Opis:
This paper presents the results of comparative research on basic physical and chemical properties of pure diesel fuel and two types’ mixtures of Camelina oil ester (Camelina oil ester content of the mixture was 10% and 15%) and diesel fuel. Application of these mixtures has different physicochemical properties to power supply diesel engine, made it possible to detect existing differences in the injection process (pumping and spraying). The analysis of the injection process has been defined through experimental graphs of the fuel pressure in injection line and registered height of the needle injector. With the knowledge of these two fast-changing engine parameters and loadvelocity conditions, there were calculated: fuel flow speed from nozzle, range and fuel spray disintegration time and the average critical diameter of the droplets. In the final part of the article it was shown, that the fuel with different physicochemical properties has a significant impact on the injection process. There were also made a comparative assessment of the suitability test compounds for use in service.

Opis:
This paper deals with ecological aspects of using alcohol fuels in spark ignition (SI) engines, determining ecological characteristics of SI engine for various fuels. The dependence of the emission of hazardous material-carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC), carbon dioxide (CO2) - on the number of crankshaft revolutions n, engine torque Me and the ignition advance angle teta was determined in the SI engine bench tests. The toxicity of the emission at idle running of the engine had been also measured. The purpose of the bench tests is to work out the characteristics of the partial speed, loading and regulation according to the ignition timing advance. The bench tests of SI engine were performed with the Pb-free petrol A-76 and its mixtures with ethanol ester-aldehyde fraction, using fusels as stabilizers. Aldehyde is a colourless liquid produced by oxidation of alcohol. Fusel is a colourless oily alcohol separated in the rectification of ordinary distilled alcohol. The test bench can estimate the torque Ms, when the revolutions of the crankshaft range from 83 s-1 to 314 s-1 (800-3000 rev/min.), therefore, ecological characteristics of exhaust gases can be determined. The impact of the temperature of the alcohol mixtures' exhaust gases that was lower by 20-30 centigrade C on their toxicity was investigated.

Opis:
Increasingly higher demands pnt on piston internal combustion engines arę aimed at reducing their harmful impact on the natural environment. This refers primarily to nitrogen oxides, particulate matter and noise emissions. The reduction in emissions ofnoxious components oj exhaust gases in engines is achieved by means of, among others, the use of catalysts decreasing nitrogen oxide emissions, particulate matter filters and oxidising catalysts decreasing carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon emissions. Common Rail injection systems make it possible to increase the engine power, and to reduce fuel consumption, exhaust gas toxicity and noise produced by engines. With Common Rail systems, the pattern of fuel injection process can be designed, consequently the combustion process can be controlled. The paper presents the results of test bench investigations into a compression ignition 1.3 Multijet engine with multistage fuel injection, which is manufactured in Poland by Fiat-GM Powertrain Polska Company. The tests were conducted at a stand constructed at the Heat Engines Laboratory ofthe Kielce University of Technology. The scope of investigations included determining economic and energetic parameters of the engine work, and also environmental parameters, such as the concentration of nitrogen oxides NOX, carbon monoxide CO and carbon dioxide CO2 in exhaust gases, and exhaust gas smokiness. In tests, the engine operated under speed conditions and it was fuelled by two commercial diesel oils that had different physical and chemical properties.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is to provide comprehensive bench testing results for small gas turbine engine with a strong focus on the flue gas emission measurements. After a short overview of small gas turbine GTM-120 design and working principles, the test bench developed at the Institute of Heat Engineering at the Warsaw University of Technology is presented. Capability and accuracy of the sensors used in test bench are discussed in detail. Data acquisition software based on LabVIEW is also presented. Five separate sections representing successive engine stations have been distinguished. Experimental set of data of pressure and temperature on all of the stations is presented for the whole range of engine rotational speeds. Additionally, the engine thrust and fuel consumption data is provided. Special attention is given to the engine NOx and CO content in the engine exhaust gas, since turbine engine emissions are of great concern due to their adverse impact on natural environment. Experimental results are followed by the engine cycle parametric study for real engine thermodynamic cycle. Finally, future work plans regarding variable combustor chamber utilization for emission reduction from small gas turbine are discussed.
