Opis:
With the analysis of a textbook case, the inflectional category of dual in contemporary French, this article presents the hypothesis of a rise in morphology among the founding disciplines of grammar in written languages. Through a study of morphographies, this trend is considered here as a result of the emergence and development of so-called electronic dictionaries, with their lexicographical words as entries to access form / meaning associations. We know that these dictionaries, piloted by mixed teams of computer scientists and linguists, impose themselves step by step as major classificatory tools for the most general treatments, in theoretical and applied linguistics, now related in our modernity to the exploitation of large corpora that have become digitised.

Dans cet article, nous présentons et analysons les verbes supports intensifs appliqués aux principaux noms prédicatifs de la classe <colère> en ancien français et en ancien espagnol. Nous décrivons cette combinatoire lexicale restreinte et nous identifions les métaphores de base qui orientent la sélection des formules intensives. Nous observons qu’un point de vue synchronique tendrait à privilégier une description des collocations axée sur la sélection lexicale, tandis que la perspective diachronique favoriserait la prise en compte des métaphores conceptuelles. Nous signalons les coïncidences entre les deux langues étudiées, mais nous relevons, également, quelques spécificités de l’une et de l’autre.
The intensive support verbs selected by the predicative nouns of the class <anger> in Old French and Old Spanish are presented and analyzed in this paper. The lexically constrained combinations between these verbs and nouns are described, and the basic metaphors that govern the selection of intensive structures are identified. We observe that a synchronic perspective would prefer a lexical selection-based description of collocations, whereas a diachronic perspective would prefer the use of conceptual metaphors. We highlight certain similarities between the two languages studied, but also some differences.

Ce travail examine le fonctionnement des pronoms démonstratifs neutres du français devant les subordinnées de type relatif. Il montre les différences de comportement de ce par rapport aux formes cela, ceci, ça , en détaillant les modes d'acquisition du sens et de la référence de ces termes, et établit que ce  est un pronom défini non démonstratif, avec des évolutions dans les usages.
This work deals with the construction of relatives and cleft clauses that follow a demonstrative pronoun in French. It examines their mode of acquisition of meaning and reference, either by referential increase obtained by predicative interactions and lexical meaning, or by the process of focusing on a referent in the situation or context. We show that the original pronoun ce is no longer demonstrative in all these structures, and how the various demonstratives are used in actual French in those contexts.

Thanking, belonging to expressive speech acts, according to the classification by Searle (1969), can be regarded as worth exploring due to the fact that gratitude, as a component of value systems, is as the fundamental emotion underlying social relations, and thus reflected in the language, especially fixed expressions, crucial for linguistic politeness. The aim of the present research is to compare explicit and implicit formulas (as referred to by Kerbrat-Orecchioni 2001) of the act of thanking in French and Polish. The examined material is composed of exemplary utterances retrieved from blogs, social networking sites, and internet fora. The methodology used includes studies on speech act theory (Austin 1962), typology of speech acts (Searle 1969), as well as research papers on language politeness by Kerbrat-Orecchioni (1996, 2001) and gratitude (SieradzkaBaziur 2017). Moreover, the author refers to comparative studies on politeness acts conducted up to now (Romero 2000, Rădulescu and Scurtu 2003, Perez 2005, Grossmann and Krzyżanowska 2018, Meng 2012). The author classifies collected explicit and implicit utterances, juxtaposing French and Polish examples and providing an analysis based on pragmatic parameters. As a result, the author creates a corpus of utterances used for expressing gratitude along with a study on diverse thanking formulas in both languages.

Machine translators such as those offered by Google, Deep, ChatGPT and others are already using NMT systems. They apply the techniques of artificial intelligence that are constantly being developed, so they are currently providing increasingly correct and suitable translations. In the first part of this article, the author examines the case of the French verb louer by having it translated in different contexts by three automatic translators mentioned to see how effective they currently are as translation tools. Next, the verb louer is presented and analyzed as seen through the prism of the Antidote 8 dictionary. The last part of the article is devoted to the French-Polish description of the verb studied using the Object-Oriented Approach, with the aim of disambiguating it and developing the system of syntactico-semantic rules (object classes, frames, scripts) enabling the appropriate automatic translation of sentences in which it may appear.

