Opis:
This paper proposes a model for estimating fatigue life under multiaxial stress states, based on critical plane concepts, taking into account the effect of mean shear stress. The fatigue life test results calculated on the basis of the proposed model are compared to the experimental ones related to 2017A-T4 and 6082-T6 aluminium alloy, S355J0 alloy steel under constant-amplitude bending, torsion and proportional combinations of bending and torsion; Ti-6Al-4V alloy under tension-compression, torsion and combination tension-compression – torsion. For the results obtained, statistical analysis is performed by comparing the calculation results proposed by Findley and Dang Van criteria with the experimental data.

Opis:
Based on the suggested multi-scale model of Local Approach (LA) to fracture, four main problems of LA are considered, namely: (i) the effect of micro-stress fluctuations on the crack nuclei instability; (ii) intensity of micro-crack nucleation and its influence on fracture probability; (iii) theoretical and experimental assessment of the value of threshold stress; (iv) stochastic analysis of “multi-barrier” effect at micro-crack growth in polycrystalline metal.
W oparciu o zaproponowany wieloskalowy model lokalnego sformułowania procesu pękania (Local Approach – LA) wyróżniono cztery podstawowe problemy do rozważenia: (i) efekt fluktuacji makronaprężeń na niestabilność jądra pęknięcia, (ii) intensywność zawiązywania się mikropęknięcia i jego wpływ na prawdopodobieństwo powstania przełomu, (iii) teoretyczne i eksperymentalne oszacowanie wartości naprężenia krytycznego, (iv) stochastyczna analiza efektu „wieloprogowego” na wzrost mikropęknięcia w metalu polikrystalicznym.

Opis:
This paper develops a cracked nanobeam model and presents buckling analysis of this developed model based on a modified couple stress theory. The Timoshenko beam theory and simply supported boundary conditions are considered. This nonclassical model contains a material length scale parameter and can interpret the size effect. The cracked nanobeam is modeled as two segments connected by two equivalent springs (longitudinal and rotational). This model promotes discontinuity in rotation of the beam and additionally considers discontinuity in longitudinal displacement due to presence of the crack. Therefore, this multi-spring model can consider coupled effects between the axial force and bending moment at the cracked section. The generalized differential quadrature (GDQ) method is employed to discretize the governing differential equations, boundary and continuity conditions. The influences of crack location, crack severity, material length scale parameter and flexibility constants of the presented spring model on the critical buckling load are studied.

Opis:
In the present study, research is carried out on deriving modified analytical equations for finding shear stress distribution and known as Modified Shear Stress models (SSM) beneath plain wheels (small and large) on TRI-1 lunar soil simulant. In all four models, the Reece model, Bekker model, Wong-Reece model and Iagnemma model, normal stress and shear stress are determined, and the shear stress determination is based on the Janosi and Hanamoto (1961) model. There exists ample scope for modifying this model. A modified model for shear stress distribution is developed and the same is discussed in this paper.

Opis:
Cyclic hardening and stress relaxation experiments of SUS316HTP were performed under creep-fatigue loading with tensile strain holding at 700ºC. Experiments revealed that under strain holding, the slow stress-relaxation stage satisfying Norton’s law with slight cyclic hardening followed a rapid stress-relaxation stage that was noticeably affected by cyclic hardening. This suggests that in the slow stress-relaxation stage, inelastic deformation mechanisms different from that of viscoplasticity occurred. Experiments were simulated using a cyclic viscoplastic-creep model in which the inelastic strain-rate was decomposed into viscoplastic and creep components that were affected differently by cyclic hardening. The simulation accurately reproduced the experiments.

Opis:
A new augmented Biderman model inspired by the modified couple stress theory has been introduced to investigate the size effect in addition to nonlinear material effects. Then, this model is used to investigate free vibration of a hyper-elastic microbeam. Classical Biderman strain energy does not include the effect of small size in hyper-elastic materials. In order to consider the effect of small size, terms inspired by the modified couple stress theory are added to the classical Biderman strain energy function. In order to provide the possibility of calculating these terms, a relation between the material constants in the hyper-elastic Biderman model and the linear elastic constants is obtained. The equations of motion of the microbeam is obtained based on the extended Hamilton principle, and then is solved using Galerkin discretization and perturbation methods. The effect of thickness to length scale ratio on the normalized frequency is studied for different modes. It is shown that when thickness gets larger in comparison with the length scale parameter, the normalized frequency tends to classical Biderman results. The results obtained are validated by results of the Runge-Kutta numerical method and indicate an excellent agreement. Mode shapes of the microbeam based on the classical and the augmented models are depicted, where the augmented model anticipates stiffer behavior for hyperelastic microbeams.

Opis:
Ductile fracture of low carbon structural steel (S235JR) at low initial stress triaxiality has been predicted using a method based on the Stress Modified Critical Strain (SMCS) crite- rion and the Gurson-Tvergaard-Needleman (GTN) material model. The influence of micro- defects on the material strength has been taken into account. The investigations, including tensile tests, have been conducted for standard cylindrical unnotched tensile specimens at low triaxial stresses. An advanced finite element method has been used to determine several SMCS model parameters.
