Opis:
Changes in operating properties of the internal combustion engine, for various reasons, may manifest themselves with similar symptoms. An example is the drop in engine power, which may be caused by malfunctioning of the system such as power supply, or excessive wear geometric kinematic pairs as the piston-crankshaft. Identification of the causes of malfunction is the basis for carrying out corrective action. In practice, the workshop frequent disability are different manifestations of the drive units having identical symptoms. An alternative to iterative repair methods is the introduction of diagnostic tools that will help identify causes of failure, without having to remove the individual motor units. These provisions comply with the method of vibration analysis. The vibration signals provide information about the technical condition of the object. The paper presents examples of applying the methods of vibration in the identification of changes in the technical condition of the engine, which confirm their usefulness in identifying sources of failure. During the process of investigations, time courses of vibration accelerations were recorded with piezoelectric transducer mounted at half height of the first cylinder, perpendicular to its axis. The worked out method is based on vibration signals recorded at engine operation. The dominant amplitude components of time courses are strongly connected with air- fuel mixture ignition as well as with kinetic pairs of the engine.

Opis:
With the growing intensity of civil usage of the UAV, one of the most important problems is safety. It consists of operational safe use of the UAV in the common air area and reliability of the aerial vehicle construction. Each flying object is subjected to external loads, which influence on it in flight and on the ground. The external loads are mainly caused by aerodynamic, weight and inertia influence, ground reaction force and the power unit [1]. That is why during service, UAV structures are prone to many mechanical and environmental conditions that can damage to composite structures in the form of delamination, fiber breakage, and matrix cracking. Monitoring the level and type of damage to a composite structure is vital to determining the component’s structural integrity and preventing the failure of the structure during flight [2]. Non-destructive testing which has been used so far to identify defects in the aircraft structure made from metallic materials has a quite limited application in the case of composite structures. With the growing use of composites in the aviation industry, a necessity appears to work out a method allowing identification of technological defects and damages appeared in the process of the UAV’s operation. The answer to the appearing demand could be, for instance, the active thermography technique used for the thin wall test of the skin elements of the UAV. The obtained research results bring closer the problem of selection of the quick, well-fitted non-destructive testing method depending on the kind of the diagnosed construction.

The article describes emergency situations occurring in the propulsion system of an aircraft with the jet engine used in Poland on planes such as MiG-29 or F-16. The article also presents statistics of polish aircrafts damage over the years. Due to the technological progress of turbine engines used in fighter aircraft, the authors decided to discuss the issue of monitoring emergency states in this study. In particular, efforts have been made to ensure that damage to the aircraft engine can be prevented by monitoring its operation with the equipment available on the aircraft. Counteracting phenomena that occur in the jet engine can lead to permanent damage; can lead to an increase in the safety of the pilot and the local population, but also to a reduction of costs. The authors also decided to se the threats that occur during take-off and landing, and the flight when they land outside the plane. Jet engines are almost reliable and most common cause of engine damages as the analysis shows are foreign bodies, particularly dangerous for a turbine engine on or near the runway, as well as birds, which provides to mechanical damage of engine. Securing the airport against foreign objects on the runway is one of the most important tasks of ground staff.

Opis:
Results of studies that aim was to develop a diagnostic method for WOLA marine diesel engines type H are presented in this paper. These engines are high-speed type units used to drive small vessels or more often to drive ship generators. Polish Navy is operating significant number engines of this type. Motors of this type do not have indicator valves, which complicates the assessment of their technical condition in exploitation. These engines also, because of their age, are relatively poorly equipped in control and measurement devices. In the era of cost reduction in operation of marine equipment there is also tendency to reduce the cost of maintenance and repair of diesel engines. One way to avoid malfunction of the motor can be systematic monitoring of the technical condition of selected critical systems using reliable diagnostic methods. Polish Naval Academy (PNA) in Gdynia for years has been doing research on methods of diagnosing marine internal combustion engines. In recent years, a diagnostic method for high-speed diesel engines based on the analysis of envelope of vibration accelerations generated by the valve gear mechanism and fuel system of WOLA type H engines has been developed. Preliminary tests were carried out on a six-cylinder WOLA engine type 57H6Aa in the Marine Power Plant Operation Laboratory in PNA. Verification tests were conducted on twelve-cylinders WOLA engines of the same type on navy vessels. The developed method allows determine the angles of opening and closing the fuel injection valves and angles of closing intake and exhaust valves during engine operation. Using this method it could not be clearly determined opening angles of intake and exhaust valves.

Opis:
The paper presents results of examinations concerning stream spray and ignition delay angles of AD3.152 engine fuelled with mineral fuel Ekodiesel Plus 50B and comparatively fuelled with vegetable fuels like methyl ester FAME and ethyl ester FAEE. Using fuels of different physicochemical properties to diesel engines requires high accuracy of diagnostic parameters measurements in order to learn differences in processes of injection and combustion. Necessity of fulfilling more and more strong standards, concerning emission of toxic components of exhaust gases, forces users of diesel engines to posses quick and precision methods of their technical state assessment and particularly of a combustion process and of injection equipment technical state. Analysis of the obtained diagrams of fuel pressure in the injection pipe enables to determine fuel pressure increase rate. The investigations were carried out on the basis of speed external characteristic using test stand equipped with system of quick-changeable pressures measurements. Stream spray of fuel and ignition delay angles influence combustion process what is connected with emission of toxic components to environment. However, decay period time tested fuels and their limits appeared smaller for vegetable fuels. Considering the results, it is therefore decide to continue our experiments.

