    Artykuł prezentuje uwagi i uzupełnienia do książki Rafała Kubickiego o testamentach elbląskich w średniowieczu. Choć całościowo monografię należy zaliczyć do udanych, niezbędne okazały się chociażby uzupełnienia i sprostowania do danych biograficznych na temat pojawiających się w pracy duchownych. Nie wszystkie podawane informacje były bowiem ścisłe, poprawne i zgodne z aktualnym stanem wiedzy. W artykule zwrócono także uwagę na kilka pominiętych źródeł z zasobu Archiwum Archidiecezji Warmińskiej w Olsztynie, zwłaszcza na dokumentację poświęconą, szeroko opisywanej w monografii sprawie testamentu mieszczanki Urszuli Emyke. Drobne korekty zgłoszono także do dołączonego do recenzowanej pracy indeksu osób.
    The article presents comments and additions to the book written by Rafał Kubicki on the last wills written in Elbląg in the Middle Ages. Although the monograph as a whole should be considered successful, additions and corrections of the biographical data on the clergymen appearing therein turned out to be necessary. Not all information was accurate, correct and up to date. The article also draws attention to several omitted sources found in the Archives of the Archdiocese of Warmia in Olsztyn, especially the documentation devoted to the last will of Urszula Emyke, widely described in the monograph. Minor corrections are also essential in the index of persons attached to the reviewed work

    This article shows the life of a glazier from Elbląg Benjamin Herr (before 1642–1706), who settled in Warmia (at first in Frombork, next in The Old Town Braniewo). The autor, among other things, established the date of a birth/baptism of his son Franciszek Ignacy Herr, the future archipriest of a chapter from Dobre Miasto
    Znaczna większość druków z XVI w. Biblioteki „Hosianum” w Olsztynie, stanowią dzieła teologiczne, zarówno katolickie, jak i protestanckie. Są to zarówno znanych przedstawicieli reformacji: Erazma z Rotterdamu, Marcina Lutra, Filipa Melanchtona, Jana Kalwina, Jana Bugenhagena, jak i mniej znanych. Wśród przedstawicieli kontrreformacji należy wymienić: Johna Fishera, Johannesa Ecka, Stanisława Hozjusza, Melchiora Cano czy Roberta Bellarmina. Niniejsze opracowanie nie jest kompletnym katalogiem druków okresu reformacji i kontrreformacji w zbiorach książnicy seminaryjnej. Zostały w nim jedynie wskazane i omówione dzieła typowe dla tej epoki oraz – zdaniem autora – najciekawsze.

    The St. Nicholas parish church in Elbląg, currently the Elbląg diocese cathedral, is a unique building in every respect. Until today, it remains the most important element of the town and reflects its turbulent history. Since its erection, the church was an important centre of liturgical music. The paper discusses the changes in the organ instruments of the largest Elbląg church after the fire of 26 April 1777 until 1945. Their story has remained largely unknown until today. It is particularly surprising that no one analysed the issue of the instrument’s history in St. Nicholas’ church ever since it became a cathedral. The author of this paper intends to contribute to reviewing the history of the grand renovation of the church of St. Nicholas after the fire of 1777.

    Opis:
    The funeral epigraphic material of Elbląg and the surrounding area, relating to the period preceding the XVIth century, remains, first of all thanks to the researches of Polish epigraphists, relatively more explored and introduced into the scientific circulation array. At the same time the Renaissance-Baroque gravestone monument of the XVIth–XVIIth centuries, which is extremely important for the comprehensive study of the reformed Circum-Baltic, often continues to need a detailed research commentary. To the epitaph of the burgomaster of Elbing (Elbląg) Johann Jungschultz (1583–1630), as well as to the Latin text of the funeral Eulogy, associated with this epitaph, composed by the Bohemian humanist Venceslav Klemens, is expected to address in this article. The epitaph of Johann Jungschultz was established in 1630–1640. From the compositional point of view closest to the epitaph of Johann Jungschultz, and almost prototypical for it, is the epitaph of Edward Blemke (1591), in the St. Mary’s church of Gdansk. It allows to speak about the author of the epitaph of Johann Jungschultz as oriented to samples of the Dutch monumental tombstones of the end of the XVIth century, or even as belonging to the circle of Willem van den Blocke (circa 1550–1628), which was the principal mediator of the influence of the Dutch art in the South-Eastern Baltic in the end of XVIth – the first quarter of the XVIIth century. The compositional and decorative solution of the epitaph also has close matches in the works of Johann Pfister (1573 – circa 1642/1645 or 1648).

    Elbląg przed drugą wojną światową był dużym miastem, z rozwiniętym przemysłem i społecznością o charakterze robotniczym. W XIX w. szybko rozwijała się dzielnica miasta Kolonią Pangritza, w której osiedlili się ubodzy przybysze z różnych stron państwa pruskiego. Kolonia przez dziesięciolecia pod względem ekonomicznym i rozwoju infrastruktury mocno odbiegała od reszty miasta. Kumulowały się też na tym terenie wszystkie niekorzystne procesy związane z XIX-wieczną klasą robotniczą tj. analfabetyzm, bezrobocie, społeczne wykluczenie, brak opieki socjalnej i medycznej a nade wszystko bieda materialna. Duże znaczenie dla rozwiązywania tych problemów miało przybycie do Kolonii Pangritza w 1887 r. Zgromadzenia Sióstr św. Katarzyny. Zakonnice do 1945 r. prowadziły w klasztorze niewielki szpital, opiekę ambulatoryjną, przedszkole oraz kursy dokształcające i szkołę gospodarstwa domowego dla kobiet. Posługa katarzynek miała duże znaczenie dla rozwoju w Elblągu nowoczesnej opieki socjalnej.
    Elbląg was a large city before the Second World War, with developed industry and a working-class community. In the 19th-century, a district of the city called Pangritz Colony developed rapidly, in which poor newcomers from various parts of the Prussian state settled. For decades, the colony diverged sharply from the rest of the city in terms of economic and infrastructural development. All the unfavorable processes associated with the 19th-century working class, i.e. illiteracy, unemployment, social exclusion, lack of social and medical care and, above all, material poverty, were also accumulated in this area. The arrival of the Congregation of the Sisters of St Catherine in the Pangritz Colony in 1887 was of great importance in solving these problems. In the convent, until 1945, the nuns ran a small hospital, out-patient care, a kindergarten, and further education courses, and a domestic school for women. The ministry of the Sisters of St Catherine was of great importance for the development of modern social care in Elbląg.

    The paper presents battles for cities during the Mława–Elbląg offensive operation, conducted by units of the 5th Armoured Guard on January 17–26, according to the orders of Marshal Konstanty Rokossowski, who commanded the 2nd Belarusian Front, and Colonel General Vasily Wolski. The findings, based on the documentation of the Central Archives of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and related literature on the subject, present the daily battles for cities led by armoured units and their assigned support. The border territories they occupied, marching routes and combat operations are noted, alongside the problem raised by commanders of insufficient support for tanks with infantry forces. The article describes the occupation or capture of: Mława, Działdowo, Nidzica, Stębark, Ostróda, Iława, Morąg, Zalewo, Małdyty, Pasłęk, Młynary and Tolkmicko as well as the initial battles for Elbląg.
