Opis:
The industry pushes towards Smart grid systems in order to resolve current limitations of the unidirectional legacy power grid infrastructure. By introducing Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) as an integral part of the Smart grid solution, the utility company obtains an invaluable tool to optimize its network, lower the operational costs, and improve quality of service. Unfortunately, introducing two-way communication poses a security risk to the power grid infrastructure. In this paper the authors consider a Threshold Attendance Protocol (TAP) acting in a reverted security paradigm. Its main idea is to keep the network load at a predictable level at all times. To achieve that, TAP in AMI environment is embedded and the solution using real-life simulation parameters is validated.

Opis:
In preparation for the upcoming home delivery services that rely on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), we developed a new multi-hop radio network that is laid over a smart meter network transferring electric energy information only. In this network, a UAV follows, for navigation purposes, the topology of a virtual network overlaid on the physical smart meter network. We established a service management control method which does not rely on image analysis or map information processing, i.e. processes that consume precious power resources of the UAV. Instead, navigation is based on the routing technology. The current distance between the UAV and a node of the smart meter network is measured by means of the radio transmission loss value, therefore determining the position of the UAV. A two-layer network model has been proposed. One layer consists of a network of nodes in a residential area with scattered buildings – a location that is safer to navigate – while the other is an access network of nodes in a densely populated area. Then, we proposed methods to determine the direction of movement towards the next hop node on the data-link layer and the end node on the network layer, which is the target destination. We implemented a software-based test system and verified the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

In recent years, with the increasing popularity of IoT, the rapid growth of smartphone usage enabled by the increase adoption of Internet services and the continuously decreasing costs of these devices and services has led to a huge increase in the volume of data that governments can use in the context of smart city initiatives. The need for analytics is becoming a requirement for smart city projects such as city dashboards to provide citizens with an easy to understand overview of the city. As such, data should be analyzed, reduced and presented in such a way that citizens can easily understand various aspects of the city and use this information to increase quality of life. In this paper, we firstly present the context and the start of the design and implementation of proposed solution for real-time data processing in smart cities, mainly an analytics processing pipeline and a dashboard prototype for this solution, named My City Dashboard. We focus on high scalability and modularity of this platform.

Opis:
The resolution of a Direction of Arrival (DOA) estimation algorithm is determined based on its capability to resolve two closely spaced signals. In this paper, authors present and discuss the minimum number of array elements needed for the resolution of nearby sources in several DOA estimation methods. In the real world, the informative signals are corrupted by Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN). Thus, a higher signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) offers a better resolution. Therefore, we show the performance of each method by applying the algorithms in different noise level environments.

Cities are increasingly recognized for their ability to play a catalytic role in addressing climate and energy challenges using technologically innovative approaches. Since energy used in urban areas accounts for about 40% of total EU energy consumption, a change of direction towards renewable energy is necessary in order to alleviate the usage of carbonized electricity and also to save money. A combination of IT and telecommunication technologies is necessary to enable the energy and resources saving. ICT based solutions can be used to enable energy and money saving not only for a single building, but for the whole community of a neighborhood. In this paper a model for the energy cost minimization of a neighborhood together with an agent-based interaction model that reproduces the proposed formal representation is presented. Furthermore the authors present a prototype implementation of this model and first experimental tests.

Opis:
Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) system is expected to be used for real time load monitoring to optimize power generation and energy efficiency. Recently, it has been a serious problem that user’s lifestyle may be revealed by a tool to estimate consumer’s lifestyle from a real-time load profile. In order to solve this issue, Battery-based Load Hiding ( BLH ) algorithms are proposed to obfuscate an actual load profile by charging and discharging. Although such BLH algorithms have already been studied, it is important to consider multiple households case where one battery is shared among them due to its high cost. In this paper, a monetary fair BLH algorithm for multiple households is proposed. In presented scheme, the core unit calculates the difference between the charged amount and discharged one for each household. If the difference is bigger than the predefined threshold (monetary unfair occurs), the most disadvantageous and advantageous households are given priority to discharge and charge the battery and other households should charge to achieve monetary fairness. The efficiency of the scheme is demonstrated through the computer simulation with a real dataset.

A smart antenna with capability of beam steering in azimuth over a wide frequency band using only spatial signal processing is presented. Filters and tapped-delay networks employed in conventional wideband linear arrays are avoided by using a two-dimensional rectangular array structure. In this array, only constant real-valued weighting coefficients, realized with amplifiers or attenuators, are used to form a desired radiation pattern. In order to estimate direction of arrival of a wideband signal, the MUSIC algorithm in conjunction with an interpolated array technique is applied. In the interpolated array technique, a composite covariance matrix is generated, which is a simple addition of covariance matrices of narrowband virtual arrays, being stretched or compressed versions of a nominal array. A working prototype of this wideband array is presented. Its operation is assessed via full EM simulations and measurements.

Smart antenna technologies improve spectral efficiency, security, energy efficiency, and overall service quality in cellular networks by utilizing signal processing algorithms that provide radiation beams to users while producing nulls for interferers. In this paper, the performance of such ML solutions as the support vector machine (SVM) algorithm, the artificial neural network (ANN), the ensemble algorithm (EA), and the decision tree (DT) algorithm used for forming the beam of smart antennas are compared. A smart antenna array made up of 10 half-wave dipoles is considered. The ANN method is better than the remaining approaches when it comes to achieving beam and null directions, whereas EA offers better performance in terms of reducing the side lobe level (SLL). The maximum SLL is achieved using EA for all the user directions. The performance of the ANN algorithm in terms of forming the beam of a smart antenna is also compared with that of the variable-step size adaptive algorithm.

Shared care concepts such as managed care and continuity of care are based on extended communication and co-operation between different health professionals or between them and the patient respectively. Health information systems and their components, which are very different in their structure, behaviour, data and their semantics as well as regarding implementation details used in different environments for different purposes, have to provide intelligent interoperability. Therefore, flexibility, portability, knowledge-based interoperability and future-orientation must be guaranteed using the newest development of model driven architecture. The ongoing work for the German health telematics platform based on an architectural framework and a security infrastructure is described in some detail. This concept of future-proof health information networks with virtual electronic health records as core application starts with multifunctional electronic health cards. It fits into developments currently performed by many other developed countries. The paper introduces into the German health telematics platform and its tools based on smart card.
