Opis:
The main objective of this paper is to represent the hierarchical structure of an environment by using two concepts: typology and regionalization. The Płock Region (1,766.95 sq. km) and transect crossing this area (796.2 sq. km) is the research location. It was divided into 710 individual landscape units (319 in the transect border). The existing physical-geographical regionalization, including macro-, meso- and micro-regions, was elaborated using a deductive (top-down) method, which was supplemented by a more detailed regionalization, obtained by an inductive (bottom-up) method called analysis of borders (Richling 1976). The study area was divided into more detailed sub-regions: first-level regions (87 units), second-level regions (36 units) and third-level regions (9 units). In fact, the landscape structure of third-level regions is similar to micro-regions. This is proof of the complementary nature of the two approaches – deductive and inductive regionalization, and the hierarchical landscape structure.

Opis:
The problem of width of landscape boundary remains widely discussed from more then one century. The author attempts to describe a width of some landscape boundaries of a higher rank by describing the mosaic of a lower rank landscape units. The research was realised within upland landscape of Nida Basin and lowland landscape of Wigry National Park.

Opis:
The aim of the study was to determine the demographic types of all small cities in Poland in 2013 and to identify the standards of their spatial diversity. The following questions were posed: Which demographic types are dominant among the small cities of Poland? Is there a relation between a specific demographic type and the size of the city? Does the structure of small cities according to their demographic types relate to their distance from main roads and urban agglomerations? The study applied the Webb’s typology, the K. Doi leading element method, the departure from average indicator, and the nonparametric Chi squared test. The spatial regularities were identified based on the created maps. The results of the study show that small cities of Poland in 2013 were represented by all demographic types, but most of them were regressive. They were established in 80% of small cities. The main element determining the population trends of small cities was the negative migration balance, which was observed in 80% of the surveyed areas. It was also established that the population of small cities has a slight impact on population trends. The most important aspect of their development is the distance from agglomerations and main roads.

This paper is devoted to typology as the basie method of landscape research. The first p a rt shows the cognitive, educational and practical roles of landscape typology models. Second p art presents a new method of creating a universal model, independent of the charting scalę. The resu lts of the paper confirm the feasibility of creating a reference base of E a rth 's landscapes and indicate the necessity to an in ternational discussion on this topie. Opis:
The practical problems of implementing the Regulation on Landscape Audits (European Landscape Convention, ELC) in Poland are discussed through the topic of landscape relief, on an example of landscape classification of three of Poland’s landscape parks. In the existing landscape typologies, various criteria are proposed, in which relief is usually considered to be one of the leading components. The study was carried out for the purposes of the Landscape Parks Conservation Plans, based on a comparison of the method under the Principles of Landscape Audits and the authors’ method. The results indicate that the landscape types set out in the regulation insufficiently take relief into account, leading to omitting the local specific nature of the terrain. The essential attributes of the terrain in the analysed parks are the morphometry of relief and its genesis. Relief helps to determine the landscape types that are more related to the terrain.

Opis:
The purpose of this study was to obtain and verify the methods of catchment regionalization for annual maximum discharge. An identification of Polish rivers was performed based on regional frequency analyses including recognition of regions homogeneous with respect to their physical properties and river flow parameters. The results suggest a division into two regional groups: mountain and lowland catchments. Statistical tests verify the regionalization obtained and allow to calculate regional probability curves for these two catchment groups. The results obtained may be helpful in the analysis of floods in ungauged catchments and in those where hydrological observations were performed during a short period, especially when the dependence of the maximum probable flows on their physico-geographical features in catchments under analysis has been proved.
