Opis:
The results of experimental investigations and the analyses of numeric adhesive materials and their joints were introduced in the work. Experimental investigations concerned the fatigue life of materials and adhesive joints and their static long-time life, however numeric analyses were aimed at explanation of effects appearing during experimental investigations. It found that the finite element method enables recognition the effects appearing while adhesive bond is loaded (short-term, long-lasting, periodically variable and static), and this way to forecasting their life. The valuable advantage of using FEM in analysis of the short-term strength and fatigue or long-lasting life adhesive bonds there is also an option of shortening or even replacing some time-consuming experimental tests with such kind of analysis. In investigations, thanks to using of FEM, was successful to explain cause of higher short-term strength and fatigue life of overlap joints made of steel sheet in the comparison with performed of alloy aluminum sheet and the mechanizm destruction of roller specimen, performed from adhesive materials, loading on axial compression cyclically in which cracks occurred along the generating line. The cause of the essential difference of the static long-lasting life adhesive bonds (about comparable short-term strength), which the joints were made from epoxy adhesive only and joints made from epoxy plastic reinforcement the glass fabric was also explain.

Opis:
The research described in this article is part of investigating impact strength in block adhesive joints. The authors checked experimentally the effect, on the test results, of the manner of surface preparation and compressive strength and Young’s modulus of an adhesive used to make the connection. The experimental testing was carried out with an impact pendulum tool, designed to examine adhesive joints. During such testing, the energy used to tear off the upper part of the specimen, that is the energy lost by the dropping device, is the measure of the impact strength of an adhesive connection. The elements of the samples were made with an aluminum alloy 2017A. In the investigations, the authors used non-normative samples whose upper element was a cylinder rather than a cuboid, as advised in the norm. The adhesive joints were made using epoxy adhesive Loctite, named EA 3421, or an adhesive composition Epidian 57 with Z1 hardener. The glued elements were prepared by treating the surfaces for bonding by means of the stream-abrasive processing. The abrasive mediums were three types of materials of different gradation. In addition, two series of samples were prepared using roughening by sandpaper. For control samples, the authors made joints, in which the surfaces for bonding became degreased merely by petroleum ether. The results of the experimental studies indicate that the impact strength of adhesive joints is dependent on the manner of preparation of the bonded elements as well as on the longitudinal modulus of elasticity of the adhesive, which was used to make the connection.

Opis:
In the paper, the problems of adhesive layer effort was considered. The experimental tests of adhesives bonds were conducted in order to determine breaking loads. A technique a finite element mesh of adhesive layer subjected to shearing was proposed. Next the numerical calculations were conducted in order to determine distribution of stresses in adhesive layers at breaking loads. The components of stress tensor were used for the analytical calculations of reduced stresses according to seven hypotheses. It was found out that the maximal principal positive stresses hypothesis, the maximum principal strain hypothesis and the strain energy hypothesis make possible to estimate the adhesive layer effort with similar accuracy. Shape and the dimensions of the steel (S355J2G3) single lap specimen, the compression curves for Araldite AW 136H, the maximal principal stress values in the most loaded element of the adhesive layer depending on the elements' dimensions, modelling versions of the tree-layer adhesive layer's edges, distribution of the maximal principal stresses along edge section, comparison of the maximal principal stress distribution along adhesive layer's length, the stress-strain curve for Belzona 1111 adhesive and for Epidian57/Z1 adhesive, distribution of maximum principal stresses in adhesive layer of single lap bond subjected to shearing, are presented in the paper.
