The paper is focusing on increasing both operators' safety and devices' availability under operation. Each process supported by any composition of the man-devices set it is possible to present and described by selected operation (exploitation) parameters, which can be a subject of monitoring. With use process operation parameters set the target-oriented production Key Performance Indicator has been proposed. Base on Key Performance Indicator both operators' safety and devices' availability analysis is possible in practice. Paper composition contains: solution description, good practice examples discussion and conclusions. Safety of man/ operators and availability of devices are very important for everybody and using preventive one solution we can increase and protect both. Additional process operation parameters monitoring, as well as measuring, are an important factors increases people 's awareness. Two different approaches of the same process have been described on examples coming from manufacture. The following approaches have been taken under consideration: traditional one based on reactive maintenance and new approach based on preventive maintenance. The comparison of both scenarios was discussed. For human's safety and dependability of devices, responsibility of all involved employees in practice is equal.

The article presents the selected elements affecting reliability and security of the telecommunications networks, which support transport services. In terms of telecommunications security, the selected methods and mechanisms, which allow providing the required level of reliability and availability of the telecommunications networks, in the fault-free operation and emergency modes, were discussed. In the article, attention was paid to the impact of a way of operation and maintenance on security of the telecommunications networks, and also on a correlation between the telecommunications system security and the security culture within the administrative and decision-making bodies. The telecommunications networks used in transport ensure the broadly understood safe provision of data transmission services. Telecommunications networks consist of hardware and software systems, and the data transmission security depends both on hardware and software. It is a set of methods and mechanisms, which provides a high level of the system’s reliability and availability by selecting the appropriate system structure.

The paper has been intended to deliver a brief introduction to the forecast on the potential military advantages for some selected aircraft using data from the TURAWA and SAMANTA computer-based systems for tracking aircraft operation and maintenance. The term "operational effectiveness" of a military aircraft may be read as a sum of effects gained from particular sorties by this aircraft. In the simplest case, the operational effectiveness is nothing more but the number of destroyed hostile targets. The number of destroyed hostile targets is a random variable. With account taken of hostile counteractions and unreliability of engineered systems, the number of possible sorties by one aircraft is also a random variable. Therefore, the assessment of predicted operational effects gained by the aircraft may result from, either: a single operational (combat) flight (sortie) by one aircraft or flights (sorties) within some assumed time interval (time of an air mission), or the aircraft's total lifetime (service life). Findings of the study may find their application in an attempt to use the data collected in the TURAWA and SAMANTA systems to construct rates of aircraft effectiveness in the forms of: expected value of effects gained from a single sortie, expected value of effects gained from some assumed time interval (flying time), expected value of effects gained throughout the aircraft’s service life. All the relationships gained may then be applied to forecast the effectiveness of operating some selected types of aircraft using data collected throughout the service, and verified under field conditions while performing exercises.

It can be assumed that at least some of the systems associated with the train traffic operation work in the “mission” mode, i.e. their availability and operational dependability are related to safe “move” of a train through the strictly defined section of the railway line, i.e. systems (devices) must operate reliably during “mission”. In the remaining time, operation of devices does not affect the safe train traffic operation. For example, it is possible to list crossing signalling systems or the GSM-R system, which along with the ETCS 2/3 system, constitutes the ERTMS system. In the article, the GSM-R system operation analysis, in terms of the above-mentioned factors, is presented. In general, it can be assumed that the GSM-R system devices (e.g. BTS base stations) should be efficient within the specific periods, i.e. during the train passing through the relevant section of the railway line. According to the authors’ calculations, it is stated that within longer periods, the selected GSM-R system devices (BTS stations) cannot be fully efficient, i.e. possible failures occurred and removed in these periods will not affect the safe train running.

The paper is focusing on known publications review concerning the transport device operator stress features and identification possible and their influence at man decision making process. The paper composition include: stress phenomenon analysis, human features and stress interaction analysis, human availability models including stress factors, and stress analysis tools analysis. Stress has been recognized as a major influential factor to affect the operator's health, safety, and productivity. Stress is subjective and express man reaction from external to potential reactions. The operator stress is often expressed as quality of life indicators related to satisfaction with a given domain of functioning and have influence at the human operation potential (health). Studies on the role of the state of mental and physiological functions are an important part of the theory of operators working reliability and a cause-and-effect relationship between the functional state and their availability. The review on known selected publications concerning the transport device operator stress features and others, including own research, helps to identify possible stressors acting at man and their influence at decision making process. The measure possible stress parameters: physiological, subjective and behavioural types have also been discussed. The transport devices' operator fatigue remains to be one of the important factors that contribute to possible accidents accompanying transportation processes. The problem of availability and reliability of human operators activities are today more practically oriented crucial and a branch of applied psycho-physiological research.

