At present, there are different methods to increase the performance of compression-ignition engine with Common Rail fuel supply system. One of them is to use external modules of the Tuning Box type. These modules are the simplest and cheapest solution to increase power and torque and reduce fuel consumption. Another method is to re-programme original bitmaps in control unit memory. The charge storage is read from engine controller memory via a diagnostic connector to EDC16 engine control units or by mechanical intervention into the driver itself. It is a labour-intensive method, which involves removing the driver from a vehicle, dismantling the cover, unsoldering the memory chips, reading the data programmer and re-programming the memory chip. This method is used for vehicles equipped with EDC15 engine control units. The paper presents a modification of the control unit software of BMW E39 530D vehicle which increases its torque at low and medium engine rotational speed range by eliminating the so-called “turbo lag” and improves vehicle driving dynamics. Reading was done with EEPROM programmer device and software via an EOBD diagnostic connector; fuel injection, EGR valve, boost pressure and smoke limiter bitmaps were modified and the memory was re-programmed.

The aim of this article is to describe the development of electrical equipment systems for military vehicles and fuel systems of these vehicles. Both electrical installations and fuel systems of military vehicles should meet strict quality requirements and resistance requirements to various exposure specified in the standards and other normative documents. This applies both to new vehicles and to the vehicles, which have been in service for many years. The article presents electrical components and fuel systems of military vehicles in which the fulfilment of quality and electromagnetic compatibility requirements and the use of innovative solutions constituted the leading targets in their construction. A great emphasis during the construction was placed not only on the fulfilment of functional requirements but also on the degree of reliability, maintainability, technical handling flexibility and the use of modern materials that can be recycled after the liquidation of the product. The presented fuel systems meet strict modern requirements and are worth recommending for both the application in the equipment that has already been operated and in newly designed vehicles.

The dynamic loads exerted on legs of seated bus passengers during a frontal traffic collision were studied. Passengers are being displaced as a result o f a bus collision with an obstacle and the nature of such displacement depends on the design of seats and personal protections applied (2- or 3-point safety belt or no belt). The study describes the dynamic loading of thighs as afunction of time and the relationship between the operation of personal protections and leg injuries. Most injuries result from hitting components of seats faced by passengers. The results were recorded using sensors placed in the dummies' thighs and filmed with a Photosonics camera. The video was used for studying the kinematics of the dummies' legs of the dummy secured with a 3-point belt, secured with a 2-point belt and unsecured, including possible combination of extreme forces with a specific type of leg displacement. Knee movement trajectories and consequences of dummy hips rotation on the bus seat were also presented. Problem of rotation of the hips of the dummy secured with a 3-point belt has also direct influence onto the dynamic loads affecting legs. The research demonstrates the existing design of 3-point safety belts is unsuitable for protection of seated passengers and the clearances between seat rows are insufficient. The need for applying new energy-absorbing materials or modification of seat design is obvious.

The interaction of contacting surfaces in relative motion is basic for every engineering design. The transmission of load from one rubbing surface to its mating surface under conditions of dry contact is taken into account. Microlocal or global models of friction are used to describe this phenomenon. In global approach, frictional force is proportional to normal load. A coefficient of external friction depends on the type, shape, and precision of finishing the surfaces of mating elements. The aim of the paper is analysis of a friction coefficient for 2024T3 aluminium alloy during cyclic tangential loading. Experimental tests are carried out on a ball-on-flat wear-testing machine Ducom. Tests of reciprocating friction are carried out using the following friction pairs of specimens: the ball specimen is made of high strength aluminium alloy PA25 and the plane specimen is made of 2024T3 alloy. Finally, graphs of temporary friction coefficients versus time in the form of fluctuated periodical functions are obtained. Two phases of friction are detected. However, during the first stage, the friction coefficient is relatively small while in the second period it rapidly increases and tends to become more irregular. Static and dynamic friction coefficients are estimated. In order to determine the dynamic coefficient the Discrete Fourier Transformation is used. The calculation of the dominant amplitude (corresponding to test frequency) of the studied functions is possible due to this method. An increase of the friction coefficient with an increase of normal load is observed. A cladding layer also causes an increase of friction, especially in the second phase.

At this paper there are presented methodology and selected information's about researches of OBU On Board Unii according to COOPERS project. There are information 's about COOPERS and GALILEO projects integration. Presented research results documents write measurement equipment verification. At this paper there was included description of Robust Positioning Unit, their communication with rest of ITS system, definition of COOPERS project services. There was described measurement vehicle and their basic elements with short work instruction. According to Galileo description, there were presented GSSF (Galileo System Simulation Facility) program designed for simulation of their work. Secondly there was included methodology of systems Galileo and COOPERS integration. Thanks to that, TU of Lodz learned, how to cooperate with multi partners team, how to exist at European project. Experience acquired at this project shows, that ITS and their research have a big potential, needs a very precise procedures and equipment, there is possible to work at large teams with synergy of individual specialist.

