    The subject of the article is a role of metaphor in Józef Tischner’s philosophy. In late seventies he shaped an idea of „thinking within metaphor”, which was an essential modification of phenomenological method Tischner used before. Metaphorizing is not only an unliterally language expression, but also the metaphysical statement, that the world an human experience cannot be described in strict concepts. Metaphors and symbols have their own logic and hermeneutics, which shows their inner tensions. I proposed a new approach to Tischner philosophy, which allows unveil this „life of metaphor”.

    In the present research paper I focus on the issues concerned with the perspective adopted by Rev. Józef Tischner in his review of Leszek Kołakowski’s life and philosophical work. I demonstrate – which is the main purpose of the paper – that this perspective is determined by the Tischnerian discovery of the so-called “basic conviction” in Kołakowski’s writings. Such a conviction was of crucial significance for his philosophical apologetics of Marxism as well as his radical criticism of the Church, and communism founded on Marxism. As Józef Tischner poses the question about the “basic conviction,” he proves that in Kołakowski’s philosophy from the beginning it centres around ethical issues, and in particular the idea of human rights. It is in these that Tischner discerns the central theme in Leszek Kołakowski’s philosophy. In this way Tischner paints a picture of Kołakowski as a philosopher of actually one thought which matures in his work at various levels, but above all at the level of understanding of man, religion and the Church.

    The present text addresses one of the stages of the controversy over grace and freedom originated by Pelagius and Saint Augustine. The protagonists of this stage are Leszek Kołakowski and Józef Tischner. As he was reconstructing the 17th-century debates between Jansenists and Molinists, Kołakowski posed a question about the relevance in: of this controversy for the contemporary times. Tischner, as he was critical of Kołakowski’s views, put forward his own solution to the problem of grace and freedom, which was in line with the thought of Saint Augustine. In the present text I place Tischner’s dispute with Kołakowski against the backdrop of earlier stages of the controversy, and I discuss the views held by both the thinkers. I also attempt to resolve this dispute and point to its significance for the philosophy of education and the philosophy of politics.

    W niniejszym opracowaniu koncentruję się na problematyce perspektywy, z jakiej ks. Józef Tischner patrzy na dzieło filozoficzne i życie Leszka Kołakowskiego. Wykazuję, i to jest główny cel artykułu, że ta perspektywa wyznaczona jest przez Tischnerowskie odkrycie tzw. „przeświadczenia podstawowego” w pismach Kołakowskiego. Takie przeświadczenie miało decydujące znaczenie zarówno dla jego filozoficznej apologetyki marksizmu, jak również dla jego radykalnej krytyki Kościoła i ufundowanego na marksizmie komunizmu. Stawiając pytanie o „przeświadczenie podstawowe”, Józef Tischner uzasadnia, że w filozofii Kołakowskiego od początku ogniskuje się ono wokół problematyki etycznej, w szczególności w wokół idei praw człowieka. To w niej Tischner dostrzega kluczowy wątek filozofii Leszka Kołakowskiego. W ten sposób Tischner kreśli obraz Kołakowskiego jako filozofa właściwie jednej myśli, która dojrzewa w jego twórczości na różnych poziomach, przede wszystkim zaś na poziomie rozumienia człowieka, religii i Kościoła.

    Celem artykułu jest podjęcie próby interpretacji fenomenu wojny, wykorzystując wybrane koncepcje filozoficzne Józefa Tischnera. Interpretacja prowadzi do wniosków, że: (1) źródłowym casus belli jest odmowa drugiemu prawa do istnienia, (2) zło wojny polega na zaburzeniu relacji dialogicznej i w konsekwencji na emanacji zła na ziemię jako scenę dramatu, (3) zakończenie działań wojennych na scenie dramatu nie gwarantuje trwałego pokoju – potrzeba jeszcze odbudować relację dialogiczną. 
    The aim of this article is to try to interpret the phenomenon of war using selected philosophical concepts of Józef Tischner. The interpretation leads to the conclusion that: (1) the source of the casus belli is the denial of the other’s right to exist, (2) the evil of war consists in disturbing the dialogical relationship and, consequently, in the emanation of this evil into the world as a drama stage, (3) the end of warfare on the drama stage it does not guarantee lasting peace – the dialogical relationship still needs to be rebuilt.

