Opis:
The resurgence of wheat stripe rust is of great concern for world food security. Owing to resistance breakdown and the appearance of new virulent high-temperature adapted races of Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici (Pst), many high yielding commercial varieties in the country lost their yield potential. Searching for new sources of resistance is the best approach to mitigate the problem. Quantitative resistance (partial or adult plant) or durable resistance is reported to be more stable than race specific resistance. In the current perusal, a repertoire of 57 promising wheat lines along with the KLcheck line Morocco, developed through hybridisation and selection of local and international lines with International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) origin, were evaluated under natural field conditions at Nuclear Institute for Agriculture and Biology (NIAB) during the 2012−2013 and 2013−2014 time periods. Final rust severity (FRS), the area under the rust progress curve (AURPC), the relative area under the rust progress curve (rAURPC), and the coefficient of infection (CI) were unraveled to infer the level of quantitative resistance. Final rust severity was recorded when the susceptible check exhibited 100% severity. There were 21 lines which were immune (no disease), 16 which were resistant, five moderately resistant, two resistant-to-moderately resistant, one moderately resistant-to-moderately susceptible, 5 moderately susceptible-to-susceptible, one moderately susceptible, and six exhibited a susceptible response. Nevertheless, 51 lines exhibited a high level of partial resistance while the three lines, NW-5- -1212-1, NW-7-30-1, and NW-7-5 all showed a moderate level of partial resistance based on FRS, while 54 lines, on the basis of AURPC and rAURPC, were identified as conferring a high level of partial resistance. Moreover, adult plant resistance was conferred by 47 wheat lines, based on CI value. It was striking that, 13 immune lines among 21 were derived from parents of CIMMYT origin. Cluster analysis was executed to determine the diversity among the wheat genotypes based on stripe rust resistance and yield parameters. All genotypes were grouped into nine clusters exhibiting a high level of diversity at a 25% linkage distance. There were 29 wheat lines resistant to stripe rust that were grouped into the first three clusters, while 4 high-yielding lines were in Cluster VIII. The susceptible check, Morocco, was separated from rest of lines and fell in the last cluster i.e. Cluster IX. Based on the results, inter-crossing immune/ resistant lines is recommended, and with high yielding lines − it is also recommended that cultivars with improved disease resistance and yield potential be developed.

Opis:
Method for determination of carbendazim residues in fruits, vegetables and cereals was described. The compound was extracted with methanol-hydrochloric acid mixture, and after liquid-liquid partition step with dichloromethane, was determined by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with column switching and ultraviolet (UV) detection. The average recoveries of carbendazim from fortified sample were from 68.7% ± 4.3% to 92.6% ± 4.5%, the coefficients of variation were from 2.9% to 6.3%, and the limits of quantification at λ = 279 nm were from 0.02 mg/kg to 0.2 mg/kg.
Przedstawiono procedurę analityczną oznaczania pozostałości karbendazymu w materiale roślinnym techniką wysokosprawnej chromatografii cieczowej HPLC z wykorzystaniem przełączania kolumn. Procedura ta opracowana została w celu wykorzystania w badaniach monitoringowych płodów rolnych i ogrodniczych traktowanych preparatami zawierającymi substancje czynne z grupy fungicydów benzimidazolowych: benomyl, karbendazym, tiofanat metylu.

Opis:
Arion lusitanicus Mab. has occurred in the region of south-eastern Poland for several years and is a dangerous pest of many cultivated plant species. It attacks primarily vegetable crops and rapidly spreads on the studied area. It most willingly eats plant seedlings markedly showing its food preference.
Prowadzone badania dotyczyły występowania i szkodliwości ślimaka Arion lusitanicus Mab. Na obserwowanym obszarze województwa rzeszowskiego ślimak występował wyspowo, w bardzo liczebnych populacjach i wykazywał tendencję do szybkiego rozprzestrzeniania się. Spośród badanych roślin największe uszkodzenia powodował w uprawach marchwi, grochu, cukinii i fasoli. Wykazywał wyraźną preferencję pokarmową w stosunku do niektórych gatunków roślin. Najszybciej zjadał siewki łubinu i słonecznika, a najwolniej peluszki i dyni.

Opis:
The influence of secondary plant substances - glucosinolates, alkaloids and saponins on the food choice by Colorado potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata Say) was investigated. Choice and no-choice assay with potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) leaf discs were made. lnsects' feeding was decreased on leaf discs treated with tested substances and it depended on the concentration of used compounds. Saponins were the most active as antifeedants against Colorado potato beetle.
Badano wpływ wtórnych metabolitów roślinnych: glukozynolanów rzepaku, alkaloidów łubinu i saponin lucerny na wybór pokarmu przez larwy i chrząszcze stonki ziemniaczanej (Leptinotarsa decemlineata Say). Przeprowadzono testy z wyborem i bez wyboru stosując krążki z liści ziemniaka traktowane badanymi związkami. Stwierdzono, że wszystkie trzy, badane związki wykazały pewne właściwości ograniczające żerowanie stonki, przy czym najsilniejszy efekt hamujący żerowanie wykazały saponiny.

Opis:
Basic Substances are a newly effective category of Plant Protection Product under EC Regulation No 1107/2009. The first approved application of Equisetum arvense L. opened Part C of Implementing Regulation (EU) No 540/2011, which lists the basic substance approved. Although E. arvense was described as a fungicide extract, subsequent applications like chitosan were related to non-biocide molecules. Consequently, plant protection product data were collected from research on alternative or traditional crop protection methods. They are notably issued or derived from foodstuffs (plants, plant by-products, plant derived products, substances and derived substances from animal origin). Applications are currently submitted by our Institute, under evaluation at different stages of the approval process or already approved. Remarkably, this Basic Substance category under pesticide EU Regulation was surprisingly designed for these non-biocidal plant protection products. In fact, components described as the “active substance” of most of the actual applications are food products like sugars and lecithin. Basic Substance applications for these foodstuffs are therefore a straightforward way of easily gaining approval for them. Here we describe the approval context and detail the agricultural uses of theses food products as Biological Control Agents (BCAs) or biorationals for crop protection. From all deposited or approved Basic Substance Application (BSA), a proof has been provided that non-biocide and food products via physical barrier or lure effects may be effective plant protection products with an acceptable low profile of concern for public and agricultural safety.