The article presents the research results of load influence on errors of the piston Top Dead Centre (TDC) position determined on indication graph with combustion. For TDC determination the method proposed by Polanowski is applied. This method is based on least-squares approximation with model of thermodynamic compression using apolynomial exponent. So, designated TDC are kinematics. This method make possible determination the TDC on the indicator diagram with combustion, as well as the total compression ratio and the dynamic error of pressure (offset). Research were done on the laboratory engine Sulzer 3AL25/30 for load range of 50-250 kW and rotational speed 750 rpm, which corresponds to 15-90% nominal load. Cylinder pressures were recorded with a resolution ofn O.5 OWK by means of multichannel recorder UNITEST 205. For pressure measurements were applied strain gauge pressure sensors Spais Company. For the analysis of indicator diagrams used its own specially developed algorithm and program for the automatic determination of TDC, based on the model of the compression process with the exponent of the polynomial. Simultaneously three parameters were determined: the position of TDC, the total compression ratio and offset the pressure. Additionally set the position of the zeros of the second order derivatives, which are sometimes considered as reference points to TDC of pistons. For smoothing of indicator diagrams their own algorithms and programs of moving approximation by polynomials of 3rd degree was used. The results of research have shown the essential load influence on the errors of TDC positions on indicator diagrams.

In this article author presents the project of aircraft attack avionics on-board control system with fuzzy efficiency of air-task estimation subsystem (rockets subsystem in A-G missions). Conducting extensive analysis and preliminary studies and very wide range of applications of fuzzy logic, the author found that its properties could also be used in aviation. Author’s study referred to the development of fuzzy expert aircraft attack avionics on-board control system project used by pilot during the air task (air combat task with use of rockets). One of the projects was presented in the publication. It has been developed based on Matlab (Fuzzy Logic Toolbox) and Simulink software. Complicity of the project and some mathematical calculations required relevant assumptions, which are also reported. At the end author describes his vision about operation of the system and conclusions. Schematic diagram of aircraft attack avionics system and rockets on-board control subsystem with fuzzy efficiency of air-task estimation subsystem, fuzzy efficiency estimation subsystem schematic diagram, inference and defuzification in rule viewer, fuzzy efficiency estimation control surfaces, dependence of the efficiency of the air- task on the distance from the target for „Rockets fuzzy controller” are presented in the paper.

In order to reduce the risk of premature wear or sudden failure of slide bearings it is necessary to take the relevant preventive steps. These can be determined on the ground of damage investigation and analysis of their causes. This paper presents some suggestions as to find causes of bearing failure, taking into account operational conditions, loads, applied lubricant and the quality of mating surfaces. A precise recognition of different causes of bearing failures should allow to reduce the hazard of premature wear and to take relevant preventing steps.Remarks on determination of bearing damage presented above and examples of damage presented in references try to show both to user and manufacturer their possible causes. If frequency of definite failure is occasional, most probably it results from unsuitable conditions of bearing operation (e.g. contaminated lubricating oil, oil film rupture, high temperature) or improper assembly (e.g. unsuitable bolt tightness, erroneous bearing clearance) of a certain engine. If damage concerns an entire engine family, one common cause should be defined. A precise recognition of damage various causes allow to diminish the hazard of premature wear by taking the appropriate preventing steps. Because of that very careful examination of the nature and distribution of any damage traces is recommended. Most often the research provide valuable hints how to construct, manufacture, assembly and operate bearings.

A program and tools enabling general aviation operators in our country the exploitation of the piston engines oncondition has been developed in the Institute of Aviation. Apart from the existing and strictly supervised engine manuals tasks, the program introduces, among other things, new maintenance mandatory activities like engine parameter monitoring during cruise and climb and a way of assignation diagnostic tolerance limits for them. That has never been performed in the aviation piston engines maintenance practice. In order to improve such analysis a flight data recorder (FDR) EDM 900 has been installed on the DA20- C1 „Katana” aircraft equipped with IO-240-B engine, which will allow elimination of the pilot's read errors and examination of the changes in the parameters during the entire flight. This will enable estimating if at a certain time of the flight a specified engine parameter is not exceeding the permissible values. Parameters from cruise have to be recorded in the similar range of the engine rpm’s. The parameters are oil pressure, oil temperature, cylinder head temperature, EGT, fuel flow, outside air temperature, rpm and altitude. Lower and upper acceptable limit values should be set, in which they can be contained throughout engine life. Engineers should also observe the trend of their changes. This article shows results of the aviation piston engine parameters analysis taken from FDR for ground runs, take-offs and cruise flight phases.

