Opis:
Bidirectional reflectance distribution function of some artificial satellite used materials at the wavelength of 1.06 μm was measured in laboratory. Bidirectional reflectance distribution function (BRDF) models of these materials were established with the five-parameter BRDF model. Laser radar cross-section of a scaled satellite with various materials was calculated, and characteristics of laser radar cross-section of the satellite were discussed. Measurement system to measure laser radar cross-section of the satellite was established and the scaled satellite model was measured. By analyzing the measured data and calculated data, it can be clearly seen that the BRDF of the surface materials and the laser incidence angle are two of main influential factors of the scaled satellite’s laser radar cross-section. These works can provide a reference for design of the lidar system.

Opis:
A multi-parameter sensor with enhanced sensitivity based on magnetic fluids infiltrated photonic crystal fiber is proposed. The sensing performances are investigated using the mode coupling theory and finite element method. Four symmetrical defective channels are assembled into the photonic crystal fiber to produce two resonant transmission dips λCV and λCH in vertical and horizontal directions, respectively. Each dip can be split into two relatively shallow dips (λCV1, λCV2 or λCH1, λCH2) when the photonic crystal fiber is bent. Interestingly, the values of (λCH2 – λCH1) and (λCV2 – λCV1) are associated with corresponding bend-curvature but almost unaffected by external temperature or magnetic field. On the contrary, the values of (λCH2 + λCH1)/2 and (λCV2 + λCV1)/2 are sensitive to temperature or magnetic field regardless of the bending condition. Based on above characteristics and the dependence of the magnetic fluids refractive index on temperature and magnetic field, the proposed sensor can measure not only the bend-curvature and bend-direction, but also the temperature and magnetic field.

In order to simplify the optical setup and the encryption process, a diffractive-imaging-based optical encryption system using a single diffraction pattern is proposed. A predesigned binary mask is placed before the plaintext in the encryption process, and three randomly distributed phase only masks are placed in the optical path. Only one diffraction pattern needs to be recorded as ciphertext by CCD. In the decryption process, an iterative phase retrieval algorithm is applied, in which the predesigned binary mask acts as a support constraint in the input plane. After the iterative process, an interpolation operation for the zero-valued pixels is also implemented. The effectiveness and robustness of the proposal are demonstrated by numerical simulation results.

Opis:
Polarization properties of Gaussian–Schell model quantization field propagating through the Kolmogorov turbulence of a marine-atmosphere channel are studied based on the degree of quantum polarization. The effective photon annihilation and creation operators of Gaussian–Schell model quantization field propagation in a marine-atmosphere are developed by making use of the extended Huygens–Fresnel integral of quantum field. The effects of the outer scale on the degree of polarization can be neglected. As the source transverse coherent width, the number of received photons, the inner scale of turbulent eddies, and the source transverse radius decrease or the re- fractive index structure parameter increases, the degree of polarization decreases. In theory, we find that the polarization fade of marine-atmosphere turbulence channels is larger than that of terrene-atmosphere turbulence channels under same transport parameters and the channel with a stronger turbulence strength will possess a larger detection area of a polarization signal, which have potentially important implications for free-space quantum key distribution.

Opis:
The analytical expression for the cross-spectral density function of stochastic electromagnetic Bessel–Gauss pulsed beams through a dispersive aperture lens is derived and used to study the changes in the spectral degree of polarization in an optical focus system. The changes in the spectral degree of polarization at the focal plane and on the z-axis are performed in the case of dispersion-free, dispersion of the first, second, and higher orders, respectively. It is shown that the dispersion affects the peak value of the spectral degree of polarization, and the higher order dispersion leads to a more obvious effect on the peak value of the spectral degree of polarization at the focal plane. On the z-axis, the spectral degree of polarization in the dispersion-free case is different form that in the dispersion case, however, the dispersion of different orders almost has the same effect on the spectral degree of polarization. The results obtained in this paper may be crucial for high precision laser detection.

