Opis:
Results of studies that aim was to develop a diagnostic method for WOLA marine diesel engines type H are presented in this paper. These engines are high-speed type units used to drive small vessels or more often to drive ship generators. Polish Navy is operating significant number engines of this type. Motors of this type do not have indicator valves, which complicates the assessment of their technical condition in exploitation. These engines also, because of their age, are relatively poorly equipped in control and measurement devices. In the era of cost reduction in operation of marine equipment there is also tendency to reduce the cost of maintenance and repair of diesel engines. One way to avoid malfunction of the motor can be systematic monitoring of the technical condition of selected critical systems using reliable diagnostic methods. Polish Naval Academy (PNA) in Gdynia for years has been doing research on methods of diagnosing marine internal combustion engines. In recent years, a diagnostic method for high-speed diesel engines based on the analysis of envelope of vibration accelerations generated by the valve gear mechanism and fuel system of WOLA type H engines has been developed. Preliminary tests were carried out on a six-cylinder WOLA engine type 57H6Aa in the Marine Power Plant Operation Laboratory in PNA. Verification tests were conducted on twelve-cylinders WOLA engines of the same type on navy vessels. The developed method allows determine the angles of opening and closing the fuel injection valves and angles of closing intake and exhaust valves during engine operation. Using this method it could not be clearly determined opening angles of intake and exhaust valves.

Modern APCs (armoured personnel carrier) have similar terrain capability. Level of APCs adjustment to movement in a hard terrain conditions is the function of numerous indicators of its construction including e.g. correction of, usually specific, conditions for technical solutions of suspension or engine. It is possible to acquire global numericał indicator of APC utility evaluation, basing on e.g. evaluation of the terrain mobility. Such indicator is the objective way to estimate the level of fulfilling the technical specification of subject subgroup for tactical - technical specification by the APC construction. In the article is presented the proposal of methodical utility evaluation for modern APC chassis, which is based on account of proposed numerical indicators. Using the set indicators, we've provided comparison of directed and global evaluation of AMY Patria, towards other modern APCs. In the paper formulas of these indicators are described. The results of evaluation are presented on charts as well ensample types of terrain trials are shown on pictures.

Opis:
The common demands for environmental protection in shipping are being recognized by IMO, through development of the rules with respect to SOx and NOx. This paper investigates the results of fuel injection variables, affecting cylinder process performance and exhaust gas emission. The effect of injection assembly design attributed on NO emission was estimated. The similar slow speed, large bore MAN B&W engines performance were compared. The main factors used for evaluation were: fuel consumption, rotational speed, mean and maximum in-cylinder pressures and total concentrations of NOx, CO2, O2i CO, and HC. The engines performance and NO emission were compared with conventional 6S60MC-C and latest — electronically controlled 7S60ME-C. The CFD simulation of combustion and pollutant formation was created to represent processes of a marine large bore engine. The SMC-C engine operation and standard injection nozzle design was taken as a baseline for comparison with measured NO concentration. The predicted cylinder pressures showed reasonable agreement with experimental measurements. The predictive ability of used CFD simulation package was found to be quantitatively insufficient in terms of NOx emission. However, the predicted NO emission exhibits similar sensitivity with experiment results. The quantitative set of reference data for the validation of simulation results needs to be substantially improved. The determination offuel injection and cylinder pressure history can be identified as the most important source of inaccuracy. Finally, weighted NOx specific emission factor for both engines shows close value, sufficiently placed against IMO limit presented in Fig. 11. The results are promising and show that controlled combustion process is capable of fulfilling present and future NOx emission requirements. Modern marine engines are designed with adjustable components to allow the engine to be adjusted for maximum efficiency or NOx weighted emission factor when used in particular application.

At this paper, there were compared three conceptions of boundary conditions and their definition at partially opened pipes. This is typical at inlet and exhaust pipes of internal combustion engines and piston compressors. At an introduction there were listed the current state of affairs at a one dimensional modelling pulsations according to the Method of Characteristics (MOC). Subsequently, there was presented the main idea of MOC. At the third chapter there were presented general guidelines at initial and boundary conditions definition. Next there are three descriptions of the analyzed problem. Firstly, there was presented partially open end phenomena at space and stage plane. Secondly, there was shown the theory of acoustic wave propagation with description of stage waves at analyzed ends of pipe. Lastly, there is a new conception of constant pressure valve boundary conditions, which is the synthesis of the both mentioned earlier. At the fourth paragraph there was shortly presented existing test rig dedicated to research of pulsating flow in pipes. This test rig was built at Flow Metrology Division of Lodz University of Technology [9]. At the second part of this chapter there were shown main assumption of elaborated simulation algorithm at Matlab Simulink environment. Lastly there were discussed simulation results compared with presented conceptions of boundary conditions.

