Opis:
This article presents the influence of rotor blade airfoil shape on main rotor performances. In this case, we analysed the influence of anti-erosion tape, which is applied to the leading edge of the blade to protect the blades from environmental conditions. In Gyro-Tech Innovation an Aviation Company and Institute of Aviation the independent tests of helicopter and gyroplane main rotors were performed. Research includes: bench tests, on the test stand for dynamic testing of insulated rotors and tests on two flying constructions, gyroplane Cavalon produced by AutoGyro GmbH Company and ultralight helicopter Dynali H3. On the test bench, a two-blade rotor, used in ultralight and unmanned helicopters, was tested. In article, the authors present importance of the proper selection and application of anti-erosion coatings on rotor blades. Discuss the behaviour of the above-mentioned constructions with main rotor blades leading edge covered anti-erosion tape, during flight tests. The results of bench tests, including the comparison of polar curves of the main rotor with anti-erosion coating and without were also presented and discussed. In the summary of this article among others the solution of technological pocked introduced in the rotor blade, corresponding to the thickness of the anti-erosion tapes, in such way that after tape is applied it does not change the contour of the blade airfoil were presented.

Opis:
Over the next few decades the automotive industry will be faced with a number of challenging decisions as the world’s supply of oil reduces and the global population increases beyond 7 billion. These factors have driven some researchers to look at blending fossil fuels with alternatives such as crop-produced alcohols (or so-called biofuels). The currently reported study was concerned with the combustion characteristics of ethanol-isooctane blended fuels in a specially designed, single cylinder, spark ignition research engine equipped with full bore overhead optical access. The testing was undertaken using port fuel injection (PFI) and was focused on the behaviour of differing ethanol concentrations under varied internal exhaust gas re-circulation levels (IEGR). Simultaneous high speed imaging and in-cylinder pressure data analysis was used to understand the fundamental influence of varying ethanol content on turbulent flame propagation and subsequent mass burning. The resulting images were analysed looking at the speed of the advancing flame and the shape factor of the burning velocity. The initial evidence suggested that under the moderate speeds and loads tested, poor charge mixture preparation associated with ethanol was leading to fast but unstable burn rates. This could be avoided and combustion improved by using increased valve overlap settings, with the hot residuals entering the intake port aiding the full evaporation of the fuel.

The fact that we live in a new era of informational civilization compels us to fulfil new requirements also in the area of transportation and motorization. The paper deals with the problems of the cars of the first years of our century. Basic assumptions for the concepts of such cars are as follows: alternative forms of personal transportation are inevitable, cars must be environment friendly and friendly for human beings, and general design concept of the cars will not be changed. Some examples of such vehicles are presented using the concept of ultra light automobiles described by Q .R. Riley. The paper also describes "zero emission" cars and there are mentioned ideas of the vehicles with engines which are yet known in the sphere of science-fiction only. Design requirements for construction of future cars, ideas on construction of cars of the future as well as requirements which should realize motor vehicles friendly to humans and the environment, example solutions of various technical nature which can contribute to fulfilment of requirements imposed on SPNS and the proposal according to the author (R. Q. Riley) of Alternative cars in the 21st Century [3] are represented in the paper.

Opis:
In this paper the results of computer simulation of blast wave action arising from mine or IED explosion on wheeled light armoured vehicle will be presented. In the last years the NATO STANG 4569 international standard has been prepared. It describes the test standards concerning the ballistic resistance of vehicles not only to missiles but also to fragments and pressure wave arising from mine or IED explosion. In accordance with this standard the explosive charge is placed under ground surface (independently to the charge position in relation to the vehicle-under the wheel or under the vehicle centre). This case is of frequent occurrence during the different stabilization missions conducted by our troops both in Iraq and in Afghanistan. In the calculations the possibility of coupling between the medium described with the aid of Eulerian equations and the medium described with the aid of Lagrange equations has been used. The coupling enables the complex description of the issue. The detonation process has been described approximately of detonation optics and the behaviour of detonation of explosive device has been described with the aid of JWL equation in common use. Such approach to the subject is sufficient to resolve mast engineer problems. The vehicle has been described with the aid of Lagrange elements with corresponding material properties. The effect of high masses has been taken into account, in particular the effect of engine on behaviour of the object. The adequate coupling of the mediums above- mentioned has been very difficult during the numerical work, but additional taking the ground in consideration has improved considerably the quality of the results obtained which are nearer of the real results.