Opis:
The digital holographic phase microscopy (DHPM) technique which has been proposed for cellular morphology and dynamic analysis yielded highly desirable results. However, for nucleated cells (especially white blood cells (WBCs)), their submicroscopic structure has not yet been deconstructed through a phase unwrapping method due to the heterogeneity of an internal phase. By analyzing the phase heterogeneity of subclasses of WBCs, the typical phase models of them are built first in this paper; using the simulation method, the wrapped phase distributions of these models are obtained. However, by optimizing the wrapped phase maps and analyzing the relationships between them and typical blood cells, their features are selected and extracted. Then the models built are sorted out from each other successfully without unwrapping via analyzing these extracted features, which provides a valuable approach and technological base for the classification and identification of blood cells.

Opis:
In order to completely eliminate, or greatly reduce the number of phase wraps in 2D wrapped phase map, Gdeisat and co-workers proposed an algorithm, which uses shifting the spectrum towards the origin. But the spectrum can be shifted only by an integer number, meaning that the phase wraps reduction is often not optimal. In addition, Gdeisat’s method will take much time to make the Fourier transform, inverse Fourier transform, select and shift the spectral components. In view of the above problems, we proposed an improved method for phase wraps elimination or reduction. First, the wrapped phase map is padded with zeros, the carrier frequency of the projected fringe is determined by high resolution, which can be used as the moving distance of the spectrum. And then realize frequency shift in spatial domain. So it not only can enable the spectrum to be shifted by a rational number when the carrier frequency is not an integer number, but also reduce the execution time. Finally, the experimental results demonstrated that the proposed method is feasible.

Opis:
This paper reviews two techniques that have been recently published for three-dimensional profilometry and proposes one shot profilometry using iterative two-step temporal phase-unwrapping by combining the composite fringe projection and the iterative two-step temporal phase unwrapping algorithm. In temporal phase unwrapping, many images with different frequency fringe pattern are needed to project, which would take much time. In order to solve this problem, Ochoa proposed a phase unwrapping algorithm based on phase partitions using a composite fringe. However, we found that the fringe order determined through the construction of phase partitions tended to be imprecise. Recently, we proposed an iterative two-step temporal phase unwrapping algorithm, which can achieve high sensitivity and high precision shape measurement. But it needs multiple frames of fringe images which would take much time. In order to take into account both the speed and accuracy of three-dimensional shape measurement, we get a new, and more accurate unwrapping method based on a composite fringe pattern by combining these two techniques. This method not only retains the speed advantage of Ochoa’s algorithm, but also greatly improves its measurement accuracy. Finally, the experimental evaluation is conducted to prove the validity of the proposed method.

The qualitative measurement of low atmospheric density in the air flow field has been investigated in this paper. The supersonic flow field with Mach number of 1.5 around the NACA0006 aerofoil has been numerically simulated and the transient slight pressure and low density atmosphere have been experimentally determined based on Rayleigh scattering of a 266 nm ultraviolet laser. The scattering patterns have been effectively captured under different atmospheric pressure of 4.5, 92, 470 and 710 Pa with laser energy of only 0.5 mJ. It has been demonstrated that in the pressure range from 4.5 to 1100 Pa, corresponding to the atmospheric density from 4.8105×10–5 kg/m3 to 1.279×10–2 kg/m3, the scattering intensity of an ultraviolet laser is linear to the pressure and density with the slope coefficient of 0.00968 a.u./Pa and 0.83226 a.u./(kg/m3×10–3). It has been proved that Rayleigh scattering is a promising technology for observation of instantaneous and multidimensional distribution of a supersonic flow field.

Opis:
The scratch on a fused silica surface was treated as a chain of connected damage sites and mitigated one after another using CO2 laser irradiation. The optical microscopy image shows that a scratch with the width of about 30 μm and length of several millimeters can be completely mitigated without the formation of debris and bubbles. The mitigated scratch can survive under raster scan laser irradiation with the fluency increased up to 11.0J/cm2 at 3ns and 351nm. On the contrary, the substrate without CO2 laser mitigation is seriously damaged under this irradiation. The light modulation induced by mitigation is much smaller when the scratch is mitigated before being damaged. The light modulation is about 2 when the distance to the mitigated sample is larger than 20cm. The birefringence induced by residual stress in the mitigated scratch is measured. The retardance of the mitigated scratch before being damaged is not visible. Therefore, residual stress in this mitigated scratch before being damaged should be not a critical potential risk in laser damage.