Ce texte présente une analyse sémantico-syntaxique contrastive français-polonais  des constructions nominales à verbes supports  avec comme application une base de données  bilingue. Notre recherche s’inspire directement du livre de Gaston Gross Description systématique des verbes supports (à paraître). Nous avons étudié les verbes supports de la classe d’objet <attaques> pour trouver leurs équivalents polonais. Une telle analyse dévoile deux  difficultés majeures : parfois manque de construction équivalente nominale en polonais et souvent le nombre moins élévé de verbes supports en polonais par rapport au français, le polonais étant une langue moins ‘riche’ lexicalement, plus généralisante sémantiquement. La recherche des verbes supports adéquats en polonais exige une analyse sémantique approfondie pour saisir les différences de sens et d’emplois .Pour le faire nous appliquons la méthodologie de la grammaire basée sur la combinatoire sémantique, complétée une étude des sens aspectuels et de la phraséologie liés aux verbes supports dans les deux langues.
This paper presents a contrastive French-Polish semantic and syntactic analysis of nominal constructions with support verbs. The research is directly inspired by Gaston Gross’s book Systematic description of support verbs (forthcoming). What has been studied in particular is the French support verbs of the object class <attack> in order to find their Polish equivalents. Such an analysis reveals two major difficulties: at times, the lack of equivalent nominal construction in Polish, and often, the lower number of support verbs in Polish compared to French, which renders Polish as being a less “rich” language, that is, more semantically generalizing one. The search for adequate support verbs in Polish requires an in-depth semantic analysis to grasp the differences in meaning and usage. To do this, the methodology of grammar based on combinatorial semantics has been applied aided by a study of aspectual senses and phraseology linked to support verbs in both the languages.

Le thème de notre contribution,  conçue dans la perspective de la grammaire de construction, est à la fois contrastif et diachronique. Nous nous intéressons, après beaucoup d’autres linguistes, au comportement syntaxique des verbes d’un certain groupe constitué selon des critères sémantiques : les verbes de perception (entendre, voir, etc.). Contrairement à notre attente, les possibilités syntaxiques de ces verbes ne sont pas identiques. Ainsi, il apparaît rapidement que le verbe observer a tendance à faire bande à part. Nous essayerons, d’une part, de comprendre les raisons de ce statut spécial, d’autre part, de voir dans quelle mesure l’acceptabilité de la phrase avec observer peut être améliorée par une action sur d’autres paramètres de la phrase. Cette recherche nous permet d’identifier le rôle important d’un facteur que la rhétorique classique appelait evidentia.
This paper explores perception verbs (like ‘hear’ and ‘see’) from a construction grammar perspective, with a focus on both contrastive and diachronic aspects. Surprisingly, our corpus analysis suggests that different verbs from this semantic groups do not display a homogeneous syntactic behaviour. For example the verb ‘observer’ stands out from other verbs in this group. We attempt to account for the special status of ‘observer’ and discuss the extent to which the acceptability of sentences featuring ‘observer’ can be improved by acting on certain parameters in the sentence. Our research highlights the role of a factor referred to as evidentia in classical rhetoric.

This paper investigates an attempt to apply a corpus analysis to the development of the intercultural approach to foreign language teaching through the semantic analysis of cultural keywords. Our analysis will specifically include the process of discovering the meaning of the three words: French politesse and its Polish equivalents — grzeczność and uprzejmość through their collocations collected in French and Polish corpora. As a result, firstly, we came up with a conclusion that the French word politesse is characterized by more positive semantic prosody than its Polish equivalents. Secondly, politesse appears more frequently in coordinate collocations with nouns conveying aesthetical meaning, whereas the Polish word uprzejmość is more frequently used with nouns designating ethical features. The principles of our methodology or some data used in our research can inspire the introduction of an inductive lexical approach in foreign language teaching to facilitate the conceptualization of complex cultural notions, which is the essential of the intercultural teaching.

This paper aims to examine the use of inclusive French in the Internet publications of Paris universities on their social media. Three higher education institutions were selected: Paris Dauphine-PSL University, Gustave Eiffel University, and Sorbonne Paris North University. The publications were obtained from Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. Firstly, the groups of people to whom the use of inclusive French referred were considered. The second question was about the practices used to make the French language inclusive. Eight practices were observed and are described in the paper.
