Opis:
The thermal management system is the one most important unit in the electric car which controls temperature of electric devices by obtaining a stability of their operation in different load and ambient conditions. For the other side the removable pack installed in the closed cradle for easier service during exchange of the modules should be cooled by the air. It is also better for safety during exploitation for the vehicle parts and people. The paper presents the proposal of ventilation of battery packs, assumptions of the battery pack cooling system, mathematical model of heat exchange and graphical results obtained from simulation carried out using the CFD program. During modelling it took into account two models: two-dimensional and three-dimensional for evaluation of the air flow and cooling rate of the battery modules. It was assumed four modules in one row of the cradle with total electric capacity above 4 kWh. The paper shows geometry of the whole battery unit with ventilation passages in 3D configuration. The aim of the work was determination of thermal parameters of the battery modules cooled by the air flow in the close chamber. The proposed cooling model of the cradle with air flow caused by fans in the pipe inlet shows that it is not possible to decrease temperature in the same way of each battery modules.

Opis:
Models of electrical energy storage devices – a battery and a supercapacitor – as well as models of motor and a control system, were used to feature the work of a hybrid electric drive system. The models were adapted to simulate driving with a given driving cycle, in a quasi-static method, with the use of MATLAB-Simulink software. The advantage of this method is that calculations can be done quickly and results can be easily compared. A battery model enables determining voltage and charge level in relation to load current and temperature. The basic parameter of a battery is a nominal capacity. It is a measure of energy stored in the battery, which can be absorbed within discharge time, in conditions of temperature and current. The energy can be absorbed until the minimal voltage is reached in the clips. The article presents simulation of calculations lead that the described electric drive model. The model makes it possible to analyse different concepts of steering the whole system already in the initial phase. In particular, the article presents PMSM model and trajectories of selected parameters during a trapezoidal driving cycle.

Opis:
A majority of ultralight aircraft is powered by the Rotax 912 ULS, which is a four-cylinder carburettor piston SI boxer engine. However, its power-to-power advanced aircraft is insufficient. This article discusses the examination of the Rotax 912 fitted with a modified power system and mechanical charging to increase the power of a base unit by 36%. This engine was developed as a collaborated project of the Lublin University of Technology and the AVIATION ARTUR TRENDAK & SON GmbH, a manufacturer of autogyros. Sources of energy in the Rotax 912 are generated with a generator integrated with an ignition system of a maximum power of 250 W at 5800 rpm and 13.5 V [1]. The technology of fuel injection and charging required us to apply control systems and to measure engine-operating parameters, which resulted in higher electric energy demand. Additionally, a mechanical pump was replaced with a more efficient electric pump, which also changed electric energy balance. The examination was conducted on the test stand of the Department of Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics and Aviation Propulsion Systems of the Lublin University of Technology. The measurement system consisted of the Tektronix TCP305 current probes and TCP A300 converters. Signals were recorded with data acquisition cards and the National Instruments Ni CompaktDAQ module. Power consumption was measured for the selected speed ranging from 2000 to 5800 rpm. The current probes were appropriately installed on power cords. The probes recorded respectively the power consumed by the fuel pump, the energy demand of the lambda sensor, and the electricity taken by the ECU. The data obtained was converted with the author's script in LabVIEW. Based on the results, the highest electricity demand shows the fuel pump. Furthermore, increasing engine speed and load results in higher pressure in the fuel system and consequently in the higher power demand of the pump. The pump consumes up to 89% of all energy consumed by the system. In the control system, the highest demand shows lambda sensor BOSCH LSU4.2 [4]. With the increase in speed, the exhaust gas temperature increases, which leads to less power consumed by the heater of the sensor head. The demand of the other measurement systems and actuators is less than 10.6% of total consumption. The investigation shows that the total power demand of this new system ranges from 63 to 73 W, which is from 24 to 70% of the total power output from a generator mounted on the engine.

