Opis:
Currently it is assumed that requirements of the information society for delivering multimedia services will be satisfied by the Next Generation Network (NGN) architecture, which includes elements of the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) solution. In order to guarantee Quality of Service (QoS), NGN has to be appropriately designed and dimensioned. Therefore, proper traffic models should be proposed and applied. This requires determination of queuing models adequate to message inter-arrival and interdeparture time distributions in the network. In the paper the above mentioned distributions in different points of a single domain of NGN are investigated, using a simulation model developed according to the latest standards and research. Relations between network parameters and obtained message inter-arrival as well as interdeparture time distributions are indicated. Moreover, possibility of approximating the above mentioned distributions using phase-type distributions is investigated, which can be helpful in identifying proper queuing models and constructing an analytical model suitable for NGN.

Opis:
According to United Nations reports, natural disasters caused, worldwide, approximately 100,000 deaths and affected 175 million people each year between 2004 and 2013. To reduce those numbers, countries around the globe have made specific arrangements enabling them to warn the population about imminent disasters, in order to evacuate the area in due time. But providing such warnings in areas where no Internet access is available poses a great challenge. In this paper, we proposed a method to transmit early warning messages via UMTS cellular networks, while relying on spare extensions of control channels (FACH). The results obtained are validate based on their comparison with theoretical considerations and are also benchmarked against the 3GPP standard. The results show that messages may be sent faster than with the use of the 3GPP standard.

Opis:
Public utilities such as water, electricity and gas are essential services that play a vital role in economic and social development. Automation of public utility services addresses the huge losses faced by the utility services today, due to non-accounting of distributed utility resources. Automation improves government revenues. The different type of architectures are proposed and designed for automated metering, control and management of public utilities like water, gas, and electricity for effective management and control of resources. The various network topologies, hardware and software architectures to automation and management of public utilities are proposed by researchers. In this paper, the different technologies proposed by various researchers across the globe are surveyed and list of issues and challenges for automated meter reading and control of public utilities is identified.

Opis:
Implementation of new services in the network requires appropriate methods and tools for checking correctness of interworking between terminals and exchanges. In this article the methodology and test procedures prepared for testing terminals handling FSK protocol transmitted over the local loop for display and related services was described. Methodology presented here is based on ETSI standards. Test procedures were developed for services offered in Polish network. Tests cover all levels of FSK protocol. For two lower layers, separate procedures for ^on-hook" and "off-hook" loop states were prepared. The procedure for "on-hook" state contains tests related to data transmission "associated" and "not associated with ringing". These procedures cover normal cases with parameter values and sequence elements complying with standards and exceptional procedures with the extreme values of the parameters and with modified elements of the sequences.
