Opis:
In this paper a new method of handwritten signatures verification has been proposed. This method, for each signature, creates complex features which are describing this signature. These features are based on dependencies analysis between dynamic features registered by tablets. These complex features are then used to create vectors describing the signature. Elements of these vectors are calculated using measures proposed in this work. The similarity between signatures is assessed by determining the similarity of vectors in the compared signatures. Research, whose results will be presented in the further part of this work, have shown a high efficiency of verification using proposed method.

Facial feature analysis is a basis examination in everyday orthodontics practice. Traditionally it was carried out using the patients photographs and callipers. Although the devices for scanning 3D surfaces have been developed since last decade of XX century their use in supporting orthodontics diagnosis have been limited due to availability and prices. The present work examine the possibility of usage of the 3D surface scanning for orthodontics purposes using professional graphic tool RapidForm. The landmarks-based analysis of facial features and asymmetry of soft tissue is described. Possibilities of surface-based analysis are also illustrated and their limitations are discussed.

This paper presents 15 texture features based on GLCM (Gray-Level Co-occurrence Matrix) and GLRLM (Gray-Level Run-Length Matrix) to be used in an automatic computer system for breast cancer diagnosis. The task of the system is to distinguish benign from malignant tumors based on analysis of fine needle biopsy microscopic images. The features were tested whether they provide important diagnostic information. For this purpose the authors used a set of 550 real case medical images obtained from 50 patients of the Regional Hospital in Zielona Góra. The nuclei were isolated from other objects in the images using a hybrid segmentation method based on adaptive thresholding and kmeans clustering. Described texture features were then extracted and used in the classification procedure. Classification was performed using KNN classifier. Obtained results reaching 90% show that presented features are important and may significantly improve computer-aided breast cancer detection based on FNB images.

Opis:
Recent investigations in neuropsychology and psychology of vision have proven that human eye does not get all the information from the surrounding world in the same degree. There are three classes of signals received by human brain. The more important one is the information about features such as corners, junctions, ends of lines, etc. Straight lines and edges are the second in the hierarchy of importance. And the last ones are textures they support the less important information about objects. Basing on these results, in image processing, theory of intrinsic dimensionality and related to it theory of feature extractors have been established. In the paper a survey of approaches that are used for construction of feature extractors based on intrinsic dimensionality have been presented. To carry out experiments the approach based on geometrical wavelets has been chosen and the software prepared by the first author has been used. Experiments presented in the paper have been performed on relatively complex images that had been faces' images. They confirmed that the information about the basic elements of faces (eyes, nose, lips, etc.) might be properly extracted from the face with the usage of the feature extractor. Moreover, the experiments have shown that in this way one could obtain the smallest possible amount of information, which was enough that human eyes yet have seen the face. Very promising results of experiments suggest that it is possible to use the proposed approach to face identification and recognition. Also some possible medical applications have been suggested.

The system using steerable filters for analysis suspicious lesions in mammograms is proposed. This system is based on moments and texture features. The set of well defined and classified suspicious lesions regions from mammograms database are used as a reference pattern. The similarity measure for reference pattern image and patient mammogram is found by computing the distance between their corresponding feature vectors. The Euclidean distance metric is used to finding the nearest class to patient feature vector what in result mark the automatically classify this mammograms.

This study examines the effectiveness of normalized Levenshtein metrics in the process of recognition of handwritten signatures. Three methods of normalization of the Levenshtein metric were taken into consideration. In addition, it was determined, which signature features are most important during their comparisons with the use of the aforementioned metric. The following signature features were examined: coordinates of signature points, pen pressure in successive points, and different types of pen speed. The influence of individual parameters of the Levenshtein algorithm on the obtained results was also determined, and the best method of normalization was selected.

Opis:
The paper presents a personal identification method based on lips photographs. This method uses a new approach to the extraction and classification of characteristic features of the mouth from photographs. It eliminates the drawbacks that occur during the acquisition of lip print images with the use of the forensic method that requires special tools. Geometrical dimensions of the entire mouth as well as of the upper and lower lips were adopted as the features, on the basis of which the verification is performed. An ensemble classifier was used for the classification of the features obtained. The effectiveness of the classifier has been verified experimentally.

Many signatures verification systems have been developed so far. Most of them have some common algorithms and solutions. The problem is that authors of the solutions usually present the final results of a working system. They do not reveal effects of the particular components. This is why other researchers do not know which element improves the results and is worth using. This paper shows how to estimate, in an easy way, if the selected component/set of data/feature gives good results.

To the control group 16 healthy adults were selected, from medical staff of clinics. All subjects were examined using pedobarographic equipment - Parotec System for Windows (PSW) [1]. Based on these observations several pattern solutions have been introduced. They concern gait disturbances descriptions in three distinguished neurological diseases. These findings extracted a new data from the PSW records and options with new diagnostic techniques, based on the gait characteristics observation.

This work presents the multiscaled version of modified census features in graphical objects detection with AdaBoost cascade training algorithm. Several experiments with face detector training process demonstrate better performance of such features over ordinal census and Haar-like approaches. The possibilities to join multiscaled census and Haar features in single hybrid cascade of strong classifiers are also elaborated and tested. The high resolution example images were used in detector training process.

The article is related to the computer systems security and to the problem of detecting the masqueraders, intruders who pretend to be legitimate users of computer systems, in particular. The research concerns computer user verification based on analysis of the mouse activity in computer system. The article presents an improvement of user verification method by introducing a new method of user profiling. The new user profiling method is based on the reduced number of features without the loss of information is introduced. The presented method of user profiling allows to simplify and speed up a user’s activity data analysis and is not causing the deterioration of intrusion detection. Additionally, a method of aggregating mouse activity basic events into a higher level events is described. This article presents the preliminary research and conclusions.

Opis:
In the paper we present quite new approach to the problem of human emotion recognition with use of face images. We assume that basic emotions such as anger, disgust, fear, happiness, sadness, surprise are expressed by face mimic. Face images with the well defined emotions may be performed using the method based on geometrical wavelets (beamlets) in order to extract intrinsically two dimensional features, the most important ones from the Human Visual System point of view. Such an approach can be successfully applied in extraction process of the most important features that are responsible for recognition of basic elements of face (eyes, nose, lips, etc.). The listed elements of face have a little different location that depends on emotion expressed. It has been proved experimentally that it is possible using very small amount of information extracted from a face image, by the so-called beamlet extractor, to recognize emotion with high accuracy. Very promising results of experiments suggest that the method should be further investigated and improved.

Opis:
Cardiotocography (CTG) is the main method of assessment of the fetal state during pregnancy and labour used in clinical practice. It is based on quantitative analysis of fetal heart rate, fetal movements and uterine contractions signals. The evaluation of the CTG signals can be made using criteria recommended by International Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Nevertheless, the diagnosis verification is possible only after the delivery on the basis of newborn assessment. In the proposed work we evaluated the capacity of quantitative analysis of CTG traces in predicting fetal outcome. The relationship between CTG signal features and attributes of fetal outcome was assessed on the basis of ROC curves analysis. The obtained results indicate the adequate predictive capabilities of the selected CTG features especially for fetal outcome assessed with Apgar score and suggest the necessity of applying the criteria for the CTG traces evaluation that are related to the gestational age. Our study also shows the value of the CTG monitoring as a screening procedure providing appropriate confirmation of fetal wellbeing.
