Opis:
Knowledge is the centerpiece in theories on firm's internationalization, however the understanding of how internationalization knowledge is acquired, retained, transformed and transferred has developed significantly over the past decades. This paper aims at presenting the results of selected literature review on diverse approaches to the role of knowledge in the process of internationalization of companies. Both the sequential perspective and the international new venture approach are taken into account. Significant differences in the way specific knowledge aspects are emphasized in each approach, as well as their role in the process of internationalization, are presented. A more holistic, knowledge-based conceptualization of internationalization, that integrates dominant, yet conflicting perspectives in the literature is called upon, aiming to facilitate future research progress in this area.

Opis:
The article presents the review of existing research on the role of psychic distance in the process of companies internationalization (both secondary and primary). The main attention was dedicated to the measurement of this phenomenon. The concept of psychic distance was compared to cultural distance, they are used interchangeably in the article. The objective of the paper was also to discuss the conceptual and methodological properties of psychic (cultural) distance: the illusion of symmetry, stability, linearity, causality, discordance, as well as the assumption of corporate and spatial homogeneity and the assumption of equivalence. The last part of the article is dedicated to the examples of research examining the role of psychic (cultural) distance in decisions of: choosing market entry mode (export versus foreign direct investment; acquisitions versus green field investment), choosing the level of strategy adaptation to local market conditions and decisions concerning other fields of international business.

Opis:
The internationalization of Polish companies via equity entry modes is still a phenomenon limited in scope, especially when compared to that occurring in developed countries, however showing a clear upward trend. Within this research framework the following paper presents the results of a qualitative study devoted to the geographical patterns of foreign expansion of Polish companies. The theoretical analysis, based on the eclectic (OLI) paradigm of international production, the internationalization process model and the Strategy Tripod, is focused simultaneously on the determinants of location choice related to host country and firm characteristics. Case study results indicate that host country choice is related to the investment motives. Moreover, the role of location choice criteria depends on the host country level of development.