Current engine technology for on-road vehicles allows us to meet the existing and planned future standards for emission. Because combustion engines, especially self-igniting are being used for very different purposes like: road transport, rail-way transport, shipping, industry, military and agriculture, these engines work in different and often difficult conditions. A very significant group of vehicles used for the most difficult of the a forementioned areas ofuse are "Off-Road" vehicles. For those vehicles we also use rigorous regulations to govern dangerous chemical emissions such as Tier, Bin and Californian LEV. In those types of vehicles the fuel powered systems very often use mechanically controlled diesel injection pump. These pumps are characterized by high tolerance to the quality and type ofpetrol as well as reliability, which is very important especially in "off-road" vehicles. At work a conception was described of system of powering the engine diesel which will let for reaching of future emission exhaust quality standards. In the paper only initial outline of the idea of the injection 's system for „off-road" vehicles, is introduced. This system needs follow-on in the field both interactions with the EGR valve, with the injection 's system as well as in the matter of interaction with ECU of the injection 's system.

Opis:
The operation of diesel engine is closely connected with controlling the process of injecting the fuel into the cylinder. It influences proper combustion process, which translates directly into irregular engine operation resulting in dumping and noise. It is related to improper control of fuel injection which is connected with improper completion of expected control strategy that can be a result of defective injection system. Irregular engine operation can also be caused by total lack of initiated combustion process in specific cylinder of the engine or in several cylinders, described as misfire, or ca be a result of differences in combustion process in individual operation cycles / engine cylinders. The effect is an engine working irregularly (there is instability of rotational speed) and emitting increased amount of pollutants. As a consequence the secondary fuel purification systems located in the exhaust system can be damaged. Therefore, it is required to choose the fuel injection control parameters in a way that enables detecting and correcting the process of fuel injection in order to minimize effects resulting from improper process of fuel combustion in individual cylinders or even lack thereof. It is useful to suggest diagnostic parameter that can be used to detect engine faultiness or elements of the accessories such as e.g. injection system. Ability to apply such control and correction of injection dose is provided by modified mechatronic in-line injection pump. The study shows results of researches on modified injection system with mechatronic in-line injection pump that enables identification of misfire and preventing irregular operation of diesel engine.

The energy consumption of the car depends on traffic conditions and the car characteristics, speed and motion resistance such as rolling resistance, the slope angle, wind speed, etc. Vehicle speed determines the energy consumption in the vehicle in the comparable moving conditions. It is necessary to perform the research in a number of tests corresponding to the different traffic conditions to widen the knowledge beyond that from type-approval tests. The article presents energy consumption studies of electric passenger car in both approval tests: European – NEDC, American – FTP as well as special tests, for example Stop and Go. The tests were repeated several times, i.e. for different initial levels of battery charge. In addition, tests under real traffic conditions on the big city streets have been conducted. The measurements were made on a Zilent Courant passenger car, produced by Chinese company Shandong Baoya New Energy Vehicle Co. ltd. This is a pure electric vehicle, which meets the conditions for qualifying it as a “pure electric vehicle” in accordance with section 2 of the ECE Regulation no. 101. Courant is a 4-seat vehicle, based on the version of the spark ignition engine. The vehicle is equipped with an electric, brushless engine of 8.5 kW power. Acid-lead batteries provide a nominal voltage of 120 V.

Fast development of electronics in recent years causes that the number of various kind electronic systems is still growing. This causes also that requirements concerning tests of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of whole vehicles as well as their electric/electronic subassemblies become more significant. In this paper, the most important requirements of international regulations in the range of EMC, i. e., ECE UN Regulation No. l0 and EU Directive 2004/104/EC, have been outlined. Moreover, results of investigations of electric field strength inside of three chosen vehicles have been presented. The tests have been performed, according to Directive 2004/104/EC, in an absorber-lined shielded chamber in thefrequency band 20MHz to 2000MHz and at the electric field strength in the reference point equal to 30V/m. The most important results of these investigations have been presented in the form of graphs of electric field strength distribution in various points of tested vehicles. Individual electric/electronic devices o f a vehicle are exposed to electromagnetic field with a very wide range of values of electric field strength - depending upon a device position in a vehicle, vehicle type and antenna polarization. Values of electric field strength inside of a vehicle may essentially exceed the values recommended by standards for immunity tests of electric/electronic subassemblies.