It was presented the ways of methane leakages during transport by sea. Due to greenhouse (GH), effect of carbon dioxide on atmosphere it was mentioned the carbon cycle on the Earth. Carbon dioxide is the main GH gas and it was indicated the change of concentration during last sixty years. It was increased about 30%. The possible methane leakages from vessels may increase the total GH effect due to high Global Warming Potential (GWP) of methane and other hydrocarbons. The carbon dioxide emission from engines is about 30% lower that from liquid marine fuels (diesel oils and heavy fuels). The liquefied natural gas (LNG) or compressed natural gas (CNG) seems to be a good ecological marine fuel. Due to methane leakages estimated on the level of 1-10% from mining to burning in the engines and the GWP on the level about 72-84 the look on methane as ecological fuel may change. It was calculated the equivalent effect (additional effect) of using methane as a marine fuel. Methane leakage on the level of 1-2.5% is equivalent to the same warming effect to the atmosphere as using popular marine diesel oils. Therefore, the leakage of methane during all operations should be as small as possible. In many cases, it is a serious problem for calculating the real leakages so they may be only estimated.

Self-ignition engines are currently used to drive lorries, agricultural and road construction machines, as well as passenger cars. Common Rail supply systems are widely used in such engines. Arguments for using these systems include the simple construction of a system as well as practically unlimited control of fuel feeding (division of a fuel dose into several portions), which allows for controlling the fuel combustion process. This facilitates optimisation of the combustion process in limiting toxic emissions, which is the main evaluation criterion for modern combustion engines. Operation of an engine with a Common Rail system is controlled by an Electronic Diesel Control (EDC), which is responsible not only for controlling the supply system, but also for the diagnostics of the whole engine. The diagnostic monitors embedded in the controller supervise the operation of the supply system, but also of the whole engine, including the systems responsible for reducing toxic emissions released to the atmosphere, in accordance with the European On Board Diagnostic (EOBD) standard. Unfortunately, despite sophisticated diagnostic functions, defects sometimes occur in vehicles with engines with a CR system, which are not signalled by EOBD systems. In such cases, an additional tool is needed to help a diagnostician to identify the cause of improper operation of an engine. This article presents several examples to describe the diagnostics of a Common Rail system using an analyser of diagnostic electric signals to detect the cause of such defects.

This article presents the results of investigations regarding the use of on-board diagnostic systems to assess the technical state of automotive vehicles, and the possibilities of early fault detecting. The examinations were carried out in order to establishifit is possible to evaluate the level of compatibility between diagnostic test units and on-board diagnostic systems in over three hundred models of vehicles which were produced by different manufactures. The investigations concerning the influence of examination conditions, the type of faults and the vehicle age upon the results and reliability of diagnostic tests were carried out. The suitability of fault codes which were recorded in the memory of diagnostic system while the vehicle was operating have been determined as far as the recognition of the type of faults is concerned. Additionally, the examinations of engine on a test stand were carried out as well. Sensitivity of diagnostic systems was tested regarding the changes of work parameters of the engine. The faults of engine were deliberately provoked and were examined at the early stage by on-board diagnostic systems. The test results show that there is a necessity of elaborating new diagnosing methods enabling to find damages regarding safety in road traffic.

The article presents the specificity of aerobatic operations that use on-board transmitters to improve the quality of training and judging in this sport area. The first chapter of this work is an introduction to the topic under discussion and the second chapter describes the principles of aerobatic competitions, methods of judge evaluations and the regulations related to the correctness of the figure performance by the pilots. The third chapter contains information on the AeroSafetyShow Demonstrator+PL system (ASSD+PL) used to carry out active supervision over flights in general aviation (especially in gliders and airplanes aerobatic). In the fourth chapter of the article, the possibilities of application of the ASSD+PL system functionalities were described which could improve the quality of training and judge evaluations. The Polish measurement system is actually an only electronic system, which is accepted and respected by the aerobatic judges all over the Europe. Functionalities of the ASSD+PL are used by them to control and sum up all the forbidden crosses the box. The pilot flying too low can be even disqualified. Application interface can be also transmitted in the real time to the big screen as well for the judges, as for the wide spectators watching the competitions flights.