Opis:
The paper is focusing on combustion characteristics for small diesel engine by using emulsified blend fuels of vegetable oil and light oil. Target is to achieve low emissions and low fuel consumption for internal combustion engines. The fuels used in this study are light oil, blend fuels [light oil + coconut oil, light oil + palm oil], and emulsified fuels [light oil + water, blend fuels + water]. Mean increasing rate of pressure is calculated from the value which subtracted initial pressure from maximum burning pressure divided by total burning time. The mean increasing ratio of pressure is calculated from the value which subtracted initial pressure from maximum burning pressure divided by the total burning time. The emissions in exhaust gas are measured with an analyzer of exhaust gas. The data of 30 tests for each engine revolutions were averaged arithmetically. Experimental approach and results have been presented by details. The main conclusions are as follows: it is possible to control the combustion behaviour by using blend fuels and emulsified blend fuels for small diesel engine; the maximum burning pressure of emulsified blend fuels increases at low engine speed; the CO emission of blend fuels is smaller than that of light oil; the NOX emission of emulsified coconut blend fuel and emulsified palm blend fuel is smaller than that of light oil; the CO emission of emulsified Coconut-Palm blend fuel is equal to that of light oil at low engine speed.

Opis:
In practical gasoline engines it is necessary to achieve low emissions and low fuel consumptions with high load operation. Several techniques were developed for reducing the emissions and the fuel consumptions from gasoline engines, such as EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) and Ultra lean combustion [1, 2]. Especially, in automotive gasoline engines, low-particulate and low-NOx emissions are very much needed by using alcohol blend fuels and vegetable oil. Nevertheless, there are only few data available for reducing the emissions and fuel consumptions of small gasoline engines by using blended fuels. As the first step in this study, experiments have been carried out to examine the influence of alcohol-blended fuels on combustion characteristics for small gasoline engines. The fuels used in this study are gasoline, methanol, ethanol, propanol and butanol. The addition of alcohol ratio are changed by mixing the volume of alcohol in gasoline and the addition ratios are from 0 to 30 vol% in the fuel. The main conclusions are as follows: 1) The NOx emissions for all the alcohol blend fuels are smaller than that of gasoline. 2) The heat release rate increases with addition of alcohol fuel under higher load conditions for small gasoline engines.

Burnishing technology is a technology of surface plastic forming of machine parts. The paper presents experimental research of burnishing process of the steel tube holes. Used tools to burnishing technology are hard and smooth surface. Burnishing elements are of ball, roll and disk. Burnishing be flat surfaces, and cylindrical shape. Burnished surfaces are cylindrical outer and inner. Because of the type of the force can be divided into static and dynamic burnishing. Due to the kinematics can be divided into sliding and roller burnishing. Occurrence of moving parts in direct contact with the material qualifies for the group process of burnishing rolling. The sliding burnishing design element property is part of the work surface burnished permanently attached to the handle. Burnishing is used as a finishing strengthens and smoothness can be realized on the universal machine tools and machining centres, effectively replaces the machining operations, such as grinding, reaming, honing and lapping. The precise tube holes are made mostly methods abrasive machining. Machining these methods can usually maintain a within the tolerances established by the constructor size and shape and surface roughness. However, there is not achieved a satisfactory state surface layer of tube holes. Improve the properties of the surface layer can be obtained after application, as finishing, broaching the slide burnishing. It consists in pushing through the machined hole tool in the shape of a sphere or a special plunger mandrel. After burnishing broaching is increased diameter, reduced roughness surface and improve the physical properties work piece surface layer of the tube holes. Burnishing broaching process can increase the dimensional accuracy of tube holes, reducing the surface roughness, the strengthening of the surface layer, compressive residual stresses constitution. Compressive internal stresses substantially influence the fatigue life of machine parts. A burnishing broaching is carry out by a ball. In the paper presents results measurements roughness and impact of the relative strain ratio on the surface layer after burnishing broaching process.

The term “fouling” refers to a substance, which settles on the heat transfer surface and causes the rise of thermal resistance to the heat transfer process. Sometimes, fouling is regarded as deposit but that term should be only used to fouling in the form of solid. Taking the traditional division of matter states as a criterion for fouling classification, there are three sorts of fouling: the solid ones, e.g. boiler scale, metal oxides, mud; the liquid ones, e.g. lubricating turbine oil and the volatile ones, air as for example an inert gas. Despite maintaining the recommended methods of correction for the steam power plants working agents, such as: the feed water, the boiler water, the condensate and the water vapour, for example by using the phosphate-ammonia correction, both corrosion and deposition phenomena occur in the water and the steam sides of the heat exchanger. Recognition of the type and the amounts of deposits gathered on heat transfer surfaces of the steam power plants heat exchangers is used within the thermal-flow diagnostics and also supports the planning of overhaul and routine repair of these devices. The results of the author’s own experimental research based on the method of spectral analysis were presented in the paper. The study was carried out in order to identify the type of fouling settled on both the outer side (steam side) and the internal side (waterside) on the heat transfer surfaces.