Opis:
The structures of modern traction vehicles are based on new generation devices. Technical progress within the field of power transmission concerns such elements as sources of power supply, electric devices and energy electronic solutions in power transmission systems. The prototypes of traction vehicles being currently drawn up are hybrid vehicles using different kinds of sources of power supply ofpower transmission systems, the most important of which are combustion engines, contact systems, supercapacitors (ultracapacitors), accumulators and fuel cells. Main engines are usually electric machines. In energy electronic starting systems it is permissible to use all kinds of main electric engines, for example, direct-current motors (inline engines, commutator motors with permanent magnets or non-commutator motors) or three-phase motors of alternating current (induction and synchronous). This means a complete change of rules in energy managing in a vehicle. Sources of energy can have the function of basic power supply (contact system, combustion engine or combustion cell) or the function of power supply support (supercapacitors, accumulators or fuel cell). New functions of drive operation will be available, namely, leveling of basic power supply load, recuperation of braking energy of the whole train set, driving at the temporary disconnection of basic power supply (short-term application of accumulator as basic power supply). Each of the above functions can contribute to the improvement of watt-hour efficiency of the system or to prolonging the range of driving. Therefore, it is necessary to undertake research on new generation power transmission systems. Research tasks focus on measurement of state variables of a drive, analyses of traction signals, modeling of drive operation in the conditions of driving cycle realization, verification of a model, drawing up a strategy of energy management in order to achieve the best watt-hour efficiency and the range of driving. In the article presented, sample results of researches on applications of hybrid power transmission systems conducted in various national research centers will be demonstrated. They concern both theoretical research (model simulation) and prototype research. The conception will be presented of a laboratory station for conducting research on modern sources of power supply and drives, which is currently being built at the Faculty of Transport of Warsaw Polytechnic at the Division of Exploitation of Tracking Systems and Electric Equipment in Transport.

The work presents the results of crash tests carried out with six electrical car models (from 2012-2013), with the weight of 1200-2300 kg (Smart Electric Driver, Mitsubishi IMiEV, Nissan Leaf, CODA, Ford Focus BEV, Tesla Model S). The results were published on the Internet by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (USA), and the tests involved a car travelling at the speed of 56 km/h, hitting frontally into a non-deformable (stiff) barrier, positioned perpendicularly to the car’s direction of movement. Particular attention was paid to the deformation of the car after hitting the barrier, so-called stiffness characteristics of the frontal crumple zone, and to the loads on the dummies placed at the driver’s and passenger’s seat (Hybrid III, a 50-centile man and a 5-centile woman). Results of the tests with electric cars were compared with the results of the tests with over a hundred of combustion engine cars with similar weight and type of car body (sedan, hatchback). The tests proved that, in the majority of electrical cars tested, the deformation of the frontal crumple zone after hitting an obstacle is larger than in case of similar cars with internal combustion engine. Because of that, the dynamic loads on the occupants of the vehicle tend to be smaller, as indicated by measured loads on the heads and chests of the dummies. The results may suggest that the frontal crumple zone may be better constructed in the case of electric cars, while the design possibilities regarding that area are limited in standard cars due to the combustion engine, which is not deformed during the accident, which makes it more difficult for the energy of the crash to dissipate.

Opis:
Regenerative braking and damping are effective approaches for electric cars to extend their driving range. A disk Faraday generator regenerative braking strategy integrated with controlled charging of a supercapacitor is developed in this article to advance the level of energy-savings on the car board. The kinetic energy of the car suspension during driving regenerated effectively to electric energy by using shock absorber is harvested and then used to charge the vehicle’s battery, the power electronics and the supercapacitor. One of the advantages of supercapacitors is their high power capability, which is applicable for high rate of charging and discharging operations like motor starting and regenerative braking of an electric vehicle. This article presents a new charging method for supercapacitors. Common for regenerative braking and damping chargers for supercapacitors are usually equipped with electronic PWM converter performing two states of operation per switching cycle. A simple open-loop control system is applicable for the whole charging state. The proposed circuit consists of a minimum number of components. It is free of stability problem and protects itself from being overloaded by supercapacitor with zero initial charge. Simulation results for regenerative braking processes corresponding to three velocity tests are included.