Opis:
In this paper were presented results of preliminary research of the fault diagnosis of natural gas engine-driven compressor by vibration analysis. Natural gas engine-driven compressors are heavily exploited during delivering natural gas to the transmission network of Poland. Every failure brings about interferences to gas system, furthermore it causes notably cost of maintenances. The major failures are piston seizures and overly level of vibration causes by exceedingly wear, an unbalanced engine after repairs and dry friction. During research investigated three natural gas engine-driven compressors. Acceleration of engine cylinders was measured in cylinder axis and perpendicularly axis and acceleration of compressor cylinders, engine fundament and gas receiver in three axes. Results obtain during investigation of engine cylinders one gas engine-driven compressor collates with results of validation of engine cylinders after their stripping. Preliminary results of investigation indicate proper trend to set up diagnostic symptoms. It was found that for increasing of information amount is necessary to carry out synchronous measurements and its envelops in domain of crankshaft rotation angle. Very important source of diagnostic information can be shaft acceleration, determined basing on existing system of signals generation. The investigation is to be continued.

The knowledge of the dynamic stat and structure of the system allows desercribing its behaviour, and allows creating prognosis models of the system behaviour in the function of dynamic evolution time, based on the model of the technical state symptoms growth. Most often, however, there are no known equations describing behaviours of the system in the function of dynamic evolution time, which accounts for the need to apply new tools to examine the dynamic state. There is, therefore, the requirement to experimentally verify analytical technical models as the proper one is a model which is verified in practice. An experiment is, therefore, often only an inspiration for further researches leading to the optimization of the construction. In this work presented are chosen problems of machines technical state diagnosis with the use of identification and technical diagnostics methods. Relations between methods of dynamic state evaluation and methods of technical state evaluation were indicated. Example modal analysis results illustrate the complexity of projecting dynamic state researches into diagnostic researches of machine state evaluation.

The processes associated with operation of turbinę avionic engines entail the occurrence of various defects affecting turbine components, in particular turbine vanes. The main reasons for defects and deterioration of gas turbine vanes include thermal fatigue and overheating of the vane material. This paper outlines the non-destructive test methods that are currently in use and that are based on an analysis of surface images obtained from the examined parts within the visible bandwidth with the use of a ring-wedge detector. Particular attention is paid to opportunities that enable unbiased diagnostics of changes in the microscopic structure of vanes with the use of the non-destructive thermographic method. Initial examinations ofthe gas turbine vanes, both new ones and those already in operation, have demonstrated the existence of interrelations and dependency between the thermal strain during the turbine operation, changes of signals associated with the thermal response from the material and the condition of the vane microstructures. The results of these examinations have been successfully verified with the use of the metallographic method. The demonstrated interrelations and dependency shall serve as a basis to develop fundamentals for a non-destructive thermographic test method intended to assess the overheating condition of the material for gas turbine vanes.

A wide use of common-rail injection systems in vehicles made it necessary to develop effective methods of diagnosing and repair of their subassemblies. The paper presents problems connected with diagnosing of malfunctions and regeneration of common-rail system injectors with the use of testing tables. Due to precise workmanship and strong forces, the systems are particularly exposed to damage most often caused by the application of fuels of inadequate quality. Early detection of damage symptoms may contribute to considerable decrease of costs of repair without entailing any failures of other components of the system. The authors discuss the most common methods of evaluation of the condition allowing a quick and explicit identification, whether a given injector has been damaged or not. Further deliberations lead to the determination of possible regeneration of individual generation systems of various manufacturers. The authors also present basic activities of the regeneration process and tests made with the use of testing tables. The work presents results of tests performed on a new injector with the use of testing equipment of various manufacturers. Discussion on obtained results leads to conclusions that, due to little recurrence and insufficient accuracy of measurements, possibilities of clear evaluation of technical condition of injectors is greatly limited.

The general principle of internal combustion engine operation has not changed since the engine structure was first developed. However, the system of blending the air and fuel into a mixture with the parameters ensuring effective fuel combustion processes has been evolving over the years. In the simplest engines, the fuel-air mixture was produced in the inlet manifold i.e. in the carburettor systems while the more advanced motors were equipped with the system of Single Point Injection (SPI), and further on with the Multi-Point Injection (MP!) where each of the cylinders has its own individual injector. The Multi-Point Injection (MPI) system has evolved into a Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) system where the injector sprays fuel directly into the combustion chambers. Presently, due to the restrictive regulations governing the issues of exhaust gases ' composition and emissions, manufacturers of the engines used mainly in the automotive industry apply the system of multi-point indirect injection to the intake manifold or the system of direct fuel injection to the combustion chambers. In both systems, these are the injectors dosing precise amounts offuel, which are the most important, and the most accurate elements of the system. The article presents the injectors' macro- and microscopic parameters used for the purpose of the fuel dispersants' technical condition and performance assessment. Additionally, it refers to direct and optical methods of microscopic parameters measurement enabling fuel spray diagnostics.
