Opis:
Investigations in to the intensity of soil erosion have been conducted by measurements of rill capacities on selected hillslopes in agricultural areas of North-Eastern Poland. The intensity of interrill erosion has been measured by using sediment traps. Owing to the interrill erosion, it is the convex parts of the slopes which have been eroded the most intensively. On gentle slopes (<9 degrees), the most intensive erosion has been observed in the upper convex part (0,3-7 t/ha/ yr.) and a zone of temporary deposition has been identified just below the zone of erosion i.e. in the middle and the lower parts of a convex-concave slope. On steeper slopes (those steeper than 9-10°) the upper and middle part of the slope are also part of the zone of erosion. The highest rates of erosion occur in those middle parts of the slope witch have the steepest inclination (3-11 t/ha/per yr.). Soil deposition takes place in the upper concave part of the slope. The rill erosion is the effect of ploughing parallel with the slope. The highest rate of denudation is in the middle and the lower parts of the convex-concave slope (3,3-16,6 t/ha/yr.). The areas of micro-catchment are a very important factors in the determination of the effectiveness of rill erosion. The efficient operation of the process was observed in the zone making 10-21% of the total area of micro-catchments. Rill erosion only takes place in plough lands. On slopes used as pastures the intensity of sheet wash was very small, averaging 16-58 kg/ha/yr. On slopes which were not in use and had a natural vegetation, it was only 2-10 kg/ha/yr. Volumetric measurements of covers at the bases of the slopes show that the thickness of the anthropogenic accumulation (either from run off or agrotechnical practice) formed as an agricultural diamicton is 40-100 cm in Suwałki Lakeland. In the northern pail of Mazowiecka Lowland these diamictons are thicker, locally exceeding 2,5 m.

Opis:
This paper presents results of geomorphological analysis of alluvial fan and gully situated on the slope of the Unisław Basin (Lower Vistula Valley) in Uść near Chełmno as well as results of sedimentological analysis of deposits in these forms. The gully and alluvial fan near Uść were developed in few stages which are confirmed by structural and textural properties of their sediments and by results of OSL dating. Studies have shown that gully was created in the bottom of the denudation valley from Late Glacial, that was deepened later in the younger phase of the Atlantic period (ca 6–5 ka BP).

Opis:
The main aim of the paper is to assess influence of soil erosion by water in the transformation of agricultural slopes of the edge of Wiśnicz Foothills. Low hills are typical in the morphology of the area. Results presented come from measurements of soil erosion by water in 2007–2009. Soil erosion took place during short transformation periods and was caused by events of high magnitude and low frequency during which soil particles are transported from the slope to the channel, but its supply was only local and episodic. In the foothill area slope and channel are weakly linked.

Opis:
As part of a field experiment to examine slope processes, four experimental grids with painted and numbered cinders were placed on the outer crater rims of two scoria cones in the San Francisco volcanic field, Arizona. Each grid contained 50 cinders placed in five rows of ten each. Rows were placed parallel to local slope contours. The mean diameter for each cinder was 1.7±0.2 cm (n = 200) and the average grid slope was 20.2°. Grids were set in July 1992. They were revisited one month later in August 1992 and again two years later in August 1994. Although several cinders failed to show any movement in the August 1992 survey, the average length of movement was 11.2 cm (n = 118). If the total movement is averaged over the 197 cinders that were relocated, the average length of movement then becomes 6.7 cm (n = 197). All cinders showed movement in the August 1994 survey and the average distance of movement was 32.8 cm (n= 141 with 59 missing cinders). The mean annual rate of movement after 25 months was 15.8cm/yr(n= 141). Using the convention that the 180° azimuth direction is downslope and perpendicular to local slope contours, the direction of cinder movement more closely approaches 180° with an increase in time. The azimuth directions calculated after just one month of emplacement display greater scatter and variability than the more correlated results measured after 25 months. The mean azimuth value after the 1992 survey was 163.6±54.2° (n= 118), while the mean azimuth after the 1994 survey was 177.9±20.7° (n = 141). Several painted cinders displayed upslope movement when the grids were first visited after one month. However, after two years the cumulative movement for every cinder was downslope from its original position. Non-channel overland flow is interpreted to be the primary erosional agent responsible for moving the cinders in the downhill direction. Rainsplash is interpreted to be responsible for moving the cinders in the upslope direction and is believed to be the major contributor to the variability in the azimuth measurements.
