Opis:
The development of diagnostic methods suitable for the monitoring of practical flames is an important objective, which is receiving a growing attention and significant research efforts. This is motivated by the need to achieve a more precise description of the process and, ultimately, implement efficient and reliable control and optimization methods as a key step towards the development of more efficient, flexible, reliable and clean combustion systems. Many interesting attempts have been proposed, involving very different approaches in the use of various instruments and sensors. One of parameter difficult to control is distribution of reaction zone. Presently, such system which allows monitoring combustion process of industrial burners does not exist. Measurements of temperature or control of exist flame by using ionization probe provide only partial information about performance of combustion process. For that reason, new diagnostic methods should be developed. Many and interesting attempts have been proposed but one of interesting solution will be development of combustion process diagnostic methods by means of the Electrical Capacitance Tomography (ECT). Obtained results show that it will be a very good tool for research proposes, especially in development of a new combustion chamber operated at very high pressure, where installation of optical windows is very difficult and many time not possible.

Opis:
When an explosive charge is fired, the nature and mass of the explosive are the only parameters of importance usually considered. The shape however, also plays a major role in the effect of an explosive charge. Knowledge of shape effect can be important before the use of the explosive (in order to create a maximum effect with a given mass of explosive), or in post-explosion damage assessment. The shape effect however is only significant within a certain range from the charge. At longer distance, the produced blast wave tends to be spherical. The shock wave parameters studied in this work are the peak overpressure and the first positive impulse. A series of numerical test has been performed in order to determine the range of influence of the charge shape. Different locations of initiation were compared. A hemispherical charge was point detonated at its centre whereas a cylindrical shape was detonated at the centre of an upper or lower plane. Numerical simulations of near field burst were conducted using LS-DYNA software. During numerical tests a pressure fields were determined for different shapes of explosive charges as well as the pressure waveforms at points located 1000 mm from a centre. Additionally, reference pressure history curves from LOAD_BLAST_ENHANCED procedure were calculated.

The Baltic Sea belongs to a global system of protected area and has a status of Particularly Sensitive Sea Area (PSSA) which results in a mechanism for strict control on International shipping activities within designated areas through the UN International Maritime Organization (IMO). Countries can declare such areas, and then establish rules for their protection. Additionaly almost the entire Polish coastline has been notified to the European Natura 2000 sites. Inside coastal NATURA 2000 areas some places are covered by increased protection because of belonging to a system of coastal and marine Baltic Sea Protected Areas (HELCOM BSPA). On the other hand intensive shiping in the vicinity of the Polish coast, high population density in the coast, tourism as well as coastal and marine industry necessitate special attention in relation to environment protection. Therefore, inter alia, novel techniques for the surveillance of purity of coast and coastal water are desirable. In the case of large spill - existing combating system provides only partly reducing ofamount of oil entering the sea environment. Elimination ofa greatest number of small oil spillages or discharges is possible, if well developed techniques and organization systems is used. The paper presents pre-project assumptions for small multifunctional ship designed for inshore activity — especially for port inspections and service, as well as for removal of floating and submerged rubbish and combating small oil spillages. We have analyzed possibility to achieve expected exploitive features of the ship using present knowledge for construction of small ship hulls applying principles of engine and navigational equipment steeringfor choosing the best route and for optimization the water surface cleaning-works as well as to minimize the energy consumption. We expect, that this ship - owing to main designations thanks to modern technical equipment and sophisticated software -will also fulfill conditions as an educational or as a training vessel.

Mining transport system based on the use of haul trucks should result from thorough analysis of technical and operating issues – which can have a crucial impact on the cost of minerals extraction. This selection should consider hitherto disregarded criteria, such as technical infallibility, operating parameters like mean operating time between failures (MTBF), mean failure intensity and fault modes and effect analysis etc. Considering the above issues, the following article is an attempt to analyse operating parameters of transport fleet of haul trucks for mineral resource in surface mining. Diagram of the typology of technical and operational haul truck states; source: own study; mean failure intensity graph and mean failure intensity graph for the total observation time; relationships between mean expected time between consecutive failures of specific object and (MTBF) mean value of the time, in which specific equipment is in the down time due to a failure are presented in the article. The MTBF index is a basic parameter helpful to determine dependability and can be used for logistic planning, in particular in the field of spare parts. This index allows determining the cost of object use throughout its entire life cycle.

