Opis:
Comprehensive testing of diesel engines currently requires not only a control system for the feeding system of the engine, but also a system ensuring precise control of its load and providing constant measurement conditions. Additionally, it is necessary during the tests to record a considerable number of operating parameters of both the engine and the loading system. The currently available stands for diesel engine tests, the so-called “engine test beds”, are standardly-equipped with special systems controlled using computer applications to ensure the maintenance of the assumed engine operation parameters. For compression-ignition engines, this most often takes place by control of the accelerator pedal position. In this solution, the engine is controlled by the engine controller, which controls the fuel charge based on the measurement of the rotational speed and the accelerator pedal position depending on the assumed control algorithm. The shortcoming of this solution is no possibility of controlling selected fuel feeding parameters, such as fuel pressure or the injection advance angle. This paper presents preliminary tests on an integrated control system for both engine load and the parameters of fuel fed to a compression-ignition engine. The developed control system enables engine test bed control, which, depending on the measurement variant, ensures the maintenance of a constant rotational speed or a constant engine load as well as control of the Common Rail system actuators.

An object of the paper are test results of the lube oil consumption in reference to two versions of standard and novel pistons worked out within the framework of the project of developmental No. O R00 0052 05 under the title "The elaboration of the modern technology of composite materials of the novel generation to uses on the pistons of combustion engines to military uses". The project was coordinated by Institute of Aviation; a project manager was Antoni Jankowski. Unique properties, which are characterized by worked out novel material, mainly high hardness and strength, the low hysteresis and coefficient of thermal expansion ....create many novel opportunities. As one of essential evaluation criteria of the novel piston, is lube oil consumption what is the object of the paper. The researches of the pistons were performed in WOLA S12-U engine. Novel solution of the pistons lets on the optimization of the shape of the piston and decreasing of the clearances between piston and cylinder. This causes decreasing of the lube oil consumption, decreasing of blowthroughs to the crank case, decreasing of the noise level and the vibration and the emission level of harmful components of exhaust gases; the improvement of the durability and dependability of the work of the engine and the pistons; increasing of mechanical loads , the pressure increasing combustion , and to the same opportunities increasing of the engine power and the BSFC decreasing.

Opis:
This paper deals with ecological aspects of using alcohol fuels in spark ignition (SI) engines, determining ecological characteristics of SI engine for various fuels. The dependence of the emission of hazardous material-carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC), carbon dioxide (CO2) - on the number of crankshaft revolutions n, engine torque Me and the ignition advance angle teta was determined in the SI engine bench tests. The toxicity of the emission at idle running of the engine had been also measured. The purpose of the bench tests is to work out the characteristics of the partial speed, loading and regulation according to the ignition timing advance. The bench tests of SI engine were performed with the Pb-free petrol A-76 and its mixtures with ethanol ester-aldehyde fraction, using fusels as stabilizers. Aldehyde is a colourless liquid produced by oxidation of alcohol. Fusel is a colourless oily alcohol separated in the rectification of ordinary distilled alcohol. The test bench can estimate the torque Ms, when the revolutions of the crankshaft range from 83 s-1 to 314 s-1 (800-3000 rev/min.), therefore, ecological characteristics of exhaust gases can be determined. The impact of the temperature of the alcohol mixtures' exhaust gases that was lower by 20-30 centigrade C on their toxicity was investigated.

Opis:
Turbine jet engines maintenance (adjustment) actions are performed during standard ground tests, but they are used during the flight. It turns out that the characteristics of the engine determined during the ground tests from the input value "w" introduced by the engine control lever DSS are significantly different from those obtained from disturbance “z" operating in the engine during the aircraft flight. It is noticed, that improvement of the engine control state made by mechanic during aircraft ground tests may cause the deterioration of the engine performance, which is felt by the pilot. The article presents a method that allows determining the basic characteristics of the engine in flight based only on the signals measured during testing ground. This method is based on measurement the major engine signals n – engine rpm, p4 – turbine discharge total pressure, p2 – low pressure compressor inlet, mp – fuel usage, then the designation of synthetic signals y=n/p4 (which describes the engine output), u=mp/p2 (describes engine input) and further their own and cross correlation function. Next, the power spectral density functions of these synthetic signals were calculated. Power spectral density functions is a basis to determine the spectral transfer function HW(jω) (during the ground tests) and HZ(jω) (in flight) which are the basis to determine the characteristics (step response) of the turbine jet engine in flight and during ground tests.

