Opis:
In this paper molybdenite flotation using microemulsified collector was reported. The flotation performance of microemulsified collector and conventional diesel was compared. This study is a prelimi-nary investigation which uses pure molybdenite mineral in a modified Hallimond tube. The pH tests showed that the highest recovery of molybdenite in the presence of diesel and microemulsion was ob-tained at pH=6, reaching the recoveries of 93% and 90%, respectively. In the case of obtaining similar results, it was observed that the microemulsion consumption was lower in comparison to diesel. In the flotation tests with microemulsified collector the recovery slightly decreased because too large collector amount caused formation of more unstable bubbles. The contact angle measurements showed that the microemulsified collector was more effective for increasing the hydrophobicity of molybdenite surface. An adsorption model was proposed and it was suggested that the non-ionic surfactant present in the mi-croemulsified collector formed a continuous bimolecular layer, resulting in the increased surface hydro-phobicity. The accomplishment of this research demonstrated the viability of the use of microemulsified collector in molybdenite flotation, attempting to simplify the molybdenite flotation process, especially replace the conventional emulsified collector with high energy consumption and difficult storage.

A new method using sodium carbonate solution to treat a vanadium-bearing steel slag is proposed. The effects of the particle size, solid-to-liquid ratio, initial concentration of sodium carbonate solution, leaching temperature and stirring speed on the leaching rate of vanadium were investigated. The leaching kinetics of vanadium from the vanadium-bearing steel slag was studied, which indicated that the leaching rate was controlled by the step of diffusion through the solid layer around the unreacted core. The apparent activation energy for the process was 13.75 kJ/mol. By using this process, vanadium could be extracted effectively with the leaching rate of more than 80%.

Opis:
In nickel sulfide processing, magnesium silicates (serpentines) can easily form slime coatings or hetero-aggregation on pentlandite surfaces, and hence decrease the pentlandite flotation rate and recovery. In this work, magnetic separation of pentlandite from serpentine using selective magnetic coating through adding magnetite fines as magnetic seeds was investigated. Interactions of magnetite-pentlandite and magnetite-serpentine were calculated by the DLVO (Derjaguin-Landau-Verwey-Overbeek) theory. The results show that the interaction of magnetite-pentlandite was obviously stronger than that of magnetite-serpentine with an external weak magnetic field (4776 A/m-1). Therefore, fine magnetite fractions selectively adhered to the pentlandite surfaces and enhanced its magnetism, resulting in being separated from serpentine by magnetic separation, which was further verified by magnetic coating-magnetic separation and SEM observations.

Opis:
In this study the collecting power of N-oleoyl sarcosine acid towards wolframite and quartz was studied using flotation. The adsorption mechanism was also discussed based on the results from adsorption experiments, zeta potential measurements and infrared spectroscopy study. The flotation results showed that N-oleoyl sarcosine acid showed a good collecting power towards wolframite, and the optimal flotation pH = 7 was obtained. However, the collecting power of N-oleoyl sarcosine acid towards quartz was weak. Therefore, the flotation separation of wolframite from quartz can be performed using N-oleoyl sarcosine acid as a collector. The adsorption tests and electrokinetic studies showed that N-oleoyl sarcosine acid adsorbed only on the wolframite surface. Additionally, the results from the infrared spectroscopy study confirmed that N-oleoyl sarcosine acid is adsorbed on the wolframite surface, and the metal complex (ferriccarboxylate) maybe the major adsorbed species.

We comparatively studied the ball mill grinding characteristics of comminuted hematite products using a high-pressure grinding roll (HPGR) and a conventional cone crusher (CC). The major properties, including grinding kinetics and technical efficiency (Et), were investigated. The parameters in m-th order grinding kinetics were analyzed, and grinding specific rates were visualized. Ore particles experienced three inherent stages in ball grinding mills, that is i) rapid grinding of coarse fraction, ii) dynamic grinding of medium size fraction, and iii) single grinding of medium size fraction. Particles with size -0.043+0.031 mm were used into dynamic grinding stage earlier than particles -0.105+0.043 mm, and then over-grinding of fines occurred easily. Compared with CC products, HPGR products had significantly shorter turning time points in three breakage stages, implying that HPGR products were ground faster with earlier occurrence of fines over-grinding. HPGR products gave lower Et at a decreasing rate than the CC products for -2.0 mm and -0.5 mm feeds. Then, it showed a slightly higher value of Et for -2.0+0.5 mm feed. This indicated that fines over-grinding in HPGR full-size products were more serious under the condition of coarse grinding, whereas the efficiency was higher, and over-grinding weakened significantly in HPGR coarse products because of screening-out fines.

Opis:
This study aimed to show the flotation behavior of a nickel sulfide ore in a cyclonic flotation column. The flotation experiments were carried out using a sample of nickel sulfide ore obtained from a mineral processing plant of China. Representative samples collected from the feed, concentrate, tailing, and circulation middling were sieved using a cyclonic particle analyzer to collect different size fractions for analysis. The function of the column cyclonic zone of was evaluated by comparing the quality of tailing and circulation middling. The flotation results showed that the concentrate with Ni grade of 1.78% and recovery of 65.56% was obtained under given test conditions. The content of main sulfide minerals and coarse particles in the circulation middling was higher than that in the tailing. The results indicated that, unlike conventional cyclone classification, separation achieved in the cyclonic zone of the column was not dependent on the particle size and density. Sulfide minerals with good floatability were easily captured by bubbles and moved toward the center of the column, even if these particles were coarser and heavier.

