Opis:
This paper presents the analysis of the world source letters [1-60] about liquid lubricants for lubrication of the tribological nodes in space engineering for instance: mineral oils, synthetic hydrocarbons, silicones, perfluoropolyethers (PEPEs), ionic liquids, silicic hydrocarbons. Requirements for liquid lubricants in space applications and research methods for their testing are characterized, among others: four-ball vacuum apparatus and pin-on-disk friction tester for tests in vacuum. The development trends of liquid lubricants for space applications are described, too, e.g. direction of development of lubricant substances, development of lubricating substances research and lubrication technologies for space engineering in the future (lubrication systems in inert atmosphere, mist lubrication, lubrication with fine grade powder, deposition of liquid lubricant vapours, gas bearings, magnetic bearings. The existing research methods are imperfect. Till now it is impossible to simulate many factors occurring in space (eg. State of weightlessness, the atmosphere containing the atom oxygen). It is hard to determine precisely (predict) the tribological node wear. There fore the research works on improvement of the existing test stations and analytical, methods and creation of new methods of tests and analysis are necessary.

The paper presents a methodology of finite element (FE) modelling and simulation of the bridge – track – moving high-speed train system using CAE systems. Two composite (reinforce-concrete – steel) bridges were considered. The span length was equal to 15 and 21 meters, respectively. Bridges selected for the study belong to the proposed series of bridges with the span length of 15 to 27 meters stepped by 3 meters. Full symmetry of the bridges was assumed. RC platform was homogenized since the rebars were distributed quasi-uniformly in the specified platform sections. The FE model of a bridge superstructure consisted of 4-node shell elements (main beams) and 8-node 48 DOF solid elements (reinforced concrete platform). RAIL_TRACK and RAIL_TRAIN LS-DYNA’s modules were applied for simulating the moving train – track interaction. Ballasted track with the rectilinear rail-line axis was taken into consideration. German ICE-3 train running at velocity of 200–300 km/h was selected as a representative for the study. All mass components of the train FE model were treated as rigid bodies. Symmetric vibrations of the train units were assumed with respect to the main longitudinal vertical plane of symmetry of the system. Nodal displacement and longitudinal normal stress in shell elements were registered during the FE analysis. The results were depicted in the form of time histories for selected velocities. In addition, extreme values of vertical deflections and normal stress were compiled and presented a function of train velocity. It allowed to assess the dynamic response of the bridge depending on its span length. Contours of resultant displacement for the RC platform was also presented.

Polymers found regard among engineers and researcher their special proprieties. Now, we find using the polymers at present in the most advanced technically the branches of industry. In construction of machines, more and more often are practical used hyperdeform materials. The group of construction materials, called hyperdeformable, includes among others: elastomers, plastics made based on rubber, thermoplastic structures, such as polycarbonate, gels and sols, composites and foams: open and closed pores. Porous structures are produced on the basis of different materials, synthetic thermoplastic polymers and thermosetting. The problem of porous materials is taken in many research centres in the world. Porous materials (also called cellular plastics, foam plastics or foamed plastics) include gas phase dispersed in a solid phase of polymeric material. Properties of such systems depend on the properties of the polymer warp and cell structure comprising the gas phase. Approach previously used to anticipate and interpret the behaviour of the hyperdeformable structures, using the theory of hyperelastic materials, does not resolve the issue because it only describes the elastic properties. The article presents an original methodology developed structural identification the viscoelastic properties of hyperdeformable materials, and in particular modern construction materials from the group of plastics and composites of elastomers, foams, etc

Opis:
Design of optimal machines and off-road vehicles requires, among others the knowledge of dynamic interaction of the traction components with soil. Due to the lack of constitutive equation of soil, in practice the research centres worldwide use the so-called process analogues, i.e. the special test devices. These devices however are used only for static tests and are burdened with the scale error. They are also often subject to the so-called wall effect and bulldozing effect. The research conducted in The Department of Off-Road Machine and Vehicle Engineering has shown that in the dynamic interaction of traction components or working tools with soil a substantial strengthening of cohesive soils, which can cause even several times increase in their strength, which significantly changes the commonly used relationships based on static tests. In the article, the unique on the international scale test equipment developed in the Department of Off-Road Machine and Vehicle Engineering for experimental identification of dynamic soil strength parameters is shown. In addition, the initial results of the tests obtained with this device in the laboratory and in situ are presented. The practical impact of dynamic strengthening of soil are presented as opposite to the conventional methods, at the example of traction forces generated by the tracked undercarriage estimated by virtue of an undercarriage analytical model.