Opis:
During exploitation process operation quality differences may be observed between each particular machine and occurring in exploitation of one machine. These differences result from deviations of realized service process. Turbine jet engine regulation process was realized during ground tests. However, due to varying reactions of engines to external distortions, such as rocket launching, air swirl from another plane etc. as well as lack of possibility of simulation of in-flight conditions on ground (e.g. by partial choking of air intake), a situation may occur in which engine properly regulated on ground may not present sufficient efficiency in flight. Hence, the necessity to assess turbine jet engine regulation condition in flight basing on its ground tests. Research realized on computer models presenting engine operation both in flight and during ground tests indicated that real possibility of engine in flight regulation condition assessment based on its ground tests does exist. As was also noticed, with known input signal “w” and output signal “yW” recorded during engine ground tests as well as input “e” and output “u” signals from regulator during given test spectral powers and cross spectral powers of signals Swyw, Sww, See, Seu may be calculated and thus HW transfer function describing engine operation during ground test and GR transfer function describing regulator operation during given test and hence obtain transfer function HZ describing engine in flight. This grants possibility of regulation condition assessment of turbine jet engine in flight using signals recorded during ground tests.

Opis:
The contemporary progress of automotive industry and transportation is determined to a large extent by the increasing environmental requirements, aimed at limiting the harmful impact of vehicles upon human life and people’s health. A crucial issue linked with operating vehicles is the exhaust gases generated by internal combustion engines. In order to reduce this hazardous impact upon the natural environment, the construction of the engines is continuously improved, electronic controlling is being developed for managing the course of working processes taking place in cylinders and auxiliary systems, exhaust gases cleaning systems are being developed, alternative fuels are being sought for and the possibilities of their optimal use are being examined. Natural gas is the fuel that is highly expected and hoped to be used more widely for powering internal combustion engines in vehicles. This article presents the values of selected ecological indicators of the Perkins 1104D-E44TA Diesel engine, powered by compressed natural gas and Diesel fuel (CNG + ON). For comparison reasons, the engine was powered with both fuels at the same time and then only by Diesel fuel (ON) in the same working conditions. Before the tests, the powering system control unit had been calibrated so as to enable obtaining similar values of torque while the engine was powered with the Diesel fuel only and with both CNG and ON while working with external speed characteristics; the calibration was also set up to allow for the maximum share of the natural gas in the total fuel amount supplied into the engine cylinders without engine knocking. When powering the engine with both CNG and Diesel fuel, the concentration levels of nitric oxides and carbon dioxide in exhaust gases were lower. However, the total content of hydrocarbons in the exhaust gases grew multiple times, and the content of the carbon monoxide was significantly increased. In addition, the obtained measurement results of the smokiness of the exhaust gases and the content of the soot with the engine powered with two fuels were not satisfactory.

Opis:
Friction in condition of boundary lubrication (boundary friction, friction in boundary layers) has a fundamental meaning for non-failure work of friction of machines and systems. Very often in real working test condition kinematics knots work outside optimum its operational durability and reliability, range of lubrication so-called fluid friction. Analysis of many scientific research works concerning estimation of current quality of the motor oil in any phase of used time shows that information necessary to evaluate the procedure is based on measurements of normative refers to physic-chemical properties for ex .viscosity, contamination content, viscosity index, basic number etc. In authors opinion it is large mistake to conclusion about degree of serving its function in friction knot in working condition. There are many well-known cases (from point of view of physic-chemical properties) that oil should serve its function while it is observed increase wear its kinematics' pairs in consequence of deterioration of tribological properties. The article presents the results of the test tribological properties LOTOS SYNTHETIC SAE 5W/40 API SJ/CF sampled from ZI bi-fuel engine (petrol and LPG) in MT-1 machine. The tests of measurement resistance of boundary lubricating layer to break were done resulting from running-in period of tribological knot. During the test .decrease of resistance of boundary layer on break in initial working time (about 5000km) its increase in comparison with fresh one in all measurement range was observed. Such a change of tribological run testifies that in initial time in motor oil occurs running-in process. These changes did not cause directly to change of physico-chemical properties such as: viscosity. It can state only existence certain dependence between test tribological properties, basic number, and LUBRI-SENSOR index, which indirectly inform about polar compounds present in motor oil.
Można stwierdzić jedynie istnienie pewnych zależności pomiędzy badanymi własnościami tribologicznymi a liczbą zasadową i wartościami wskazań LUBRI-SENSORA, które pośrednio informują o zawartości w oleju silnikowym związków polarnych.