Presently a lot of designs of light armours are based mainly on the multilayer composite materials. Thanks to these materials it was possible to achieve highest levels of ballistic resistance of specific armour at limited weight. The weight (area density) and the performance have direct influence on the value of combat ability of equipment and soldiers. Carbon fibers are basic types of reinforcement used in composites. They have many technical applications including light ballistic covers where they are mostly used as multi-layer composite materials constituting a structure made of several interconnected layers or many layers of carbon fibers, or in combination with other materials. Light ballistic covers have usually thickness of several to 10-20 mm and potential defects occurring in them have thermo-physical properties definitely different than materials they are made of so the non-destructive tests using thermography methods may be effective in detecting these defects. The main methods of active thermographic tests are as follows [1, 2]: - Pulsed Thermography – PT, - Step Heating Thermography – SHT, - Lock-in Thermography – LT, - Vibrothermography – VT. In the paper an application of Step Heating Thermography and Vibrothermography to detection of delaminating area of CFRP composites after mechanical impacts is presented.

In the last few decades the number of vehicles on the roads increased in a great extent and not surprisingly also the number of car wrecks increased simultaneously. These car wrecks representing a significant gross and volume of garbage contain hazardom materials among others, hence it needs to be handled. That requires a complex processing system. European Union directives and home regulations (in Hungary) give the adequate legal background to handle this special and problematic waste effectively. The technological background for recovering and reusing as clear substance and as much component as possible is provided by the development of the shredder and the after-coming separator technology. This technique is undergoing constant development. Disposal must in the first place be organized in such a way as to create environmentally-friendly solution opportunities, in compliance with the statutory requirements using the latest state of the art, in order to close the relevant material cycle. The most problematic fraction is shredder light fraction, it is about 20% of the grinded wrecks. The purpose of this paper is to present the environmentally-friendly disposal of vehicle wrecks, in particularly such disposal of non-metallic automobile shredder residue (ASR). ASR consists essential of plastic materials (60%), glass/sand, i.e. mineral substances, textiles/leather/wood, together with paint dust/rust and residual metals. The main aim is to change the present practice: lower the volume of waste getting into the landfill.

In this paper research results of ability vibration's suppression steel and composite leaf springs were presented. Polymeric composite leaf springs and steel were studied. Composite leaf springs were made from epoxy-glass composite reinforcement by glass fibre. Composite springs became designed to can replace steel spring of van. Executed investigations base on dynamic loadings of leaf springs and registering of vibrations amplitude and reaction of props. Load was realized through lowering from definite height of mass which hit into spring wresting it from balance. Mass stayed on spring to total atrophy of vibrations. Measured and registered parameters permitted to count logarithmic decrement suppressions of tremblings and coefficient of suppression of tremblings. This coefficient was counted for composite and steel leaf springs. Basic exploational parameters of leaf springs were compared as well as basic advantages of applying to vehicles building of composite materials were analysed. Analyses lead to conclusion that composite leaf springs in comparison to steel springs: about three times better suppress of tremblings, they are about five times lighter and give smaller dynamic burdens of vehicles body. Wide applying of composites materials on carrying structures of vehicles will contribute to lower of vehicles mass and to decrease of emission greenhouses gases.

