Opis:
In the light of climate change, it is important to acquire the information on the diversity of flora in order to ensure rational use of steppe rangelands. The present study aimed at diagnosing the botanical and the taxonomic diversity of the arid steppe plant communities in South East of Algeria. A total of 216 phytoecological sampling, were collected in three sites and one sample for each month during 2017 and 2018. The vegetation was analyzed using various species diversity parameters (abundance, species richness, life forms, alpha and beta diversity indices and disturbance index). Results show that 985 plant individuals were classified into 27 species, 27 genera and 14 families, with predominance of Chenopodiaceae and Asteraceae in the arid steppe of El-Haouch, and remarkable dominance of Chamaephytic and Therophytic plants in different phytoecological groups. The state of vegetation degradation in a susceptible environment on Algeria’s rangeland in the South East which is confirmed by the low values of Shannon, Jaccard indices and the values of disturbance index ranged between 50 and 85.71%. The alpha diversity parameters of the different phytoecological groups have low values, which reflect a more fragile homogeneous ecosystem, unfavorable life conditions and the absence of certain species of high pastoral value.

Opis:
The leachate from landfill constitutes high pollutant. The high pollutant content impacts the public and ecosystem health surrounding the landfill site. Therefore, it is essential to process the leachate first before its disposal to water body. Landfill leachate processing can be carried out using three processes, i.e., physical-chemical, biological, and a combination of those. A constructed wetland is currently considered as an environmentally friendly technology to tackle water pollution and leachate. Another advantage of a constructed wetland is the low operational cost and natural maintenance, so it can be a solution related to the cost, technical, and operating system problems of conventional processing. This article aimed to discover the characteristic differences of landfill leachate, constructed wetland installation position, and types of plants used in the constructed wetland. This article was written using the literature reviews from experimental studies on water processing with the same parameter for leachate and leachate processing. The literature review result shows that landfill leachate processing depends on different leachate characteristics. The toxic quality of landfill leachate was found through a toxicity test. Leachate treated by the physical-chemical process contains toxic and non-biodegradable organic substances. Hence, the physical-chemical methods should be applied at the beginning of the process and coupled with the biological method at the end of the process to improve the treatment quality. A constructed wetland with diverse plants was found to be more effective in biomass distribution, less prone to seasonal variations, and had a more diverse microbe population than the constructed wetland with a single plant.

Opis:
University campuses, as important elements of urban greenery, are related with a positive impact on student health and well-being. They provide unique possibilities for estimating biodiversity change. This study focused on the biodiversity in the Campus. The study aimed at: assessing the plant biodiversity occurring in the park; assessing the representation of native species and determining the frequency at which invasive species occur; as well as recommending an adaptation of the park management. The Park was sub-divided into biotopes and a phytocoenological relevé was recorded. Park projects create biodiversity islands that may contribute to improve urban space. A species composition that is close to natural vegetation creates a space for native species, which thus better adapt to living in urban conditions. Localities created by humans, which imitate natural ecosystems, increase the biodiversity and are valuable natural islands in cities. The semi-natural phytocoenoses however, do not resist the occurrence of invasive plant species. Regarding the small size of the studied park, manual elimination or cutting of invasive plant species is sufficient.

Opis:
Grasses have a considerable potential for the adaptation to various, often extreme, habitat conditions. The aim of the work was to present the vegetation diversity of the coal-mine spoil heaps with the dominant share of grasses and to identify the main factors responsible for this diversity in the aspect of post-industrial land reclamation. The communities differ in reference to the species preferences to light, moisture, soil fertility and reaction, which is reflected in the wide variety of microhabitats in the area. It was shown that the increase in the abundance of certain grass species, including Calamagrostis epigejos, Festuca rubra, Festuca arundinacea, Phragmites australis, has a significant negative impact on the species richness, species diversity and the uniformity of distribution of species of the plant community. Preliminary analyses revealed that on post-mining waste, the biomass production of the dominant species is negatively correlated with biodiversity. The knowledge about the biology and ecology of grass species, as well as on the assembly rules may be used in the reclamation of degraded areas. Gaining the knowledge about the vegetation diversity of the coal-mine spoil heaps with the dominant share of grasses can be useful in planning the reclamation works, taking into account natural processes, which leads to the creation of a permanent vegetation cover at a given site, protecting it against water or wind erosion. In the future these areas may provide a number of important ecosystem services.
