- The magnetic force ripples in a permanent magnet tubular linear motor (PMTLM) have been considered in the paper. A field modeling has been carried out for the linear motors with different phase numbers. The presented calculations have been carried out using the finite element method including real characteristics of the magnetic materials. The motor construction differs from the others by magnetic separation of the stator winding segments. Because of the modular design, it is simple for manufacturing. Moreover, the actuators with different phase numbers can be made using the standard components. The obtained results yields, that increasing phase number cause a lower force ripples, which is very favorable to precision machines e.g. CNC. Because the power electronic components get cheaper, the cost problem is not decisive. In the most applications, where the high precision is demand, the multiphase linear motors can be used.
