The inner atmosphere of a car vehicle became one of the most important environments of human life. Many elements inside of a car cabin are potential sources ofvolatile organic compounds (VOC's) which hazardous effect on human health is proved. To estimate quality of indoor air of a car the qualitative analysis of hydrocarbons is very important considering the fact that some substances (i.e. benzene, acetone and xylene isomers) despite low concentration level characterize toxic and carcinogenic properties. A significant impact on VOC's concentration has vehicle cabin eąuipment and quality of applied materials. The internal sources of the pollution are elements of cabin equipment (textiles, foams, plastic materials), solvents in glues, paints, lacąuers and car cosmetics. The external sources of the pollution are pollutants emitted to environment in gas phase by mobile or static sources. This paper presents the results of the research which aim was qualitative and quantitative analysis of VOC's concentration inside of various classes of car vehicle cabins. The research was done in Emission Research Laboratory of the Division of Motor vehicles and Internal Combustion Engines. The analysis was done according to European standard (EN ISO 16017-1: 2006) on gas chromatograph (Varian 450 GC) eąuipped in capillary column and flame-ionization detector (FID). The paper presents theoretical evaluation of the effect of operating parameters on electric vehicle energy consumption and driving range. The objective of this study was to analyse the effect of temperature (at constant pressure) and traction properties on the energy consumption and driving range related to it of a chosen electric vehicle. The test methods assumed the analysis of parameters of the test object based on a simulation model. The evaluation involved a Nissan Leaf vehicle equipped with an electric motor, the torque characteristic curve of which was used in the test model. The values of basic and additional resistance to motion for the adopted conditions: external temperature and pressure-dependent air density, and vehicle technical parameters, such as its weight, capacitance of batteries, vehicle dimensions, type of drive system, drag coefficient and tyre dimensions, were determined. Basing on these data and the characteristic curve of engine torque, electric vehicle energy consumption and driving range were determined. The following relationships were obtained because of the analysis: vehicle energy consumption / vehicle driving range and external temperature, vehicle energy consumption / vehicle driving range and vehicle acceleration, vehicle energy consumption / vehicle driving range and acclivity slope. It was proven that the operating parameters could considerably increase the energy consumption and the driving range of an electric vehicle.

The so-called car "black boxes " — ADR recorders have been available on automotive markets for many years. The task of those devices is to record Information on car motion, driver's behaviour, state of vehicle systems and neighbouring environment. The records are to allow for accident reconstruction. In general, the devices being proposed are a simplified version of devices that have been applied e.g. in aviation for a long time. The problem is how those simplifications may affect the accuracy of reconstructions being performed. The simulation method of this type of research has been presented in this paper. A proceeding diagram, mathematical models of car motion applied in the method, records of ADR devices, an algorithm for processing quantities, recorded in ADR, in order to obtain reconstructed velocities histories and trajectories of car motion have been illustrated. A special attention was paid to a mathematical description of readings of acceleration sensors of ADR devices. An example of the experimental method verification has been presented. Then, three computational examples have been presented that focused on evaluation of influence of a number of quantities, being recorded in the ADR device, deser ibing vehicle motion. It has been indicated that missing Information on some quantities in devices, typical nowadays in automotive sector, may essentially affect the accuracy of car motion reconstruction.

In the article the author presents the analysis of persona! commuting vehicles produced nowadays. The analysis comprises their purposes, functionality, comfort and construction solution of the following elements: drive and sleering system, suspension and batteries. The evolution of a vehicle regarding the space necessary for its manoeuvres and parking is the essential parameter of the analysis. The concept of a city vehicle worked out at the Cracow University of Technology is presented in the further part of the article. The vehicle that has been constructed belongs to L6e category. In the article two concepts of such vehicle are presented - a vehicle for a single person and "a tandem " type of vehicle for two persons. The result of introductory tests of a function model worked out on the basis of a concept model is also presented. The function of the frame and its shape is to make possible for the front of vehicle to enter the back of the other one. Construction solution of this type also reduced the space necessary for parking. Two concepts of front suspension system - rotation axle and suspension with swivel axle were evaluated. Manoeuvrability and stability of rectilinear of rectilinear motion were taken into account. The results that were obtained make drawing conclusion referring to further development of such vehicle possible.

