Opis:
The urbanisation and suburbanisation processes are considered to have a detrimental impact on the environment. Increasing the share of the impervious surfaces is one of their main negative effects, particularly in and near the cities, affecting the water relations of basins. It also results in new catchment boundaries formation and, in many cases, changes in the physiographic parameters affecting the accuracy of hydrological and hydraulic calculations of small suburban catchments. This study is an attempt to delimit the catchment boundaries located in the suburban area of Poznań city, Poland, in three variants: according to the Raster Hydrographical Map of Poland and Raster Topographical Map of Poland, digital elevation model, and rainwater sewage system. The analyses were conducted with ArcGIS software, and the results were additionally verified with geodesic measurements on site. This work focuses mainly on the impact of anthropogenic pressure on the catchment shape and the course of its boundaries. The analyses were conducted on the Rów WB stream catchment located in the Skórzewo village, Dopiewo municipality, which stands out within the Poznań Metropolitan Area as the area where the suburbanisation process is the most intensified. This study proved that the agrotechnical and drainage works performed in undeveloped, agricultural areas affected catchment shape and size as much as suburbanisation itself. According to the authors, the suburban catchment boundaries should be regularly updated due to the intensity of the new investments development and additionally verified on site.

Opis:
The aim of the article is to analyse the problem of spatial planning in the Wrocław district, especially regarding the evaluation of the purpose of land in municipal studies of the conditions and directions of spatial development. The analysis of purpose is significant with respect to its impact on real estate value and the forming of the relation between supply and demand on the market. The purpose of land designated for various types of development and construction is decided by local administration and municipal councils. This, however, does not ensure adherence to principles of sustainable development, as showcased by summing up the methods of land allocation in the district. It has been determined that according to the status for the end of 2012, 34% of land in the Wrocław district has been developed for housing, 26% for services and 18% for economic activity.

Opis:
The article studies the problem of assessing the quality of atmospheric air in the green areas of the metropolis. The aim of the work is to compare the data obtained by the biomonitoring method with information from unified state environmental monitoring system (USEMS). The sample object of the study is a Udelny park located in the Primorsky district of the city of St. Petersburg. The objectives of the study include the analysis of atmospheric pollution of the Udelny Park by the method of bioindication, comparison of the data obtained with the general telephone indicators, as well as with information from the nearest USEMS posts. When studying the object, the method of V.M. Zakharov was used to study the fluctuating asymmetry of the leaf plates of the hanging birch (Betula pendula Roth.). The site between Udelny Ave., the Vyborg railway line, Testers Ave. and Kolomyazhsky Ave. with an approximate area of 18 hectares was chosen as a model site. The assessment was carried out on 12 pickets, at each 100 samples of leaf plates were taken in total. For comparison, data were obtained from a stationary observation post for the state of atmospheric air pollution, information on the content of pollutants in the air of the Primorsky district. The study found that the quality of atmospheric air in the territory is low. In part of the pickets, the value of the fluctuating asymmetry index was more than 0.054, which corresponds to the V score (critical pollution). These data are generally correlated with information about air pollution in St. Petersburg. Nevertheless, the state of the environment is assessed by the chosen method more critically. This is due to the fact that the biomonitoring method studies pollution from the point of view of direct impact on the ecosystem, taking into account, among other things, the cumulative effect. The result makes us to conclude that it is more correct to use an integrated approach, combining both methods, to assess the stability of urban ecosystems and the quality of the environment in them. It is important to separate information about the quality of the atmosphere in green areas from general data on residential areas.

Opis:
Environmental order is one of sustainability aspects. Respect for environment, rational management of its resources and protection of biological diversity are only some of the rules that should be followed in order to preserve ecological balance. The paper is aimed to show evaluation of environmental order level in 7 districts included in Krakow Metropolitan Area (in polish: krakowski obszar metrolitalny – KOM). Such evaluations together with analyses of changes of environmental order factors (and also the remaining orders which are components of sustainability) enable to monitor effects of council unit’s activities. Suggested analysis was performed on the basis of 18 factors of environmental order. The data were taken from the Local Data Bank [in Polish: Bank Danych Lokalnych (BDL)] and they concern 2014. The evaluation was carried out by classifying examined units to three types – with best average and worst preserved environmental order. This rating was made by means of two taxonomic methods – Wroclaw taxonomy and Thorndike’s method. It was stated in the research that most districts do well with preserving environmental order. However, there are units where environmental balance is unsettled. They should take immediate actions in order to improve this situation. Collective activities within cooperation of KOM districts could also give measurable improvement and result in improving balance of the whole region’s development.
