Opis:
A wide use of common-rail injection systems in vehicles made it necessary to develop effective methods of diagnosing and repair of their subassemblies. The paper presents problems connected with diagnosing of malfunctions and regeneration of common-rail system injectors with the use of testing tables. Due to precise workmanship and strong forces, the systems are particularly exposed to damage most often caused by the application of fuels of inadequate quality. Early detection of damage symptoms may contribute to considerable decrease of costs of repair without entailing any failures of other components of the system. The authors discuss the most common methods of evaluation of the condition allowing a quick and explicit identification, whether a given injector has been damaged or not. Further deliberations lead to the determination of possible regeneration of individual generation systems of various manufacturers. The authors also present basic activities of the regeneration process and tests made with the use of testing tables. The work presents results of tests performed on a new injector with the use of testing equipment of various manufacturers. Discussion on obtained results leads to conclusions that, due to little recurrence and insufficient accuracy of measurements, possibilities of clear evaluation of technical condition of injectors is greatly limited.

Opis:
A turbocharger is a relatively simple, but very precisely made component working in conditions, which should be considered hard. Due to hard working conditions, among others: high exhaust temperatures, very high rotational speeds reaching up to 250 000 rpm, precise design and difficult assembly, turbochargers should be considered particularly subject to damage and failure. It is confirmed by data showing an increasing number of failures of such components, which is caused, among others, by the increasing number of vehicles equipped with turbochargers. The considerable cost of a new turbocharger and its relatively easy disassembly coupled with easy access to spare parts in Poland result in establishing of ever more new companies remanufacturing this type of device. The effectiveness of repairs carried out in such plants varies strongly, often being of poor quality due to lack of knowledge, both practical and theoretical, inadequate training of personnel, and many other factors. A common problem, faced by the companies remanufacturing turbochargers, is the lack of tools allowing to reliably checking the selected parameters relevant for subsequent use of remanufactured components. In connection to that in article have been presented identification of common failures occur in turbochargers. Moreover, conception of multi-functional diagnostic test stand have been also presented. Such method will be an extremely useful tool for verifying the effectiveness of repairs, which will be important in terms of their subsequent use (confirmation, that the repair has been performed properly), environmental protection and in case of conflict between the customer and the company (certifying, that the repair has been performed properly). No equipment or other technological solution enabling to achieve aims described above in practice is produced in Poland or abroad.

Opis:
The subject of the article is the identification of factors behind the incorrect operation of a car turbocharger that, in longer perspective, lead to the damage of the device. Due to the operating principle and design features, the device works with many engine systems – intake, exhaust, lubrication systems and also, increasingly more often, with the cooling system. A multitude of relations, complexity, and working conditions are reasons due to which the device is sensitive to disturbances of quality parameters of the working media (e.g. oil). In the article based on the selected causes of damage of turbochargers, we focused on the following initiating event, concerning the bearings lubrication system, which is clogged oil strainer. The authors aims at performing an analysis allowing to increase the detectability of emerging malfunctions that lead to deterioration of operating conditions of the device. For this task tool such as ETA (Event Tree Analysis) was used. It is a tool for assessing system and process safety. It facilitates detecting potential risks, as well as relations existing between actions or events. This method explores the path from the initiating event to the outcome (most often representing the immobilization of the tested object), with particular emphasis on intermediate stages affecting the technical condition of the object. Unlike the FTA analyses, which have a deductive nature, the ETA analysis is inductive. The analysis of the obtained results, supported with validation by means of ETA, allowed proving that, given the current state of knowledge and advancements in technology, it is possible to apply additional sensors for monitoring the operation of a turbocharger. The proposed modifications were considered minor design changes that significantly increase the reliability of the device.

Opis:
Piston displacement pumps use in common rail fuel injection systems generates very high pressure, reaching even 300 MPa. Maintaining such a high pressure is possible thanks to very precise machining resulting in as little clearance between the piston-cylinder assemblies. Due to very high forces operating in the systems and relatively unfavourable lubrication conditions resulting from using fuel as lubricants, the pumps are subject to wear and consequently lose their operating parameters. The high cost of production of the pumps, resulting from their technological advancement, forced their manufacturers to introduce technologies for diagnosing and regenerating them. The diagnostics consists in removing the pump from the engine and having it verified using a test bed. The first stage consists of evaluating the pump’s flow at null pressure; follow by evaluation of its maximal delivery for the pressure of 100 MPa. The obtained values are compared to the values achieved by a new pump. The effect of negative evaluation on a test bed is the disassembly of the pump, verification of the condition of its parts and replacement of the damaged elements. The authors examined new and used pumps on a tested, aiming to determine the characteristics of delivery of a pump for various pressures. The objective of the research was to identify the actual points in the pump’s operation at which the delivery drops the most due to the wear. The highest difference in delivery was found to exist for the maximal compression pressure. The obtained results were analysed and the possibility of changing the pump diagnostics procedure with the use of a test bed was determined.

Opis:
Common rail (CR) injection systems have been universally applied in passenger car engines for twenty years. Moreover, they are applied on a wide scale in trucks, machinery and stationary engines. They have many advantages such as very good fuel spraying due to high injection pressure, injection dose distribution to several smaller, or less heat generation compared to traditional systems. At the same time, the use of this type of system involves a number of problems. They are characterized, among other things, by the high cost of manufacturing and the high sensitivity to changes in the quality of the used fuel. The most important component of the common rail injection system is the high-pressure injection pump. The authors propose a new, alternative pump design with the hypocycloid drive – the article presents the issue of using this type of pump. Further sections describe the design of a pump utilizing a hypocycloid mechanism; demonstrate beneficial functional features and present selected results of the assembly's dynamic simulation. The pump is also characterized by the possibility of multiplying the piston's pitch while maintaining its diameter. It makes it possible to obtain much greater discharge per operating cycle. Taking into account the considerable quantity of fuel transferring by the pump, was also possible to propose an idea of use of hydraulic booster in such pump. In this field, the authors have presented schematic diagram of a pressure booster with a description of its operation.