Sericite is the main contaminant of concentrate in commercial microcrystalline graphite ore flotation. It was necessary to identify its recovery mechanisms so that the appropriate solution can be selected. In this study, the influence of sericite on flotation selectivity of microcrystalline graphite ore and its recovery mechanisms were investigated. Artificial mixtures flotation test suggested that sericite seriously reported into concentrate leading to poor flotation selectivity of microcrystalline graphite ore. However, the aggregation/dispersion behavior of artificial mixtures indicated that a large repulsive energy existed between sericite and microcrystalline graphite particles at pH 7.4, and sericite was not likely to report into graphite concentrate by slime coating. The results obtained from contact angle measurements and a technique of Warren showed that the floated sericite reached the froth via a combination of both entrainment and entrapment mechanisms, not via true flotation.

Opis:
Based on the concept of circular economy, a novel method of industrial organic wastewater treatment by using adsorption on coal is introduced. Coal is used to adsorb organic pollutants from coking wastewaters. After adsorption, the coal would be used for its original purpose, its value is not reduced and the pollutant is thus recycled. Through systemic circulation of coking wastewater zero emissions can be achieved. Lignite, coking coal and anthracite were used as adsorbents in batch experiments. The quinoline removal efficiency of coal adsorption was investigated. The coking coal and anthracite exhibited properties well-suited for adsorption onto both adsorbents. The experimental data were fitted to Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms as well as Temkin, Redlich–Peterson (R-P) and Dubinin-Radushkevich (D-R) models. Both Freundlich Isotherm and D-R model provided reasonable models of the adsorption process. The thermodynamic parameters of quinoline adsorption on coking coal were calculated. The thermodynamic parameters indicated that the adsorption process is exothermic and is a physical adsorption. The △S° value indicated that the adsorption entropy decreased because the adsorbate molecule was under restrictions after it adsorption on the coal surface. The coal adsorption method for removing refractory organic pollutants is a great hope for achieving zero emission waste water for a coking plant.

Opis:
A new technique for pretreatment of coking wastewater is introduced based on the concept of circular economy. Coal is fed into a coking system after adsorption. This study validates the feasibility of using coking coal to adsorb organic pollutants in coking wastewater. The sorption kinetics and equilibrium sorption isotherms of coking coal for removal of chemical oxygen demand (COD) and phenol from coking wastewater was also discussed in this paper. Gas chromatograph/mass spectroscopy (GC/MS) was used to detect changes in the quality of coking wastewater. The results showed that when coking coal dosage was 120 g/dm3, 65% of COD and 34% of phenol in waste water can be removed after 40 min of agitation. The surface functional groups of coking coal before and after adsorption were observed with a Fourier transform infrared spectrometer. The kinetics of COD and phenol adsorption from coking wastewater by coking coal fitted the pseudo second-order model. The adsorption process of coking coal can be classified into two categories, namely, rapid and slow. The Freundlich isotherm provided a better fit with all adsorption isotherms than the Langmuir isotherm. Coking coal could be a suitable low-cost adsorbent for recalcitrant organic pollutants.

Opis:
A new method using non-salt roasting-alkaline leaching to treat vanadium slag was proposed in this study. The V(III) in vanadium slag is oxidized to V(V) by roasting and the latter can be effectively leached out as vanadate by alkaline leaching. This method possesses distinct advantage of being able to treat high-grade vanadium slag. For the South Africa high-grade vanadium slag, the maximum vanadium recovery of 98% was achieved when the reaction conditions were roasting temperature of 850 °C, roasting time of 2 h, alkali concentration of 30 wt.%, leaching temperature of 210 °C, and leaching time of 2 h. The roasting and leaching mechanisms have been well elucidated based on the XRD and SEM analysis results. The phases transitions of vanadium slag were clearly presented. This work has laid the foundation for the industrial application of non-salt roasting-alkaline leaching and provided new insights into effective extraction of high-grade vanadium slag.

The mineralogical and chemical characteristics of heavy metals in tailings and soils is an imperative for potential ecological risk assessment of metals to environment and heavy metals pollution prevention and control. The lead-zinc tailing and contaminated soil in and near the tailing pond were sampeled from a mine tailing pond in Hunan province (China), in which the chemical composition, phase composition and thermal behavior of tailing and soil were investigated. Furthermore, the petrography of lead-zinc tailing and chemical fractionations of Pb and Zn in the contaminated soil were studied in details. The mineral phases of lead-zinc tailing were galena, pyrite, chalcopyrite, sphalerite, quartz and fluorite, as distinguished by the reflected light microscopy and further proofed by the scanning electron microscope-energy dispersive spectrometer under the back scattered electron mode. Chemical fractionations were carried out by the European Community Bureau of Reference (BCR) sequential extraction procedure for Pb and Zn in the soil and the mild acido-soluble (F1), reducible (F2), oxidizable (F3), and residual (F4) fractions were 5.90, 75.24, 4.90 and 13.96% for Pb, and 47.74, 34.06, 9.59 and 8.61% for Zn, respectively. Subsequently, the individual contamination factor (ICF) of Pb and Zn were calculated as 6.16 and 10.61, respectively. The DTPA-available content of Pb and Zn in the contaminated soil were 39.9 and 170.7 mg·kg-1, respectively. The study provided a base for selecting remediation strategies in the studied area.
