Opis:: The realistic wireless channels face combined (time shared) Nakagami-lognormal shadowing and unshadowing fading because of time varying nature of radio channel and mobile user. These channels can be modeled as time-shared sum of multipath-shadowing and unshadowing Rician distributions. These fading create severe problems in long distance wireless systems where multipath fading is superim-posed on shadowing fading (called multipath-shadowing fading). The multipath effect can be modeled using Rayleigh, Rician, Nakagami-m or Weibull distribution and shadowing effect is modeled using lognormal distribution. In this paper, authors present a new closed-form probability distribution function of a Nakagami-lognormal fading channel. Using this result, the closed-form expression of combined Nakagami-lognormal shadowing and unshadowing fading is presented. The obtained closed-form result facilitates to derive the important performance metrics of a communication system such as amount of fading, outage probability, and average channel capacity in closed-form expressions.

Opis:: Communication platform systems as, e.g., advanced telecommunication computing architecture (ATCA) standard blades located in standardized chassis, provides high level communication services between system peripherals. Each ATCA blade brings dedicated functionality to the system but can as well exist as separated host responsible for servicing set of task. According to platform philosophy these parts of system can be quite independent against another solutions provided by competitors. Each system design can be different and can face with many computer systems design problems. One of the most difficult design problems to solve is system integration with a set of components running on different operating system levels. This paper presents Linux scheduler improvement possibility to make user space application classified as time demanding (required to be serviced by CPU in given amount of time) running in user space together with complicated kernel software structure in the system.

Opis:: Cardiac monitoring in the environment of the subject is one of the major fields of telemedicine. In this paper we present a prototype of embedded system for acquisition, storage, display on LCD or PC and transfer via GSM alarm warning in case of arrhythmias, which allows a great opportunity for rapid intervention of the physician. In terms of hardware, we have designed and implemented our system with a modular approach to facilitate development and debugging. Thus the system comprises three modules: analog module, digital module microcontroller-based for certain pretreatment, and a GSM communication module. Of course, there is appropriate software behind the material described. The system has the following features: low cost, ease to implement and versatility.

Opis:: The advantages of the introduction of information and communication technologies (ICT) in the complex healthcare sector are already well known and well stated in the past. It is common knowledge that in order to install any type of information system in healthcare, six main groups of issues have to be dealt with: organizational and cultural matters related to healthcare, technological gap between healthcare professionals and information science experts, legal requirements on the confidentiality of personal data, of patient related data and on data privacy, industrial and market position of healthcare informatics and interoperability complexity, lack of vision and leadership of the health care managers and health authorities and user acceptability and usability of the proposed information systems. In order to meet these issues stated above, a special focus group (Z3) performed an assessment of the situation of healthcare informatics in Greece and of the main key points that would lead to success. In that sense it is now common knowledge that Greece is lagging information and communication technology progress in healthcare because almost none of the above mentioned issues were dealt with. This assessment is the result of the interaction of more than 150 decision makers, medical informaticians, healthcare practitioners and other individual involved in healthcare. As a conclusion, this focus group resulted in 4 major propositions that will lead to healthcare informatics introduction with better success chances: focus on terminologies and standards, focus on interoperability and information systems sustainability, focus on clear goals and system metrics that can create a healthcare performance management cockpit, and focus on people and what they have to say, by creating a e-health forum. These conclusions were taken into consideration by the Greek government and are incorporated the IASYS project, the national healthcare informatics framework for the next ten years.

Opis:: Using a progressive information technologies for development of web-based courses and their administration brings a lot of practical and theoretical problems. We know web course problem is only small solution concerning construction of a large entire web-based e-learning environment. One of a practical problem is how to construct web-based electronic courses that have to meet international AICC standards. Implementation of such strict statements resulted in a lot of small or larger difficulties if we had used an elementary HTML editor. Using a special web course oriented editors can absolutely solve this problem. The second problem is construction of the web-based e-learning application that can administrate such web courses and takes into consideration AICC regulations. Development of such web applications is founded on the latest web technologies. This article introduces one approach to the modeling of the two most important components (web-based course, web-based application) of the web-based e-learning environment, convenient for Military Academy in Brno and Czech army. The article outlines the structure of web subject, e-learning environment and their implementation. The LMS's structure and its functionality, based on a snaps algebra, belong to important results of the article.
