Opis:
The paper presents preliminary results of testing the resistance to motion of pistons coated with a layer of carbon nanotubes (CNTs). A significant part of this paper was devoted to the problems of putting a layer of nanotubes on the surface of an aluminum alloy. Obtaining a layer of nanotubes of a very narrow margin of tolerance was a difficult technological problem to overcome. A standard process of growing a layer of nanotubes leads to a corrosion damage of the side surface of pistons; therefore, new technologies were developed allowing for obtaining a permanent layer of nanotubes less than 5 microns thick. Pistons whose side surfaces were coated with a layer of nanotubes were mounted to an engine with an external drive, and then measurements of the moment of momentary resistance to motion were performed, which enables capturing these phases of the engine work cycles in which the layer of nanotubes gives the best results. At present, long-term research is being carried out in order to determine the degree of the risk of exfoliation of the layer of nanotubes under the conditions of large mechanical and thermal loads. The special nanotechnology method cold nanosphere lithography has been invested to control the structural properties sand growth of multiwalled carbon nanotubes. The preliminary analysis of dismantled pistons revealed that nanotubes layers were partially worn off at the peaks of micro roughness but in the valleys, the nanotubes accurately adhered to the piston lateral surface.

Opis:
The subject of the article concerns the issues associated with thermal degradation of aviation fuels under high temperature conditions. Due to the intensive development towards increasingly higher thermal loads for both, turbine aviation engines, as well as the used fuels, the issue of thermal stability of the fuel itself is extremely important. In aviation, the fuel, apart from direct participation in energy generation during the combustion process of a fuel-air mixture, also takes part in the heat transfer in many aircraft systems. As a result, requirements in terms of the fuel’s thermal potential are increasingly higher. The standard method for determining the thermal stability of fuel executed on a JFTOT device proves to be insufficient in the context of the appearing issues in current operation. The article presents a non-standard approach to the assessment of aviation fuel thermal degradation with the use of a specialist test rig. The authors believe that the presented methodology and the measurement capabilities of the test rig are valuable supplementary material for the standardized thermal stability test. It allows more thoroughly understanding the phenomena undergoing in the fuel impacted by high temperatures. The article has been prepared within the research project no. 2011/01/D/ST8/06567 funded by the National Science Centre in Poland.

A new approach is needed to test particle filters for retrofitting Diesel engines. Considering the toxicity of the particles as also the physical and chemical attributes of particle filters, the optimal scheme is to test the components themselves independent of the deployment. That scheme ensures the highest effectiveness with least effort. It also enables evaluation of worst-case situations and assesses the hazards of secondary emissions. The Swiss standard SNR 277 205, which mandates the VERT test procedure, is a first step in that direction. Occupational health specialists have studied the toxicity of ultraflne particles for more than 100 years. Extremely toxic are the particles intruding into the lung. Larger particles, which are always naturally present, are intercepted in the upper respiratory paths. The body then expels these larger particles rapidly via the mucus and cilia. The new manmade particles less-than l mi m, however massively intrude into the fine pulmonary alveoli, which do not have the cleansing mechanism. The targeted efficiencies for evaluating modern filters are evident from the progress achieved. Many filters have filtration rates exceeding 99.9%, albeit the directives [4] only require 97%.

That scheme ensures the highest effectiveness with least effort. It also enables evaluation of worst-case situations and assesses the hazards of secondary emissions. The Swiss standard SNR 277 205, which mandates the VERT test procedure, is a first step in that direction. The solution is derived from the physics of the filter media. The filtration of fine particles essentially depends on the particle size and the space velocity. The attributes of the emitting engine are only insignificantly relevant. Hence the physics and chemistry of particle filters can be investigated independent of the engine and its deployment duty. This concept facilitates a very thorough investigation of the size-dependent filtration, aging susceptibility, secondary emissions and extreme situations. Filter systems, which pass this detailed test, perform equally well in every retrofit configuration. This filter test concept was implemented 1998 in the VERT project and is successful for assessing retrofltting [4]. VERT approved fllter systems are already deployed in the Low Emission Zones of Europe, North and South America.

Opis:
The work presents the traffic safety issue related to a use of the road protective barriers. It describes a purpose and tasks that should be fulfilled by the safety system. Conditions of crash tests and their evaluation according to the requirements of the existing standard documents are also presented. The purpose of the work was to evaluate the influence of applied barrier type on the car collision process. A barrier composed of the segments that can move on the ground due to the impact force and a barrier fixed to the road surface were assumed for the model tests. The modelling was carried out by means of the LS-DYNA sofrware, using the finite element method. The tests were performed for two types of cars, mass of 900 kg and 1500 kg. The work includes the numerical test results, deformations of car bodies and barrier displacement. Examples of velocities and acceleration courses of selected vehicle elements and the ASI index, calculated on their basis, used for evaluation of the passenger danger level were also presented. Obtained results indicate a significant influence of the barrier installation method (joint with the road) on the collision process course and dynamic loads affecting the car passengers. They also indicate directions of safety improvement.

Opis:
This paper is devoted to describing of method of decreasing of vibration load level on tractor operator’s working place by means of using of vibrations dynamic dampers in cabin suspension (on other words – dynamic absorbers of dynamic vibroisolators). Standard cabin vibroisolators of tractors DT and VT series include monolith rubber block and have limited capabilities to change its elastic parameters adaptively during impact of vertical and lateral vibration loads with various frequencies. Elastic-damping properties of these vibroisolators does not allow to provide comfortable conditions for operator work because their abilities of vibration damping are not enough especially at low-frequency vibrations. Dynamic vibration dampers installed in cabin suspension were proposed by authors for decreasing of vibration load level on operator workplace. These dampers include additional masses connected to main mass due to elastic-damping elements. Several variants of dynamic vibroisolators schemes were proposed by authors. These schemes differ in quantity of additional masses (one, two or three) and type of connection between additional masses and main mass due elastic-damping elements (parallel or in series). Three-dimensional model of caterpillar chassis, suspension, engine, cabin and operator’s seat of tractor was created in software “Universal mechanism” for performing of computational research. On this model, researches of vibration of sprung mass were made for tractor motion with and without hook load at 3rd and 7th gears on smooth surface and on testing areas with single, periodic and random bumps. Research results indicate undoubtedly best vibroprotective properties of cabin’s suspensions with dynamic vibroisolators.

Opis:
The primary purpose of this paper was to analyse the methods and lateral stability assignment criterions of articulated wheeled tool-carriers like loaders or handlers. The lateral stability is a very important factor from moving through rough terrain point of view. Nowadays the most popular methods of stability verification are those with rollover tilting table. These tests are pretty simple and cheap, but they don't take into consideration the influence of suspension dynamics on vehicle stability. Moreover, both the requirements as well as research procedures don't take account of articulated constructions character. In case of articulated vehicles this problem is quite complicate, because manoeuvring and turning are relevant to the lateral stability. The conclusion drawn from these analyses is that applied tests are not usually performed in the most unfavourably position of the machine and the results of various tests are not entirely comparable. Moreover, based on these analyses the authors present a new proposition for high terrain mobility classification from the lateral stability point of view. Low stability issues used solutions, where transverse stability is not a priority, and accepted mass distribution, due with obtainment of the highest lifting capacity at which the machine realizes formal requirements of the safety.
Istnieje zatem konieczność doprecyzowania metod badania stateczności poprzecznej w stosunku do przegubowych nośników osprzętu.