Opis:
IR thermography is a technique used to detection, registration, processing and visualization of invisible infrared radiation emitted by a tested object. Image (thermogram) is a result of this technique and it maps the distribution of temperature on surface of tested object. The image after entering in digital form into the computer needs to get certain treatments on it to separate information of interest through its processing. A characteristic feature of image processing is that the image exists at either the input or output of information processing. The output images should be free from disturbances and they should have distinctly separated features of interest. After the initial processing of the image, the next steps of its analysis follow. In the result of the analysis quantitative data is received that describes some determined features of the image and the complete image comprising hundreds details is substituted by a limited population of separated features. This population can be used effectively by different recognition methods and algorithms. In thermographic investigations, situations occur when treatment of images applied in standard software is not fully efficient to obtain information, which is "camouflaged" in taken thermogram. Such event takes place particularly in the case of looking for thermal "disturbances" onto the surface, which are caused by the undersurface defects. Such situation needs the application of special transformations carried out on thermograms. These transformations lead to selecting from all information included in the thermogram only such part of it that is essential from the point of view of conducted tests. In such case it is required the usage of advanced data processing techniques like thermal tomography, one-dimensional Fourier analysis, principle component analysis (PCA), an approximation by means of polynominals, wavelet analysis, neural network and reconstruction of thermographic signal. In this paper, these methods are described and examples of their use in tests of light ballistic protections are presented.

The study develops numerical modelling and design of the ALFC shield loaded by the 20 mm 54 g FSP fragment moving at impact velocity of 1800 m/s (fragmentation simulation of IED devices), used to protect 5 mm-thick Armox 500T steel plate. The ALFC shield is composed of the ALF energy-absorbing subsystem and a 99.7% Al2O3 alumina ceramic layer. The ALF subsystem is designed to absorb blast wave impact energy induced by explosive materials up to 10 kg TNT. The ceramic layer is aimed at stopping FSP fragments. The 5 mm-thick Armox 500T steel plate reflects the body bottom segment of a light armoured vehicle. The main purpose of the study is to determine the minimum thickness of the ceramic layer at which the 5 mm-thick Armox 500T steel plate is fully protected from perforation. The ALF subsystem has the following layered structure: Al2024 aluminium alloy plate, SCACS hybrid laminate plate, ALPORAS aluminium foam, SCACS hybrid laminate plate. The layers are joined with Soudaseal 2K chemoset glue. SCACS hybrid laminate contains the following components: VE 11-M modified vinylester resin (matrix), SWR800 glass S plain weave fabric, Tenax HTA40 6K carbon plain weave fabric, Kevlar 49 T 968 aramid plain weave fabric. The total thickness of the ALF shield amounts to 76 mm. In the numerical modelling, the aluminium alloy plate and Armox 500T steel plate are working in the elasto-plastic range according to Johnson–Cook model. The 99.7% Al2O3 alumina ceramic is working in elasto--hort range according to JH-2 Johnson-Holmquist model. The simulations correspond to large displacements, large deformations and contact among all the components of the system. In FE mesh, the 8-node 24 DOF hexahedral finite elements with single integration point have been used. Additional failure criteria governing ad-hoc erosion of finite elements have been applied. The FEM modelling, simulation and postprocessing have been carried out using Catia, HyperMesh, LS-DYNA and LS-PrePost systems. The simulation results are presented in the form of displacement - perforation contours and the FSP final deformation for both the FSP–shield-plate and the FSP-plate systems. It has been pointed out that 18 mm-thick ceramic layer protects the LAV body bottom plate from perforation.