Technological quality of machine components is dependent on the type of finishing machines and applied technological parameters. After finishing, you can ultimately determine the performance characteristics of the surface layer, which have a decisive influence on the durability of machine components. Burnishing processing technology is proposed using burnisher discoid (NK-01) in order to give adequate operational characteristics of the shafts neck centrifugal pumps for sea water used in marine power plants. The burnishing is the type of superficial plastic processing realized near use cutting off as finishing off processing machine tools, strengthening and formative. Burnishing can replace traditional methods of finishing such as grinding, honing and super finishing and even. The use in building of machines finds the row of elements about folded shape, the variables which are subject on burden. Fatigue strength of such elements can burnishing be enlarged across processing, and their dependent durability has been for many factors. In the construction machinery is used a number of elements of complex shape, which are exposed to variable loads (crankshafts, drive shafts and camshafts). Fatigue resistance of such elements used in shipbuilding can be improved by burnishing. It was the aim of paper the determination the influence of radius of curve roll burnishing on strain hardening of surface layer of shafts neck from stainless steel X5CrNiMo17-12-2 for centrifugal pumps.

Finally on field real headlamp photometric values could be significantly different than expected because depends on factors as light source geometry tolerance, headlamp design sensitivity for filament geometry, possible precision of aiming/levelling method. Moreover drivers and services awareness of this situation is not meaningful. As result safety during nighttime traffic is significantly deteriorated. In paper are described important factors concerned way of defining present type approval requirements. It concern the way of defining of photometric criteria for vertical measuring screen in fixed distance, choice of points and zones for assessment, limits and their restrictions. Also differentiation of requirement in dependence on light source used is analysed as well as some other important factors. The important issue is glare caused by headlights and their restriction in type approval requirements. It is also analysed influence on headlights performance on field conditions as result of lack of reference to imperfect but defined type approval photometric requirements. The visual aiming on the base of cut-off line and subjective judgement is the only way to allow use of vehicle. Moreover as well service as drivers believes that this is sufficient for safety driving at night with speeds allowed by common road traffic law.

Results presented in the article regard the research on a turbocharged dual-fuel CI engine operating on propane. The research indicated that such engine might operate even if 70% of the standard fuel energy is replaced by propane. The research indicated that at such high share of the gaseous fuel, there is necessary to adjust diesel fuel injection parameters but it is important that there is no need to change the engine structure. Injection parameters may be adjusted in a wide range due to the modern fuelling system of the common rail type. The investigated engine was equipped with such system. Adjustments regarding the fuel charge division, fuel charge quantities, and injection timing enabled to influence combustion in such way to obtain its specific parameters, i.e. maximum combustion pressure, rate of pressure rise, maximum pressure, and the burn out ratio similar to those obtained for diesel fuel operation. The obtained results were presented in form of adjustment characteristics of the injection timing of diesel fuel pilot dose for a few chosen values of the boost pressure as well as injection timing of the main dose. The investigations were carried out for three values of the boost pressure, i.e. 200; 400 and 600 [mbar] but also for the naturally aspirated version. Injection timing of the first dose varied in a broad range and depended on the boost pressure. Injection timing of the second dose varied in a narrower range, mainly due to considerable changes in the combustion process. The obtained results answered a number of questions regarding the strategy of selection of diesel fuel injection parameters taking into consideration engine performances as well as combustion at a high share of the gaseous fuel.

Opis:
There are many replacements of headlamps on the market. Offered replacements parts should be “identical” as original and type approved. In fact it means that should have similar to original outside appearance and mounting fixtures and external size allowing for replace original one. From legal point of view to be placed in vehicle replacement headlamp should be type approved. Most important aftermarket criterion is low price. They are often offered for half or even less of original components price. From the other side the replacements can have less performance than original. When final customer want to make comparison between original and aftermarket headlamp it is a problem because there is no standard procedure or information allowing to compare performance. Similar problem have components wholesalers or end sellers. It is also important for traffic safety because many of contemporary headlamps meet some type approval requirements with significant surplus. To try solve this problem was developed method on the base measurements done using “Headlights’ analyser”. This device allow for measurements of illumination distribution of beam pattern. Appropriate analysis of recalculated illuminance can give important information allowing for comparison beam patterns of different headlamps, especially replacement. This method is based on as much as possible identical aiming of each headlamp using analytical finding of cut-off line than comparing important characteristics of road illumination and glare.