In this work, a method for assessment and control of availability of executive subsystem consisting of elementary subsystems of the type has been presented. The goal of the executive subsystem is to perform the assigned transport tasks over set routes, with a given frequency, according to a set schedule. A proper accomplishment of the transport task is possible only if the required number of technical objects (transport means) is prepared to perform the assigned task in a given time. Among many significant criteria used for assessment of a transport system operation there is one of special importance that is availability of the executive subsystem to perform the assigned tasks. Availability of the executive system to perform the assigned tasks depends on availability of particular technical objects (transport means) used in the system of transportation and their number. On the basis of the above statement, it can be said that control of the executive subsystem availability can be carried out both by selecting technical objects with the required availability and matching the required number of the objects which are to be used in the system in order to ensure proper accomplishment of the transport tasks. In this work there has been discussed a method for determination of the required availability of a single object as well as the required number of technical objects indispensable to perform appropriately the assigned transport task, on the basis of the transportation system availability assessment. Availability of the transportation system is determined on the basis of a mathematical model of the operation and maintenance process of technical objects, in the studied transportation system. Exemplary results have been presented on the basis of experimental data, obtained from the tests carried out in a real operation and maintenance system of transport means.

In the article, a method for determination of the technical object availability, GO (r) in a finite time interval x, defined by the time of the transport task duration, has been discussed. All of the study has been presented on the example of a selected system of technical object operation - a system of transport means operation, in a big urban complex (more than 400 thousand inhabitants). Direct performance of the transport tasks in the analyzed system is the responsibility of an executive system consisting of elementary subsystems of the type operator- transport means. Availability of transport means elementary subsystems is crucial for efficient accomplishment of transport tasks. The presented method involves determination of the technical object availability, on the basis of a mathematical model of the operation process which takes place in the studied system, taking into consideration the technical object reliability characteristics. For this purpose, significant states of the transport means operation have been determined and they have been classified in terms of the availability criterion. Basing on this, an event and mathematical models of transport means operation process have been developed, with the semi Markov homogenous model serving as a mathematical model of the studied operation process. Also, values of the analyzed characteristics have been determined.

Paper presents the methodology of maintaining dependability of devices used in process with use particular scheduled methods of maintenance. Presented in paper methods are dedicated for particular area and included there machines, devices, auxiliary system or tools. Presented in paper selected method and area are connected and have influence for each other. Methods are combination of operators experience, recommendation of production line supplier and engineers approach. Selected areas enfold both, operating and maintenance issues. From production process point of view, operating area which is mostly focused on steering of the process and maintenance area which is mostly focused on maintaining dependability of included into process machines and devices on satisfy level, should be treated with the same importance. Situation whit taking care about operational issues and forgetting about maintenance issues can work out only for very short time. Opposite situation is not possible to imagine. Operational area and maintenance area are interconnected and can be beneficial only in cooperation. Another problem connected with that is peoples' understanding, they have to accept that their jobs in their areas can be profitable with strongly and proper cooperation with jobs and positive attitude of people from other area. Production process consist from operation and maintenance area as well and only with this approach can be profitable for owners and all employees. Presented in paper methods touches both operational and maintenance areas as well. Paper is summarizing by results of experiment coming from practice.

The article presents the method of evaluation of the availability of the utilization subsystem in a transport system. The method includes the defining and comparison of the values of the availability of the utilization subsystem to the value of the required availability. The article also deals with the way of defining the minimum availability of an individual technological object (means of transport) as well as the minimum number of technological objects used in the system, in order for the obtained value of the availability of the utilization subsystem to exceed the value of the required availability determined by the parameters of transport task. The values of the availability of the utilization subsystem are defined according to the availability of an individual technological object, the number of objects used in the system as well as the structure by which the individual technological objects are linked. The availability of the individual technological object was defined on the basis of a constructed mathematical model of the utilization process realized in the tested transport system. Then, for the utilization data obtained during tests conducted in an existing transport system, the values of the analyzed characteristics were defined. The presented results are the effect of research conducted as part o f a larger research project pertaining to the creation o f a decision-making model of controlling the availability of a transport system.

Paper presents the methodology of shaping dependability of devices used in process with use key performance indicators for increasing Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) which are a subject of devices' parameters monitoring under operation. Value of Overall Equipment Efficiency describes the technical state of devices included into production process. Value itself can be different for different production lines even in one industry. For engineers it is important to put all possible effort to increasing values of particular key performance indicators which are building Overall Equipment Efficiency. Values of particular key performance indicators, shows to experienced engineer real technical state of whole production line. Presented in paper selected indicators are connected and have influence for each other, moreover operation parameters of devices' are characterizing production process. Key performance indicators presented in paper represents three the most important aspects of the production process: handling of the process, operators' area of responsibility, management of the process, managers' area of responsibility and optimization of the process, planners' area of responsibility. Only proper cooperation of these three groups of people can benefits requested result. From owners point of view, presented areas have the same importance, problems created in one of them can negatively influence for overall income of whole enterprise.

This paper presents the method of evaluation of a technical object as immersed in a logistic system with regard to its durability, the operational availability/readiness and the utilisation factor. These factors decide upon the object's effectiveness. For this evaluation probabilistic models from the theory of reliability and of the semi-Markov process were used. For the purpose of this paper as a technical object serves an aircraft. The process of operating an aircraft consists in using its resources to function accumulated during the process of its manufacture and resulting from a periodic regeneration of these resources in order to maintain its capability of being further operated. For the sake of better understanding our discussion we will refer to the sald 'flying craft' as an aircraft (including also other 'means of transport' into this notion). The paper in principle concerns on analysis of safe durability and aircraft availability/readiness analysis. The availability factor of an object in a logistic system expresses the prospective possibility of an effective action. The degree of utilisation of this „potential" for apassenger plane is represented by the occupancy factor. A product ctors of availability and occupancy can describe the overall effectiveness indicator, which characterises the availability and the market demand.
