    The article presents results of the archaeological excavations conducted at a Pomeranian culture cemetery in Żakowo, site 3, Sulęczyno commune, Pomeranian Voivodship in 2014–2015. During this time, three barrows and two stone structures were excavated. Barrow V/2014 had the most elaborate form. Its base consisted of a four-layered stone rim 5.8 meters in diameter. Cremation burial of two people was found inside.

    Abstract: The article presents the fate of archaeological artefacts from former collection of Pommersches Landesmuseum in Szczecin evacuated during the Second World War to the village Mołtowo, part of which (503 specimens) were found in 2016. Based on the history of Szczecin museum collection, the authors present in detail the circumstances of the objects recovery. The enclosed catalogue includes all archaeological artefacts transferred to von Braunschweig residence near Kołobrzeg.

    Abstract: In West Pomerania during the 13th century a series of settlement transformations took place. They left their traces in the appearance, social and economic relations of individual centres and of the whole region. One of many villages of medieval origins in West Pomerania, formed during the mass colonization action was Będargowo, a small oval square village located approximately 8 km to the south-west of Szczecin. The layers and artefacts (pottery, window panes fragments, bits of brick and scorched clay, animal bones and an arrowhead) discovered there during excavations in 2012, associated with the medieval settlement, should be dated to the period from the mid-13th to the 16th century. In the light of written sources the village all this time was related to the patrician family Wussow, who played a considerable role in the formation of the German municipality in Szczecin. Presented finds are a valuable source for reflection on all historical and archaeological issues of medieval Pomeranian village.

    Together with a brief history of Pyrzyce and the Franciscan monastery, anthropological, paleopathological and demographic analysis is presented of skeletons discovered in the ruins of the church adjacent to the monastery and likely to date to the 17th century. The location of the skeletons – most of them were in a shared grave and with a distinctive distribution of age at death of individuals (Tab. 1) – suggests that the dead were buried in haste, probably during an epidemic or an armed conflict. Because of a bad state of the preservation of the human remains, it can only be stated that most males have short skulls, medium broad faces, broad noses and low orbits, whereas females’ skulls are in majority medium long (Tab. 2, 3). Differences in males and females body height correspond to those that are generally stated in other historical human populations (Tab. 4, 5). Health condition examined individuals is hard to determine (Tab. 6) – for 31 skeletons pathological changes could be identified in ten cases. As in the majority of burial sequences, e.g. those from Eastern Pomerania, degenerative and inflammatory lesions are in majority. In addition rare cases of developmental anomalies and post-traumatic lesions occurred. On the basis of the results obtained, it can be assumed that, with regard to some morphological features and diseases, people from Pyrzyce differed slightly from people who lived in other parts of Pomerania.

    Abstract: The article presents the results of the research on the Pomeranian culture pottery finds from site 4 in Miechęcino, Kołobrzeg district. The main goal of the article is to attempt to identify the stratigraphical relationship between grave 159 and feature 26 (the one containing a sword of the XVIII B type according to J. Fogel). For this reason the authors analysed pottery finds from both features using archaeological and physicochemical methods (X-ray fluorescence and thermogravimetric analyses).

    Abstract: Results of the metallurgy study on three, two-edged swords from a cremation burial ground in Czelin, representing the Pompeii, Lachmirowice-Apa and Vimose-Illerup types indicate a variability in the material used as well as in technique of their production, and thus in the quality of the specimens. Two of them were made of a single piece of metal with low (specimen of the Lachmirowice-Apa type) or medium quality (specimen of the Pompeii type). A much higher level of craftsmanship is represented by the third sword of the Vimose-Illerup type, precisely forged from several pieces of diverse, high-quality material, representing the so-called pattern welding technique.
