Opis:
In the paper the market model for balancing communication bandwidth trade (BCBT) is analyzed in the form of multi-commodity market data model (M3). The distinguishing feature of BCBT model is that it assumes that market players can place buy offers not only for isolated network resources - inter-node links, but also for end-to-end network paths of predefined capacity, that is, every offer concerns a point-to-point bandwidth connection between a pair of specified locations in a communication network. The model enables effective balancing of sell and buy offers for network resources in a way which maximizes global economic welfare. The open multi-commodity market data model provides efficient and clear mechanisms, which support the environment of auctions and multi-commodity exchanges, especially when the trade is constrained by the infrastructure resources. Thus the model may be used in designing open information systems for market balancing and clearing in the context of multicommodity trade in various network infrastructure sectors.

Opis:
Context-aware computing is a paradigm that relies on the active use of information coming from a variety of sources, ranging from smartphones to sensors. The paradigm usually leads to storing large volumes of data that need to be processed to derive higher-level context information. The paper presents a cloud-based storage layer for managing sensitive context data. To handle the storage and aggregation of context data for context-aware applications, Clouds are perfect candidates. But a Cloud platform for context-aware computing needs to cope with several requirements: high concurrent access (all data needs to be available to potentially a large number of users), mobility support (such platform should actively use the caches on mobile devices whenever possible, but also cope with storage size limitations), real-time access guarantees – local caches should be located closer to the end-user whenever possible, and persistency (for traceability, a history of the context data should remain available). BlobSeer, a framework for Cloud data storage, is a perfect candidate for storing context data for large-scale applications. It offers capabilities such as persistency, concurrency and support for flexible storage schema requirement. On top of BlobSeer, Context Aware Framework is designed as an extension that offers context-aware data management to higherlevel applications, and enables scalable high-throughput under high-concurrency. On a logical level, the most important capabilities offered by Context Aware Framework are transparency, support for mobility, real-time guarantees and support for access based on meta-information. On the physical layer, the most important capability is persistent Cloud storage.

Opis:
Wireless networks provide all the functionality of wire-line networks without the physical constraints of the wire itself giving an interesting alternative to phone-line and powerline wiring systems. With a wireless network, physicians can actively monitor a patient's vital signs from anywhere in a hospital. HEARTS (health early alarm recognition and telemonitoring system) is a research project having the major aim to provide support for prevention and monitoring heart disease, based on advanced technology. The HEARTS idea is to gather biometric and environmental data coming from patients during both hospitalization phase and in their normal lifetime activities, using wireless networks. The wireless network and its composing devices are called personal health network (PHN). WPAN and WLAN technologies have been investigated, each with its pros and cons, for use in health monitoring activities inside hospitals and at home, for improving patient mobility, and to provide patients for "last interconnection hop" to the infrastructure network. Technological and operational problems have been addressed concerning bluetooth, IEEE 802.11b (WiFi), GSM/GPRS/UMTS wireless transports, all of them tested and some of them concretely adopted inside the HEARTS framework.

Opis:
The paper contains a review and analysis of evolutionary paths of seven most important, from network development strategy point of view, wireless communication systems, especially the WLAN operating according to the IEEE 802.11 standard. With respect to WLAN, trends related to evolution toward mobile network and self organizing network as well as toward integration of WLAN and GSM using GPRS are presented. Concerning WLAN architecture development, evolution paths toward distributed controlled network as well as centrally coordinated and controlled network are described. Moreover, analysis includes cellular mobile radio systems, wireless personal networks, wide area wireless packet data systems, satellite-based mobile systems, paging/messaging systems and cordless telephones. With respect to these systems, general evolution process and trends associated with this process are described.

Opis:
The paper presents modern personal services and new trends observed in evolution of wireless services. The article covers voice and data transmission services offered in mobile networks as well as information services delivered to users over Internet/IP networks. With reference to voice services, selected GSM services based on IN services platform, e.g., the services of flexible scenarios are described. Moreover, the status of VoIP service provided over WLAN is explained. Concerning data transmission services, selected UMTS services are presented as well. Among information services, presentation of wide scope of services offered to mobile users, e.g., messaging, location-based information, transferring text information, unified communications as well as Internet services, e.g., e-commerce, e-shopping, telebanking and micropayments is done. For both, voice and data transmission services, personal services are presented exclusively. Generally, the most attractive services with personal features are selected and described in this paper.