The rising greenhouse gas emissions at a global level have caused the increasing interest in cleaner and less oildependent transportation sources. It has been carried out a lot of researches on the alternative energy sources, like biofuels, fuel cells, wind farms, etc. and on the clean vehicles (hybrids). Most major manufacturers have successfully introduced hybrid automobiles utilizing electric motors and an internal combustion engine to improve their gas mileage. To decrease the use of gasoline even further, some hybrids are being retrofitted to allow them to be pluggedinto a standard i.e. 120-volt socket to charge the batteries and potentially to provide power back to the electric grid when needed. Plug-in Hybrid Cars offer the fuel-efficiency benefits of hybrid cars with the added feature of being able to plug-in to household electricity during rest. This allows the increased mileage and fuel savings. Plug-ins requires larger batteries than normal hybrids, which drives up their cost. Lithium-ion batteries are smaller, have a higher output of energy but are more expensive than rechargeable nickel metal hydride (NiMh), still used in hybrid vehicles. Improvement in battery storage capacity is of the most importance for the plug-ins. Plug-in technology is developed by the major auto manufacturers, with working prototypes of both plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and plug-in electric vehicles possessing small backup gas generators. The aim of the paper has been to assess the dynamic performance characteristics of the assembly light trailer - car with classic combustion engine (in the first case) or PHEV (in the second case), using mathematical models and numerical simulations of standard driving cycles and to investigate algorithms for charging the stock battery pack.

The article presents a method for numerical modelling of interaction of a shock wave on a simplified model of a light armoured vehicle. Detonation of the explosive material occurs centrally underneath the vehicle. The mass of an explosive charge was from 0.5 to 10 kg off TNT. Acceleration, displacement and kinetic energy of the floor plate/panel were verified during the tests. The model and numerical calculations were carried out using the following programs: CATIA, HyperMesh, LS-PrePost, LS-Dyna. CONWEP approach was applied to describe interaction of a pressure wave on the structure. For each case, the explosive charge was located at the same place under 700 mm from the top surface of the range stand. The results of the calculations present the effects of detonation under the vehicle without a protective system and with the protective system. The proposed protection system is made of low-density materials such as aluminum foam and cork. Thanks to such an approach, the effectiveness of the protective system will be checked to reduce the adverse physical quantities that threaten the health of the soldiers. Thanks to very simple solutions, it is possible to increase passive safety of passers and use of low-density materials will slightly increase the vehicle's mass leaving manoeuvrability at a similar level.

Opis:
Recently the composite materials have been often applied in designs of light ballistic protections as the progress in domain of polymers chemistry has made possible the production of materials providing efficient protection against small arms bullets and fragments. Usually the composites apply textile materials joined with plastic what creates multi-layered composite materials used for personal ballistic protections (vests and helmets for shots and fragments protection) and armours of car vehicles and stationary objects. This type of composite materials is largely made on the basis of very resistant aramid and polyethane fibres joined with phenolic and polyurethane resins and other elastic mixtures. These materials are characterized as lightweight, non-corrosive and easy to form what makes them fit well to the surface, which they have to protect. Defects, which can appear in this type of multi-layered composite materials usually, are inaccuracies in gluing the composite layers and stratifications and delaminations occurring under hits of fragments and bullets. A method that possibly can be used to non-destructive testing of this type of materials and detection of internal defects deploys infrared thermography. In order to determine the potential use of thermal methods the specialized software was developed for computing 3D (three-dimensional) dynamic temperature distributions in anisotropic multi-layered solid body with subsurface defects. The paper includes some results of simulation representing possibilities for the use of IR thermography methods to test such composite materials.

A number of theoretical problems are discovered in the application of degenerated models in punching process of ballistic shields. Insufficient knowledge of dynamic behaviours of these models based on non-linear complex constitutive materials or combination of mixed rheological Maxwell models with linear elastic elements or dissipative is the main reason of the problems. In the engineering application with the influence of rheological forces the element of mass responsible for force ofinertia in dynamic loads is always applied. Taking the forces into consideration in dynamic analysis the degenerated system is necessary to use. It is also utilitarian goal of materiał properties identification in punching process with the use ofparticle mass (projectile). In this paper, the authors present further results ofresearch in this area. Suppression and dispersion of energy is the crucial phenomena in the punching process of ballistic shields with the use of small arms. Therefore the research presented in the paper concerns systems based on viscotic damping with the dry friction parameter (h). As a result ofthe research influence of h parameter on time and frequency characteristics under impact stress was estimated. Analytic calculations and simulations of the examination were validated by experimental test and measurements. With the basis on the results the final conclusions were formulated.