The main aim of this study is to carry out dynamic finite element analysis of a collision between shunting locomotive and a passenger car. Numerical simulations include side impact of the running locomotive in the vehicle situated across the track on a level crossing. A considered locomotive based on a popular diesel-electric shunting locomotive SM42 but it was slightly modernized in comparison with the original. Finite element model of the locomotive was developed by the authors whereas the vehicle FE model was download from the National Crashworthiness Analysis Center database and it was dedicated to the crash/impact analyses. FE analysis was carried out according to the PN-EN 15227 standard which provides crashworthiness requirements for railway vehicle bodies. However, additional objective of the analysis was to evaluate the behaviour of a small passenger car during the side impact with about 70-ton locomotive. A subcompact passenger car – Geo Metro – was selected as a representative for the study. One of the design collision scenario impact into low obstacle for railway vehicles operated on national and regional networks. LS-DYNA computer code was used for the simulations. The paper presents selected results of analysis generally focused on the locomotive frame behaviour. Contour of stress for the moment of time is presented. Moreover, time histories of selected parameters are depicted. The energy balance was also checked in order to confirm the accuracy of analysis.

Opis:
The main aim of this study is to develop a finite element model of the hybrid-shunting locomotive. Considered locomotive is based on a popular shunting locomotive in Poland – SM42. All components above the locomotive frame could be modified in comparison to the original object, whereas a chassis was essentially unchanged. Such solution allows the operators freely configure components e.g. diesel engine, generator, cooling module, cab etc., according to their own requirements. Works on the FE model were focused on very accurate reflection of the locomotive frame since the planned dynamic analyses include crash tests. FE model of the frame has a fine mesh and it is considered as a deformable component. Other segments of the vehicle are simplified and treated as rigid bodies mostly. FE model was developed on the basis of the locomotive CAD model. It was decided to transform the CAD model of the frame into the FE one applying the midsurface procedure. Such approach is correct since the locomotive frame is made of a large number of steel elements in the form of sheet metal plates and sections welded together. Altair Hyper Mesh software was used in the FE model developing process. Appropriate connections between respective components of the model e.g. wheelset – bogie, bogie – locomotive frame, were applied. Finally, the locomotive FE model consists of about 116 thousands of finite shell and solid elements and about 125 thousands of nodes. Dynamic analyses of the locomotive FE model will be carried out using LS-DYNA computer code.

A program and tools enabling general aviation operators in our country the exploitation of the piston engines oncondition has been developed in the Institute of Aviation. Apart from the existing and strictly supervised engine manuals tasks, the program introduces, among other things, new maintenance mandatory activities like engine parameter monitoring during cruise and climb and a way of assignation diagnostic tolerance limits for them. That has never been performed in the aviation piston engines maintenance practice. In order to improve such analysis a flight data recorder (FDR) EDM 900 has been installed on the DA20- C1 „Katana” aircraft equipped with IO-240-B engine, which will allow elimination of the pilot's read errors and examination of the changes in the parameters during the entire flight. This will enable estimating if at a certain time of the flight a specified engine parameter is not exceeding the permissible values. Parameters from cruise have to be recorded in the similar range of the engine rpm’s. The parameters are oil pressure, oil temperature, cylinder head temperature, EGT, fuel flow, outside air temperature, rpm and altitude. Lower and upper acceptable limit values should be set, in which they can be contained throughout engine life. Engineers should also observe the trend of their changes. This article shows results of the aviation piston engine parameters analysis taken from FDR for ground runs, take-offs and cruise flight phases.

Opis:
In real exploitational conditions marine gasturbine engine works at different rotation speeds determined by the required parameters of ship's movement. Conversion from one rotation speed to another is related to realization of unsteady energetic processes, determined by the gasodynamic mutual influence of compressor configurations. The values of working medium flow thermodynamic parameters undergo significant changes in time. To work out the qualitative and quantitative estimation of these changes it is necessary to define the dynamic equations, describing working medium flow through the gas passage of engine. In the next step it is necessary to resolve the defined equations for disturbances of steady cooperation of compressor configurations. This paper concerns the application of mathematical modelling methods to analyzing gas-dynamic processes in marine gas turbines. The influence of geometry changes in axial compressor flow passage on kinematical air flow characteristics is presented. The elaborated mathematical model will make it possible to realize - in the future -simulative investigations of gas-dynamic processes taking place in a compressor fitted with controllable guide vanes. Individual parametric features of every engine in service are identified by using expensive experimental tests, which are conditioned by many constructional and operational limitations. The dynamic development of computer technology, enables using it for numerical simulation of changeable technical state processes.

