Opis:
Optical logic gates are very important structures required for creating all-optical digital signal processing systems. Optical XOR and XNOR gates can be used for designing optical adders and optical comparators, respectively. In this paper we proposed a novel structure which can be used for simultaneous implementation of optical XOR and XNOR logic gates. The proposed structure was designed using a nonlinear photonic crystal ring resonator. The delay time for XOR and XNOR gates are 1.7 and 3 ps, respectively.

Opis:
All-optical logic is the key to future high speed and large capacity optical transmission, the realization of optical packet switching and optical computing, and it has a very profound influence on the development of future optical communication. A linear optical amplifier as a new type of semiconductor optical amplifier, which has a good gain characteristic, has better signal performance than a traditional semiconductor optical amplifier in the wavelength conversion. This article presents a numerical simulation model of all-optical logic XOR gate and its logic operation based on cross-gain modulation of linear optical amplifier, and has also completed some of the basic logic operations, including AND, OR, NOT operations.

Opis:
Optical logics will play a crucial role in the next generation all optical data processing networks. Therefore an all optical majority gate will be designed by using nonlinear photonic crystal ring resonators. For realizing the proposed structure we need three nonlinear resonant rings. In order to make nonlinear resonant rings, we used chalcogenide glass as the dielectric material for the dielectric rods. The output port of the proposed structure will be active only when two or three logic input ports are active. The rise and fall time values of the proposed structure are about 2 and 1 ps, respectively. The total footprint of the proposed structure is about 1287 μm2.

Opis:
In this paper, the possibility of using a silicon waveguide based microring resonator as a nonlinear all-optical switch is described under low power operation through a two-photon absorption effect. All-optical multiplexer/demultiplexer scheme based on two cascaded microring resonators has been proposed and described. The proposed circuits require smaller number of ring resonators and a single circuit consisting of two microring resonators capable to perform both multiplexer/demultiplexer operations by simply interchanging the inputs and outputs. Two optical pump signals represented the two operands of the logical operations to modulate the two microring resonators. The demultiplexer circuit can also perform as a half-adder/subtractor and a single bit data comparator. Numerical simulation results confirming described methods are given in this paper. The performances of the schemes are analyzed by calculating the extinction ratio, contrast ratio and amplitude modulation of the resulting data streams.

Opis:
Optical time-division multiplexing is a natural multiplexing technique leading to terabit/s transmission capacity for many services that will be found in near future optical telecommunication networks. In this paper we have conducted a theoretical study of all-optical time-division multiplexing switching using GaAs-AlGaAs based microring resonator together with performances characteristics. The proposed circuit is more compact, simple and will be helpful in designing all-optical telecommunication circuits in near future. Numerical simulation results confirming described methods are given in this paper.

Opis:
Checking the parity of the data signal during transmission and reception is one way to ensure errorless transmission of data. In this communication the authors propose a method to implement an all-optical parity generator and checker using semiconductor optical amplifier-based Mach–Zehnder interferometers. The scheme, able to process input signals at the same wavelength, is characterized using return-to-zero modulated signals at 10 Gb/s. Correct logic bit sequences and clear open eye patterns with extinction ratios exceeding 10 dB are achieved. Simple structure and potential for integration make this architecture an interesting approach in photonic computing and optical signal processing.
