Opis:
How are concepts such as ethnic identity, acculturation and cultural orientation being perceived by a child? What is the process of identity construction in early preschool age? How is children’s wellbeing affected by parents’ desire to expose them to a certain culture, other than the one the children were born into? How natural is learning a foreign language for children, given a multiethnic space characterized by adversity and disparities such as “them”- -“us”? And what are the potential outcomes of the phenomena in question? These are a few questions that the current study refl ectively followed up upon by using a qualitative research design and data triangulation in order to increase its validity. The SDQ Questionnaire used to study the children’s wellbeing, the semi-structured “in-depth” interviews conducted on the main early preschool identity builders in the Cristian community and the participative observation indicated the children were proud to be part of the German department group. They did not undergo a brutal process of affi liation to the Saxon ethnicity due to the educators’ various compromises, and their wellbeing didn’t seem to be affected at the SDQ administration stage. However, learning German proved to be a diffi cult process and the two potential outcomes included hitting the language barrier or resuming adaptation to the native ethnic code. This study highlights the impact of the cultural code on the early identity foundation.

Opis:
The article presents the results of theoretical analysis and empirical investigation of the relationship between self-attitude and attitude towards other people, including representatives of other nationalities. Self-attitude is viwed as a stable, emotionally charged of your own self. The interdependance of self-attitude indicators with the features of ethnic tolerance and the character of other individuals' attitude in complicated situations has been researched. Individuals with different self-image are shown to perceive their opponents just as they perceive their own personality. Perception and emotional attitude both to their own ethnic group and other ethnicities is closely related to the attitude of the individual to himself, and common factors in predisposition to criticism and condescension towards themselves and others.

cultural identity components, ethnic labels, children's cultural awareness
Opis:
Aim. The purpose of this research is to capture the shift between two cultural identities, for a group of Romanian children enrolled in a German teaching preschool class, and to closely analyze the impact on cultural identity components. Methods. In this study 27 children, aged 3 to 6, were involved, together with their parents and two teachers. During one year of investigation, they were analyzed using participative observation, focus groups and in-depth interviews conducted in a public preschool. Results. The analysis reveals witch cultural identity components of this children undergo transformation, in what amount and with what impact considering the school environment and the influence of both parents and teachers. For this research, the exploration of cultural identity components was done under the conceptualization proposed by Ching Wan and Pony Yuen-Ga Chew (2013), namely: cultural knowledge, categorization and social relationships (the self-expressed in attitudes and behaviors). Conclusions. Although a positive image emerges for the German culture as a future culture of belonging, we notice the children's effort to achieve the cultural shift desired by their parents and an emotional subtle discharge in their free play and verbalized mental models. The different vision of parents and teachers over education strengthens some components of cultural identity by broadening the autonomy-shame ambitus that increases the level of self-confidence, which receives a distinct German cultural mark.
