    The modern, global passenger services market operates in the circumstances of constantly evolving occurrences of competition and cooperation. In the interbranch transport relationships it is characterized by a variety of economic relations connecting market entities. The pace and direction of these transformations drive processes of globalization as well as liberalization and deregulation of this sector of services. Liberalization drives interbranch competition, whereas cost and political pressure stimulates development of various forms of cooperation. The article aims at demonstrating areas of competition and planes of interbranch cooperation in the Polish passenger services market with an example of sea, air and rail transport.

    Opis:
    The role of air transport in logistics and supply chains seems difficult to be overestimated. In recent years increasing amounts of cargo have been transported by air. Numerous high-tech devices, valuable equipment, medical products and appliances are transported by air. The main advantage of air transport is speed but also broad transportation geography, high reliability and security of goods supplies and continuous monitoring of cargo flows. Air transport can be organized in a traditional way, however there are also some unconventional methods to handle such transport processes. The RFS model (Road Feeder Service) comes as a response to the demands of the contemporary market of logistics services. Scopes: The subject of the paper is the presentation of an unconventional way of organizing the carriage of goods by air, presenting its attractiveness to all parties involved in the transportation process, as well as directions of its development. Methodology: The methodology of the paper is based on 2 dimensions: analysis and synthesis. The first phase included a thorough thematic literature review, analysis of case studies of Polish air cargo market. It was complemented by interviewing airlines representatives about RFS solutions. In the synthetic phase, the study provided conclusions based on the theoretical analysis and the survey of case study. Results: Results of the research shows RFS solution, involving transportation of cargo (commissioned by airlines) by trucks from regional airports to major cargo airports, referred to as hubs, and then transportation of cargo by air, using is caused by the necessity of increasing cargo transport efficiency by the airlines. It is also important to note the willingness of airports, both hubs and regional, to cooperate with air carriers in the area of air cargo handling in RFS model.

    This article focuses on the application of the queueing theory for the analysis of transport processes with regard to rail traffic. Selected aspects of queueing theory application for the analysis and rail traffic flow assessment are presented. A literature review regarding process modelling in rail transport using mass service theory models was performed. In order to study rail traffic flow, the application Java Modelling Tools- JSIM graph was used. The train movement process was analysed with regard to the traffic flow. The study was conducted on the basis of selected stretches of railway lines, numbers 2 (central long-distance in Warsaw) and 448 (central suburban in Warsaw).

    This paper aims to analyse the planning of chemical transports shift from road to the more complex multimodal freight transport, and presents a toolbox developed to support the participants in the process. In literature the research problem of multimodal freight transport planning is analysed mainly from mathematical models’ perspective. There is a lack of studies focused on multimodal transport chain collaboration and the tools supporting it. Within the framework of research conducted during the ChemMultimodal „Promotion of Multimodal Transport in Chemical Logistics” project, within INTERREG Central Europe Programme, the research team identified challenges related to modal shifts in the chemical industry, and next developed the toolbox addressing these challenges and supporting participants’ collaboration on multimodal chemical freight transport planning. The toolbox embraces: (1) consulting services, (2) planning guidelines, (3) the Intermodal Links platform, which suggests intermodal connections between two points, and (4) a CO2 calculator. Conclusions from the first pilot tests showed the necessity of a complex approach to the process of modal shift planning. Transport managers testing the toolbox the most appreciated the consulting services, which include a marketing platform integrating chemical producers and distributors, logistics companies, carriers, terminal operators, rail network operators and others. This platform is used to share information on current transport patterns, existing potentials, and possible actions to establish and promote modal shift.

    This paper presents an example application of a software program developed using the programming language VBA and designed for modelling queuing systems in the field of transport. The program enables users to quantitatively determine the indicators of the queuing systems. In order to show the program’s capabilities and how it can be used, two scenarios have been considered - modelling single-server and multi-server queuing systems of type M/M/1 and M/M/S, respectively, having a Poisson incoming flow of requests and exponentially distributed service times.