This paper considers the results of studies on examination methods in scope of environmental protection such as exhaust emission, fuel consumption and noise emission. The reduction of exhaust gas emission of modern compression and spark ignition engines requires an optimization ofexisting diagnosing methods as well as the investigation of new approaches. The results of car inspections regarding environmental protection for more than four thousand vehicles have been compared to the requirements of ECE regulations and those of particular car producers. Eight hundred cars with a fault of gas emission and fuel consumption were examined in order to define typical damages. The possibilities of diagnosing the damages of mechanical and electrical systems of the engine have been carried out using electrical value measurements and exhaust gases analysis. The test results show that there is a necessity of elaborating new diagnosing methods enabling to find damages regarding exhaust emission and fuel consumption at their initial stage. One of the possible methods which could be applied is the evaluation of the quality of combustion process considering the values of parameters of engine performance coming from the detectors mounted to the engine. The so far carried out examinations have revealed that some mechanical damages of engines such as operating wear or unexpected faults do not make the diagnosing system react to the information.

Opis:
Geometrical measurements of car bodies appear mainly in connection with post accident repair processes. They appear also independently in diagnostic measurements. Presentation of measuring systems is very actual in relation to a large number of car accidents. Diagnostic tests of repaired car body and restoring its nominal sizes are essential for safe traffic. The subject area is particularly interesting for service and repairing units e.g. tinsmith's workshops, but also for car experts. In the article, the methods of car body measurements will be characterized on the example of the use of simple telescopic gauges up to fully computerized electronic measuring systems. The examples of measuring card with basic points, being the nominal points’ coordinates, are presented as well as suggestions concerning the kinds of measuring tips ascribed to those points. Each card with basic points is characteristic only for a particular type of a car body. The examples of illustrations, with visible points on a car body where a prescribed measuring tip should be applied, are also shown. At the end an attempt of measurements' accuracy estimation will be presented on the example of one of electronic measuring devices.

This article presents the results of investigations regarding the use of on-board diagnostic systems to assess the technical state of automotive vehicles, and the possibilities of early fault detecting. The examinations were carried out in order to establishifit is possible to evaluate the level of compatibility between diagnostic test units and on-board diagnostic systems in over three hundred models of vehicles which were produced by different manufactures. The investigations concerning the influence of examination conditions, the type of faults and the vehicle age upon the results and reliability of diagnostic tests were carried out. The suitability of fault codes which were recorded in the memory of diagnostic system while the vehicle was operating have been determined as far as the recognition of the type of faults is concerned. Additionally, the examinations of engine on a test stand were carried out as well. Sensitivity of diagnostic systems was tested regarding the changes of work parameters of the engine. The faults of engine were deliberately provoked and were examined at the early stage by on-board diagnostic systems. The test results show that there is a necessity of elaborating new diagnosing methods enabling to find damages regarding safety in road traffic.

The main aim of this study is to carry out dynamic finite element analysis of a collision between shunting locomotive and a passenger car. Numerical simulations include side impact of the running locomotive in the vehicle situated across the track on a level crossing. A considered locomotive based on a popular diesel-electric shunting locomotive SM42 but it was slightly modernized in comparison with the original. Finite element model of the locomotive was developed by the authors whereas the vehicle FE model was download from the National Crashworthiness Analysis Center database and it was dedicated to the crash/impact analyses. FE analysis was carried out according to the PN-EN 15227 standard which provides crashworthiness requirements for railway vehicle bodies. However, additional objective of the analysis was to evaluate the behaviour of a small passenger car during the side impact with about 70-ton locomotive. A subcompact passenger car – Geo Metro – was selected as a representative for the study. One of the design collision scenario impact into low obstacle for railway vehicles operated on national and regional networks. LS-DYNA computer code was used for the simulations. The paper presents selected results of analysis generally focused on the locomotive frame behaviour. Contour of stress for the moment of time is presented. Moreover, time histories of selected parameters are depicted. The energy balance was also checked in order to confirm the accuracy of analysis.

The paper presents a certain approach to fleet management in the company, taking into account the mobility of employees and the selection of vehicles for tasks. The main objective is to indicate the factors that significantly affect the proper selection of vehicles for the task, as well as concurrently meeting recipients' needs. The general model for fleet management was presented, taking into account not only the mobility of employees but also the method of obtaining funds for the replacement of greener cars. The current approach is based on the car purchase model in the form of credit, low-purchase leasing, and supervision over the use process and operating costs by the company's internal resources. The problem solved in the article concerns the analysis of entrusting fleet management to specialized Car Fleet Management (CFM) companies. It was pointed out that in this calculation model, CFM companies have to take into account many variables related to vehicle selection and mobility of employees in order to perform tasks. In this article, particular attention has been paid to the areas that CFM analyses when choosing a vehicle for a given company.