    Niniejszy tekst traktuje o jednej z odsłon zapoczątkowanego przez Pelagiusza i św. Augustyna sporu o łaskę i wolność. Bohaterami tej odsłony sporu są Leszek Kołakowski i Józef Tischner. Kołakowski, rekonstruując XVII-wieczne dyskusje między jansenistami i molinistami, stawiał pytanie o znaczenie tego sporu dla współczesności. Tischner, krytykując poglądy Kołakowskiego, proponował własne, idące śladem myśli św. Augustyna, rozwiązanie problemu łaski i wolności. W niniejszym tekście umieszczam spór Tischnera z Kołakowskim na tle starszych odsłon sporu i omawiam poglądy obu myślicieli. Podejmuję także próbę rozstrzygnięcia tego sporu oraz wskazuję jego znaczenie dla filozofii wychowania i filozofii polityki.

    The article is an analysis of how the concept of participation functions in the philosophy of drama by Józef Tischner. I begin by saying that this is the basic concept of this philosophy. Tischner gives two basic meanings of the drama using the concept of participation and then uses this concept very often. In my analysis, I observe how Tischner uses this concept, I investigate who participates and in what they participate, and I also reconstruct the structure of this participation. As a result it is revealed that the specific understanding of this concept is related to other basic concepts of this philosophy, e.g. to reciprocity or horizon. It also reveals – which is quite a surprise – an egological component of the philosophy of drama.
    Artykuł jest analizą sposobu, w jaki funkcjonuje w filozofii dramatu Józefa Tischnera pojęcie uczestnictwa. Wychodzę od stwierdzenia, że jest to podstawowe pojęcie tej filozofii. Za jego pomocą Tischner podaje dwa podstawowe znaczenia dramatu, a następnie bardzo często używa tego pojęcia. W mojej analizie obserwuję, w jaki sposób Tischner je stosuje, badam, kto uczestniczy i w czym, a także odtwarzam struktury tego uczestnictwa. W efekcie ujawnia się, że specyficzne rozumienie „uczestnictwa” powiązane jest z innymi podstawowymi pojęciami tej filozofii, np. ze wzajemnością czy horyzontem. Ujawnia się także – co jest sporym zaskoczeniem – egologiczny komponent filozofii dramatu.

    Tekst prezentuje interpretację aksjologicznego tła artykułu 17. kodeksu etyki lekarskiej, w której wykorzystane są przede wszystkim elementy filozofii wartości Józefa Tischnera. Autor posługuje się pojęciami aksjologii, by opisać szczególną dynamikę deontologii zawartej w artykule dotyczącym sytuacji informowania pacjenta o niepomyślnych rokowaniach co do jego stanu zdrowia. Zamiast opisów powszednich sytuacji tego typu, czytelnik otrzymuje inspirowaną przede wszystkim filozofią Tischnera rekonstrukcję układu wartości i roszczeń, w którym znajduje się lekarz.
    The text presents an interpretation of the axiological background of Article 17 of the Polish Code of Medical Ethics. The interpretation uses elements of Józef Tischner’s philosophy of values. The author employs the concepts of axiology to describe the special dynamics of deontology contained in Article 17, which refers to the situation of informing the patient about an unfavorable prognosis regarding his health. Instead of descriptions of everyday situations of this type, the reader receives a reconstruction of the system of values and demands in which the doctor resides, inspired by Tischner’s philosophy.

    Based on the achievements of the philosophy of science and some aspects of J. Tischner’s philosophy, the essay proposes a literary and philosophical model of the dialogue between science, philosophy, and theology. The model suggests a different insight into the history of science–belief dispute: the main issue becomes the recognition of the domain in which the given formulation of the problem in question can be solved.
    W oparciu o osiągnięcia filozofii nauki i niektóre aspekty filozofii Józefa Tischnera esej rozwija literacko-filozoficzny model dialogu nauka–filozofia–teologia. Refleksja prowadząca do sformułowania modelu pozwala na inne spojrzenie na historię dysput nauka–wiara: podstawową kwestią dialogu staje się określenie dziedziny, w której możliwe jest rozwiązanie danego sformułowania problemu.