The issue of vibration damping occurs in many mechanical problems in the operation of various devices, in the automotive industry engineering, aerospace. In the case where damping by selection of the masses and dimensions is not possible due to various reasons or for other reasons it was abandoned, vibration dampers are used. Minimization of adverse impact of dynamic interaction effects is an important research and technical problem. Passive energy absorbers used today (complex of bumpers, passenger lifts buffers typically allows to the safe dissipation of energy within a certain range of loads. In the case of high-impact loading variability is desirable to use an adaptive energy absorption system capable of rapid change their dynamic characteristics. The main issue in the analysis of interactions impact of dynamic loads on objects is dispersion (dissipation) of kinetic energy during impact. In constructions of polymer composite structures the sources of energy dissipation are: matrix of polystructural viscoelasticity, morphology of material, defect of structure, thermoplastic and viscoplastic dumping. In construction of machines more and more often be practical used materials name hyper-elastic. It is a very important issue due to affect on the airplane and automotive brake design. Nowadays when new solution of brakes is being designed there is a need to take into account various factors influencing the design such as: weight, compatibility and flexibility of use in various aircraft, reliability and durability, ease of installation and maintenance, low-cost operation and low cost components, braking efficiency, short braking distance. All of these factors are taken into account when designing a prototype of the electric brake as well as economical factor of the design. It is also necessary to verify the design during its creation using experimental and laboratory test data from other similar designs. The aim of the paper is to discuss design process from the very beginning (i.e. by comparing features of the electric brakes with other types of brakes in order to show advantages and disadvantages of chosen solution) to the creation of a working demonstrator in future. The paper presents the main activities of the Institute of Aviation (IoA) in the field of chemical rocket propulsion. The relatively "fresh" research and development team performed many useful works within the last 5 years, starting from the strategy and ideas. Nowadays, the Space Technology Department of IoA acts as a member of international consortia realizing space projects, as well as itself working on its own assignments financed by the European Space Agency (ESA) and IoA funds. The important development aspect of rocket propulsion developed at IoA is the use of "green" propellants. These are chemicals, which are relatively safe for the environment and personnel, being a very promising alternative for storable toxic substances, e.g. hydrazine and derivatives, nitrogen tetroxide. R&D activities of STD are based on the use of Rocket Grade Hydrogen Peroxide (RGHP), also known as High Test Peroxide (HTP). This high-performance mono-propellant and oxidizer is regarded by European entities as one of the most promising candidates to replace hydrazine and its derivatives in the future. Due to numerous advantages, hydrogen peroxide is better suited for systems with human interaction that most of other propellant combinations. The paper contains selected results of research on green rocket propulsion performed at IoA, in which 98% hydrogen peroxide was used as oxidizer and monopropellant. Three types of rocket engines: monopropellant, liquid bipropellant and hybrid have been investigated and are still being developed.

Opis:
In the article, an aerodynamic interference between pusher propeller slipstream and the airframe of the aircraft powered by it has been presented, based on a literature study. A pusher propeller is one of popular types of the airplane propulsion. It is applied mainly in light sport aircrafts, in the UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles), unorthodox vehicles, like compound helicopters, canard and joined wing aircrafts etc. The main advantage of pusher propeller is that the engine with the pusher propeller does not affect the visibility from the cockpit and allows placing an electronic equipment in the front part of the UAV’s fuselage. Furthermore, reduced cabin noise and increase in stability due to acting normal force aft of the centre of gravity are other benefits of this configuration. The pusher propeller impact on the airframe, especially on the wing, is qualitatively different from the tractor configuration. Main differences between both propulsions has been discussed, as well as aerodynamic benefits of the pusher propeller – like reduction of separated flow area and extending area of laminar boundary layer. However, an application of pusher propeller may have also negative impact, especially lower performance than tractor propeller.
