulent dissipation rate, the smaller the bubble is. The better performance of the FCSMC was mainly attributed to the multiple mineralization steps. The floatability of mineral particles gradually decreases with an increase in flotation time, the mineralization energy gradually increased to overcome the decrease in mineral floatability. By contrast, the countercurrent was beneficial for recovering the coarse particles, and the jet flow was beneficial for recovering the fine particles.

Opis:
Every year, a large amount of mineral processing wastewater is discharged from various industries into the environment which is considered a challenging task not only because of its large volume, but more importantly, its hazardous components, while its reuse as feedwater without proper treatments causes great harm to the final product of these industries. Cost-effective methods are required to treat a wide range of industrial wastewater in a diverse range of conditions. In this study, a combined hydrocyclone-electrocoagulation system is tried to treat the wastewater for industries with high water consumption and high pollutants such as paper industry, iron and metal forming industry, and marble industry. The effects of the hydrocyclone operational parameters, such as feed inlet pressure and diameter, vortex finder diameter, apex diameter, and feed solids content, were investigated. In the case, wastewater of paper industry, the following optimum conditions $(P = 4.5$ bar, $D_o = 15.8 mm, D_u = 6 mm, D_i = 4 mm and c_s = 2.3%)$ were achieved. An overflow of about 90.58% water recovery and 21.45% solid at 75.92% separation efficiency was obtained. The results showed that the hydrocycloneelectrocoagulation treatment has efficiently treated the three different types of industrial wastewater. The chemical oxygen demand (COD), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), total solid (TS), total suspended solids (TSS), colour and turbidity, were reduced sharply and met the effluent discharge or reuse standards. Also, compared with the hydrocyclone-treated wastewater, the hydrocyloneelectrocoagulation-treated wastewater was found to be more enhanced.

Opis:
The marble dust as a harmful industrial waste of marble fabrication was evaluated as aneconomical and efficient green adsorbent for Acid Red-1 dye and lead ions. The XRD, XRF, particle size, surface area and zeta-potential measurements were used to characterize the marble dust. The removal efficiency was optimized by studying several parameters such as pH, temperature, contact time, adsorbent dose and initial concentration. The optimum removal was achieved at pH 6, 20°C after 60 min in the presence of 2.5g/L marble dust. The rates of adsorption were found to follow the pseudo-second-order model. The results showed better fitting to Freundlich isotherm. The thermodynamic studies revealed that the adsorption process is spontaneous, exothermic and favorable at low temperature. The free energy (∆G°), enthalpy (∆H°), and entropy (∆S°) changes were calculated to predict the nature of adsorption. The removal efficiency was improved by calcination of the marble at 700°C. Application for textilewastewater showed high removal efficiency up to 99.9%of inorganic and organic pollutants. The product of treatment was used in the concrete and bricks manufactured, so there is nogeneration of second-order pollutants.

Opis:
Adsorption is widely used in wastewater treatment. In this work, the removal of quinoline, pyridine and phenol from coking wastewater by using modified coking coal, which was treated by four different modification methods i.e. acidification sodium hydroxide (5 mol/dm3), hydrochloric acid (5 mol/dm3) and acetic acid (5 mol/dm3) and low-temperature (105 oC) oxidation, was investigated. The modified coal was characterized by the surface area analysis, SEM, total acidity and basicity and FT-IR. The results showed that the surface area from high to low follows the order: modification with acetic acid, modification with hydrochloric acid, raw coal, modification with sodium hydroxide and modification with low-temperature. Experimental data were fitted to pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order and intra-particle diffusion. The adsorption of all followed pseudo-second-order kinetics. The result showed that the removal efficiency of coal modified by hydrochloric acid and acetic acid are higher than raw coal, while modified by sodium hydroxide and low-temperature are lower than raw coal., The coal modified by hydroxide acid had the best adsorption capacity.

Opis:
El-Hudi gold deposit, located in the South Eastern Desert of Egypt, represent large vein- type gold occurrence. The representative sample revealed the abundance of quartz as main constituent with minor amounts of mineral impurities. Gold was detectable (12 g/t) as determined using atomic absorption. The petrographic study revealed that the gold grains ranged from 10-40 μm. The grain boundaries of quartz are highly stained with iron minerals as hematite and limonite. Sericite mineral is common in discrete gold-bearing veins. Eroded pyrite was detected with high alteration leaving only cubic-shaped cavities behind. Different techniques for gravity separation were used to separate gold from the quartz mineral. After crushing and grinding of the sample, shaking table was used to upgrade the coarser fractions while Falcon concentrator was employed to upgrade the fine fraction. The best concentrate was obtained through grinding the whole sample to less than 0.2 mm, followed by cleaning steps. The gold content is increased from 12 to 145 g/t with total recovery of 78%.
