- EU recommendations for wastewater management and relevant Polish legislation were analyzed carefully in terms of compliance. Comparisons were made for the compositions of the effluents treated according to the EU standards and Polish regulations. The scope of a multi-variant concept was presented to help the county authorities make decisions pertaining to the methods of wastewater disposal. Presented were also some basic criteria for the choice of an optimal variant. Consideration was given to the methods of reckoning the costs of the wastewater discharge and disposal system, and these include capital and joint costs as well. The components of the operating costs for particular elements of the system were determined. For the purpose of illustration, the wastewater disposal system of Długołęka, District of Wrocław, was optimized.