The article includes discuss of CAN bus's standard, that since 2008 has been obligatory standard in every new car. The history, evolution and develop of standard is been discuss. Pay particular attention to electrical and network parameters of the standard, that was frequent avoid in articles. Author performed restrictions and standard topologies utilize on CAN bus network. The build of two obligatory CAN bus' frames was performed in details; ISO11898 and ISO11519 with the possibility and requirement, relate to mentions, is being performed. The way of sending messages for diagnostic and recessive frames and algorithm of existence recessive messages is been described. The last part of the article describes most popular Philips and Realtec chips. They enable to convert CAN protocol into Ethernet network that is the most popular standard in local area network. That conversion will be next necessary step in nowadays on- board diagnosis' develop. On board diagnosis of automotive vehicle is going to self - reliance of decision circuits. The most probably is independent decision of diagnostic and prediagnostic decision circuit in form of processor takes steps to contact with service. Therefore it must be equip in transform' circuit to another standards - into Ethernet.
Artykuł zawiera omówienie standardu magistrali CAN, która od 2008 roku jest obligatoryjnym standardem w każdym nowo wyprodukowanym pojeździe samochodowym. Omówiona została historia standardu jego rozwój i możliwości dalszej ewolucji. Zwrócono szczególną uwagę na elektryczne i sieciowe parametry standardu, najczęściej pomijane w literaturze. Autor przedstawił ograniczenia i standardowe topologie sieci, wykorzystywane w magistrali CAN. Szczegółowo omówiona została budowa ramki dwóch standardów, obowiązujących w CAN; ISO11898 oraz ISO1151; ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem możliwości i wymagań, dotyczących wymienionych standardów. Przedstawiono sposób przekazywania wiadomości przez ramki diagnostyczne i recesywne, a także algorytm powstawania wiadomości recesywnej. Ostatnia część artykułu opisuje najpopularniejsze układy scalone firmy Philips oraz Realtec. Umożliwiają one konwersję protokołu CAN w sieć Ethernet, będącej obecnie najpopularniejszym standardem w lokalnych sieciach komputerowych. Taka konwersja wydaje się być kolejnym, koniecznym krokiem w rozwoju współczesnej diagnostyki pokładowej pojazdów samochodowych. Diagnostyka pokładowa pojazdów samochodowych zmierza do usamodzielnienia się układów decyzyjnych. Wielce prawdopodobne wydaje się, że poprzez diagnostykę i prediagnostykę, układ decyzyjny w postaci procesora sam podejmie decyzję o kontakcie z serwisem. Tym samym będzie musiał być wyposażony w układ transformujący do innych standardów w tym - Ethernet.

The article includes discuss of CAN bus's standard, that since 2008 has been obligatory standard in every new car. The history, evolution and develop of standard is been discuss. Pay particular attention to electrical and network parameters of the standard, that was frequent avoid in articles. Author performed restrictions and standard topologies utilize on CAN bus network. The build of two obligatory CAN bus' frames was performed in details; ISO11898 and ISO11519 with the possibility and requirement, relate to mentions, is being performed. The way of sending messages for diagnostic and recessive frames and algorithm of existence recessive messages is been described. The last part of the article describes most popular Philips and Realtec chips. They enable to convert CAN protocol into Ethernet network that is the most popular standard in local area network. That conversion will be next necessary step in nowadays on- board diagnoses develop. On board diagnosis of automotive vehicle is going to self - reliance of decision circuits. The most probably is independent decision of diagnostic and prediagnostic decision circuit in form of processor takes steps to contact with service. Therefore it must be equip in transform' circuit to another standards - into Ethernet.
Artykuł zawiera omówienie standardu magistrali CAN, która od 2008 roku jest obligatoryjnym standardem w każdym nowo wyprodukowanym pojeździe samochodowym. Omówiona została historia standardu jego rozwój i możliwości dalszej ewolucji. Zwrócono szczególną uwagę na elektryczne i sieciowe parametry standardu, najczęściej pomijane w literaturze. Autor przedstawił ograniczenia i standardowe topologie sieci, wykorzystywane w magistrali CAN. Szczegółowo omówiona została budowa ramki dwóch standardów, obowiązujących w CAN; ISO11898 oraz ISO1151; ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem możliwości i wymagań, dotyczących wymienionych standardów. Przedstawiono sposób przekazywania wiadomości przez ramki diagnostyczne i recesywne, a także algorytm powstawania wiadomości recesywnej. Ostatnia część artykułu opisuje najpopularniejsze układy scalone firmy Philips oraz Realtec. Umożliwiają one konwersję protokołu CAN w sieć Ethernet, będącej obecnie najpopularniejszym standardem w lokalnych sieciach komputerowych. Taka konwersja wydaje się być kolejnym, koniecznym krokiem w rozwoju współczesnej diagnostyki pokładowej pojazdów samochodowych. Diagnostyka pokładowa pojazdów samochodowych zmierza do usamodzielnienia się układów decyzyjnych. Wielce prawdopodobne wydaje się, że poprzez diagnostykę i prediagnostykę, układ decyzyjny w postaci procesora sam podejmie decyzję o kontakcie z serwisem. Tym samym będzie musiał być wyposażony w układ transformujący do innych standardów w tym - Etherne.