High accident index in Poland, including one of the highest death rates in EU, forces undertaking the intense works in order to improve traffic safety. Published road accident statistics indicate that the most dangerous accidents include a vehicle collision with a tree, post or other road object. The road safety barriers make the road infrastructure elements that can signiflcantly protect against that type of accidents. The work presents basie tasks and requirements imposed on the barriers. Problems related to a proper selection of the barriers have been also highlighted. The tools facilitating the barrier design include numerical modelling. The modelling has been done by means of the LS-DYNA software, using the finite element method. A general structure and a developed barrier model as well as vehicle model have been presented. The conditions of the numerical tests have been also specifled. The work presents the results of influence of car impact angle with a rigid safety barrier. Presented results refer to a car o f mas s of 900 kg, making a bas is for the tests of the limiting systems for several limiting levels: including normal limit N2 (according to EN 1317-2). Compared to standard requirements, the scope of numerical tests has been extended by other car impact angle values. The work presents vehicle trajectories and deformations of their bodies. It also includes examples of velocities and acceleration courses and acceleration severity indexes (ASI) calculated on their basis. Obtained results indicate that the barrier location angle has a high influence on the safety level ofthe car passengers as well as on the car motion trajectory after collision

The work describes the experimental test methodology and results obtained during the experimental crash tests involving passenger cars and the prototype concrete protective barrier, which was built according to the original design prepared by the authors of this article. The crash tests involving a vehicle and the protective barrier cover the experiment results in three basic areas: severity ofthe collision impact on vehicle passengers, the impact on a vehicle and deformation of the road protective system. Applied testing procedures meet the requirements of the national standards, that make the equivalents of the European standards EN-1317-1:1998, EN-1317-2:1998, EN-J 317-3:2000. The tests have been performed for selected crash criteria (TB11 and TB32), for a normal restrain level (N2), using three passenger's cars (Dodge Neon and 2 units of Suzuki Swift). Applied testing procedures meet the requirements of the national standards [1-5]. The work presents examples of experimental test results in three basie areas: intensity of the crash impact on the vehicle passengers, the impact on a vehicle and deformation of the road protective system. The test results have been presented in a form of courses of speeds and accelerations along the vehicle body axes x, y, z. Acceleration severity index (ASI), theoretical head impact velocity (THIV), post-impact head delay (PHD), vehicle cabin deformation index (VCDI) and deformation levels of the road protective system (W) have been also defined.

The present development of a basic science, including physics of stimulated emission of light, opens up new diagnostic possibilities in relation to the quality of oils, including marine fuels and lubricants. In complicated chemical composition of oils both light absorbing compounds and compounds that emit light (fluorescent) are included. This causes the formation of complex structures in the spectral plots of fluorescence intensity as a function of wavelength of light exciting fluorescence and as a function of the wavelength of light emitted. Since the fluorescence excitation occurs in a short time of its disappearance. The shape of the fluorescence decay function depends on the chemical composition of oil, therefore, includes a mention of its kind, quality, level of degradation, and the like. In this paper exemplary charts of the intensity decay curves in different parts of the fluorescence spectra are shown (for light fuel). Presented charts are obtained using the experimental device constructed in Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences (Germany) and are the attempt to use ability of oil substance to manifest its composition in the form of the fluorescence decay curve. An analysis of the chart shows that decay of fluorescence in this case is described by biexponential curve, therefore a kind of oil can be represented by two numerical values - two decay time constants. Operational use of this method will be possible only after a comparative study of different types and quality of oil in relation to the shape of the fluorescence decay curves.

Military vehicles are mostly designed in order to provide effective execution of tasks in regions of expected actions and operation conditions. During execution of projects, resulting from participation in peace making and stabilization missions, military vehicles are subject to the impact of various mines and improvised explosives. In many cases, the explosive material mass included in the explosive charges affecting the vehicles significantly exceeds the values specified in standards defining the required protection levels assumed at the design stage. The above determines the search for additional shields or energy-absorbing elements reducing the effects of such influence. Information concerning design solutions is usually classified or very limited. Majority of companies dealing with that issue provides information concerning the scope of their business, highlighting the military area thus high efficiency of their protective solutions, possibly presenting a general outline of a particular solution. The tests described in the article are related to the project of a high-altitude scientific rocket, which is expected to be built in the Institute of Aviation. The unguided rocket will be launched from a platform with a relatively long start beam and will be supported by slides at the start. Because of the relatively high rocket mass and nearly horizontal start needed for initial rocket tests, its slides will be under extremely high load defined as a combination of pressure and sliding velocity. In addition to the mechanical load, the slides will be also loaded thermally because of the friction in a pair: slide-guide rail (made of hard-anodized aluminium alloy). This leads to rapid wear of the slides. The aim of the tests was to establish what the friction coefficient between the slide and the guide rail is (as function of mechanical load) and how big slide-wear in a single work cycle (simulation of a single rocket launch) is. The tests were performed for few material samples: two modern plastics used in so-called “linear systems” (offered by a firm, which is one of the leaders on this market), samples made of well-known and widely used materials like cotton-phenolic textolite and well-known samples of material called Teflon (PTFE – polytetrafluoroethylene) with 15% addition of graphite. Results show that the temperature resistant plastic used in general linear systems at our condition are on the verge of wear according to our model. Textolite and Teflon with graphite addition have better characteristics of wear. They can be safely used as material of slides.

The main task for natural marine environment protection is to prevent the inflow of various contaminants including oil substances and the real challenge is the ability to rapidly detect these pollutants. Moreover important is to find the source or the maker of the oil spill. In this paper, we consider fundamental physical aspects in the area of possibility of monitoring the natural marine ecosystem based on fluorescence spectroscopy. We utilize the fluorescence ability of numerous oil components – mainly polycyclic hydrocarbons. The paper concerns the spectrofluorimetric characterization of oils have been in use during exploitation of the marine fleet, i.e. lubricate oil, fuels, transformer and hydraulic oils as well as crude oils or their residues. Every kind of oil has a chance to enter the marine environment, especially in a case of ship emergency or after collision with other vessel ore shoreline structure as well as when ship enters the stranding. After discharge of oil, some of oil components are dissolved in the water, bacteria or photochemical reactions, which results in transformation of composition of oil, degrade some. Fluorescence spectrometer Perkin Elmer LS55 was applied to obtain the fluorescence spectra using different excitation wavelength in the range from 240 nm to 500 nm. We discuss the changes of the shapes of excitationemission spectra (EEMs) of various types of oil and the EEMs spectra after contact of oil with seawater as an oil-inwater emulsion, which is the most frequent form of oil in the water column. Significant changes in the shape of spectra and displacement of the peaks are observed.

This paper presents issues related to the process of designing a 30-feet container to be used as a mobile laboratory for collecting the environmental samples and identification of biological threats. Tactical and technical assumptions for the container, taking into account the requirements of the transport and movement of the army at long distances and in the difficult areas by means of transport characterized by increased traction properties, made the starting point. A possible way of relocation on the land roads using commonly available and military means of transport, possibilities of loading and unloading using the autonomic system and automatic levelling system are described. It describes the process of creating the MES model of the supporting structure and assumptions taken for that purpose. The basic assumption included invariability of shape, geometry and dimensions of a container compared to containers recognized in the world as the standard ones. Some results of numerical calculations carried out at two stages are presented. At the first stage, the issues on the own values were solved. Frequencies of own vibrations and associated forms of vibrations were identified. At the second stage, forced container vibrations were analysed. Resistance calculations were performed for the supporting structure of the container in the aspect of evaluation of the strain condition of the whole structure, as well as its components for assumed load variants. A variability of resistance calculations takes into account such cases as the influence of the under-container trailer riding on the uneven ground, loading and unloading a container from a trailer using autonomous system, diversity of loads on the supports resulting from the change of the ground density under the supports. A preliminary analysis of container transport possibilities and transport unit traction properties have been also carried out.
